Every Geek Home Needs...

A Star Trek-themed cat tree:

Set phasers to "love me."
(More images and another design over on Bit Rebel, found via @amy_geek)

Which will look great next to your....

KLINGON COFFEE TABLE!!

Yes, it lights up, and it actually looks fabulous in the room.

It was made by Nick Woodrow, who says he's taking orders - for an undisclosed price.
(If you have to ask...)

More info and video on Gizmodo. (found via @GirlsAreGeeks)

And finally, for a little wall art, how about some Portal 2 Cave Johnson cross stitch?

Finally! A reason to return to my cross-stitching roots!

You can snag the .pdf pattern for less than $4 here. (found via @kiala)

Oh, and speaking of Portal, there's another excellent fan film making the rounds - but I actually like the first one I featured with the cake better. Is that bad?

And they say Twitter is a waste of time. Ha!

So, what geeky greatness is wasting YOUR time today, guys?

  3. I know someone that would have that cat tree in their house faster than you can say "Beam me up, Scotty"

  4. I'm a cross stitcher that has been off work sick...and haven't been able to concentrate on my current, difficult projects.

I'm also a Portal fan, so I'm pretty sure I'm out $4. I did this one a while ago, for a quick stitch, and it looks fantastic: Best Friends Forever

  5. Thank you, Jen. My husband has requested that I make that cross-stitch for him, but replace Cave Johnson with his name. I am agreeing to his demands : D

BTW, I had a dream the other night that I was setting up a cakewrecks book signing. There was lots of tables and chairs and punch to set up. There were also three dead racoons in the kitchen, coming from a secret hiding place and later I got stung by hundreds of wasps. And in the end I wasn't even brave enough to come up to you for a photo. Maybe next dream...

  6. SO much geekery today. For one, Jen, Pogo is on tour! I found out they're in my area in October, I really want to go. They are in Florida for a few dates, but I don't know how close to Orlando.

For classic literature fans, they have awesome prints at <a href="http://www.postertext.com>www.postertext.com</a> They are prints that are designed using the text of the book they are referencing.

  8. My hubby and I are considering adopting a kitten. If we do, I want one of those Klingon scratching posts. It would be perfect in our living room!

  9. Thanks for this post. I've had an incredibly rotten day and this finally broke the curse. Wondering if I can crossstitch with only one good hand. Thanks.

  11. That cat tree is EPIC. And it reminds me, saw a license plate in the parking lot at the grocery store on Monday: 1701D. FREAKING AWESOME.

StumbleUpon has become my bane these past few days. This is the first thing that came up for me on it today. Enjoy!

  12. Working on my Metal Gear Solid-themed apartment is taking all the room in the geek part of my brain (as if I have more parts to my brain, really). I love your posts, lotsa inspiration!

  13. Awesome! And that reminds me; a couple of weeks ago we were at a farmers'/artisans' market and my kids spotted a "Spock monkey", which was great just because it was great, but also because it was evidence that we are indeed raising our children right!

  14. Is it scary that I can look at the cross stitch and make a pattern myself >.> sometimes I think my mind works strangely.

  15. I'm thinking about taking up felt-making so I can make my own one of these:

Was that supposed to trigger the sound of a gasping and cheering audience and the interstitial Showcase Showdown music from The Price Is Right? Because that's what it did!

"And this Geektastic Home Package can be yours...IF the Price is Right!"

  21. Jen, I had no idea you were such a Community fan! I have no idea why more people aren't watching such an awesome show.

I also really love the Portal 2 cross stitch. Pretty awesome.

  22. Speaking of Portal2....have you seen the Gary Hudson project? The custom Portal 2 level for Gary to ask Christine to marry him?. AWESOME

  23. Oh, I MUST have a cat tree like that! Who cares if my cat would ever use it? It would be for ME to geek out over!

  24. Thank you, Emma B, for sharing that. It made me smile!

  25. LOVE that embroidery pattern. That's awesome. It's not your grandma's rant. That cat tree. Whatever. My dog is happy with a fricking STICK from the filthy ground. So there. ;)

  28. @Jen again: Don't worry, they didn't bother you at all. Assume all dead animals and terrible insects will follow me. Unless you come to Houston, then I'll make them stay with my husband so I can come meet you for reals.

  29. I need that cat tree in my house, now!

@Kittie - I think most of us can cheat and figure out other people's patterns. It is after all, a simple grid system. I just think it's kind of bad form. A lot of them pattern makers are assuming we'll use (for lack of a better phrase) the honor system.

  30. I liked the first Portal fan vid better, too! The cake was the best part!
