The 20 Punniest Cosplays of Dragon Con 2017

You guys know I love a good pun, and when you combine it with cosplay I'm pretty much in nerd heaven. Last year I featured the 10 punniest cosplays I could find at Dragon Con, and it was so much fun I decided to do it again - only this time I enlisted the help of the FB group Dragon Con Cosplayers to help me track down a bunch more!

So without further ado and in no particular order, let the groans of pained laughter... BEGIN.

Doctor Doom:
Somehow I don't think he'll be offering us a Jelly Baby.

(Update: Even better name per the comments: Doctor Whom. Bahaha!)

Taco Belle:

Her rose is made of hot sauce packets!

And someone else caught her with the "Beast":

John Xena:

Bud Light Year:

To Insobriety... AND BEYOND! :D

Er, and before you ask: yes, he WAS bleeding all over himself, but didn't realize it. (He'd cut his thumb.) Aluminum can costumes are no joke, gang! (I mean, THIS one was... )

Moulin Rogue One:

Cosplayers: Cressie Teague Lewis, Kathy Kaydee Photo: David Skirmont

Hey, I've done it. You've done it. We've all misspelled "Rogue" as "Rouge" - and that's why this is SO PERFECT.

Southern Belle:

Cosplayer: Ginny Loveday

Yes! I can't believe I've never seen this done before!

Doctor Honey-Who & The Meeping Angel

DON'T MEEP.

Lil' Jon Snow & Jon Snow White:

I am so happy these two found each other,

This next one reminds me of the "Ruth Vader Ginsberg" from last year:

The Supreme Court Justice League:

Photos & Batgirl cosplayer: Morgan A. McLaughlin McFarland

LOVE.

G.I. Joe Dirt:

Cosplayer: Brian Greer

Ash Wednesday:

 Cosplayer: Chrissy Gross

Talk about the coolest mashup name ever: that's Wednesday Addams meets Ash vs Evil Dead.
PLUS she has the smudge on her forehead Catholics wear for Ash Wednesday!

Darth Vol:

I admit it, I had to ask a Sports person to explain this. Apparently the team the Tennessee Volunteers refer to themselves as Vols?

Reylsa & Hanna Solo - plus BB-Olaf & Kylo Sven:

Ok, so the names are a mouthful, but it's all worth it for "Kylo Sven." LOOK AT HIS LITTLE MASK! Bahaha!

Iron Maiden:

Another pun that works on so many levels, I think it just might be my favorite of the bunch.

Even better? Apparently the cosplayer - already dressing as a handmaid - looked at her boyfriend's Iron Man costume in the hotel room and this just clicked for a last minute mashup!

The Grateful Deadpool:

 Cosplayer: Seth McCall

Groovy.

Ric Flair:

Cosplayer: James Brazee  Photo: Tara Schile

I got the TGI Friday's part, but I had to Google the rest: there's a wrestler named Ric Flair.  'Nuff said.

(Some commenters are pointing out this is more of an Office Space reference than Fridays - so l'll leave that up to you guys. :))

Jay & Silent Hog:

Cosplayers: FTom Larrison as Jay-Steady

Diana Prince:

Cosplayer: Maya Garner,  Photo: Karen Kanne Ngowe

The artist formerly known as Wonder Woman is KILLIN' IT with that dove blouse, y'all. And the shoes! And the sparkly tights! Swooooon.

Bruce Banana-er:

Cosplayer: Maya Ahuja

And as another commenter pointed out, could that be... Deadpeel?

Admit it: you laughed.

And finally, I'll leave you with this mental image, since sadly I don't have a photo:

OK, peeps, your turn: what did I miss? If you saw an epic pun costume at this year's Dragon Con, tell me in the comments! Better yet, link to a photo so I can add it to this post!

  2. Aack! Dianna Prince! That costume is perfection and she is channeling Prince.
So many great mash-ups, but that's my favorite.

  3. The first one. The better name: Doctor Whom.

    1. Great minds. This is what I came to suggest. :)

  4. Diana Prince is my definite favorite. I will say that my brother did Bud Light Year a couple years ago for a Halloween party and avoided the bodily harm by gluing the cans to just his "wings."

  6. Pretty sure that the Ric Flair guy is spoofing the movie Office Space with his flair, not TGI Friday's.

  7. Yeah Ric Flair is the wrestler and about the movie Office Space. If you haven't seen it, you should. :)

  8. The ash Wednesday has one level you missed in the description. I believe the smudge on her forehead is not part of the Wednesday Adams costume, but is a mark that Catholics (and other Christians) get on their foreheads on Ash Wednesday. So it's literally Ash Wednesday as well :)

  12. Bahaha! These are great! I can't decide which one I like best Diana Prince or Kylo Sven. :D

  13. ...am I overthinking it, or is Bruce Bananner's accomplice therefore Deadpeel?

  14. There was another Taco Belle that was more subtle -- she had tomatoes. That Taco Belle was great, but the Chihuahua Beast takes it to the next level.

  15. Diana Prince for the WIN! Somebody hire that woman and give her a medal!

  16. We saw Diana Prince in the Hyatt lobby (after having seen the costume on Twitter earlier) and ran up to her squealing *very* loudly about how awesome she was. A lot of thought went into that costume!

  17. I think these guys are Be Bop and Rock Steady from TMNT dresses up as Jay and Slient Bob. Which is awesome!! I Love Love Love Punny costumes. One of my favorite posts!

  18. Last year I saw a Dr. Harley Quinn, Medicine Woman. I about died.

  19. Kylo Sven!!! That's the best. <3 I have no idea how people come up with these ideas, but I adore them.

  20. I think I like these better than regular cosplay. I'm partial to all things Star Wars so I love Reynosa and Hanna Solo and Moulin Rogue One. The best though is Taco Belle with the chihuahua Beast.

  21. These were really fun, thank you for sharing! I think my favorites were Taco Belle (and the chihuahua beast!) and Ash Wednesday. So many fun layers in that last one!

(as an aside, when I viewed this post on my phone, I kept getting a carmax add that covered up parts of the post without a way to close the add.)

  24. I'm Ruth Batman Ginsburg. The other two coplayers in the pictures are Elizabeth Finn (Sonia Supermayor) and Kash Ashley (Wonder Kagan).

  25. Jen, would it be possible to include a warning above any pictures with blood in them, for those of us who don't handle seeing blood well? I know it doesn't come up often but it would be much appreciated.
