Jen's Gems: An Engagement Snitch, Jason Momoa, & Free Bat Plushy Patterns!

Ooh, so many fabulous gems crossed my feeds last week, you guys. BUCKLE UP.

First, Tyson Bullock dressed up as Jason Momoa's "signature pint of Guinness glass" and got the best. celebrity photo. EVER:

How hard are you grinning right now?? I'm not even a huge Momoa fan, but I am friggin' DELIGHTED.

Tyson shared that in the RPF's group, btw, which you should totally follow on Facebook for more awesome cosplay goodies.

Freeman Design just made THE most beautiful Snitch necklace - plus it has a secret:

That tiny Nimbus 2000 is really a key, and hidden inside the snitch?

An engagement ring. EEEEE! Go see more more pictures and read all the details here.

For you DizGeeks who enjoy the occasional deep dive into Disney history, Theme Park Tourist posted another great long read, this time on Captain EO.
There are some great nuggets in here, like the alternate story lines they *didn't* film, the actress who backed out of being the Supreme Leader (and why), and lots more. Read all about it here.

Have you heard of Choly Knight of Sew Desu Ne?  I just started following her on FB, and she makes the cutest geeky sewing patterns - plush toys, accessories, bags - and then gives some of them away for free on her website.  Check it out, this is all in her free pattern section:

SO MANY GOODIES. You guys know I'm terrible at sewing, but that bat plush makes me want to try again. And the Totoro. And the Toothless!

Knight has even more patterns at her Etsy shop that you can buy, plus completed plushes if you're lazy/bad at sewing. (There's a plush griffin! Squee!)

Last week some of you were concerned about the artist Walmazan's latest shirt design, since it's the same concept as my Wonder Womb plush:

Turns out it this was just a crazy random happenstance, though; he'd never seen mine, and was absolutely NOT copying. Still, Walmazan felt so bad about it he immediately pulled the art, and it took me a while to convince him to go ahead, because c'mon, this shirt is hilarious.

So just to be clear: Walmazan and I have nothing but squishy warm thoughts for each other (in a purely platonic way), and if you dig this design you should go grab the shirt over on Amazon. Or at least follow Walmazan on FB, because he also designed one of John's all-time favorite shirts - and I bet you can guess which one it is from W's Facebook header. :D

While we're talking Wonder-full things, remember how I featured that Wonder Woman toy sword re-paint last month? Well the woman behind it, Nerfenstein Blaster Mods & Props, shared this photo of some costumes she made for her grandkids - and it's going to make you SO HAPPY:

Read the caption. AND REJOICE.  Seriously, can we count the number of ways this is awesome? Starting with the fact that I had no idea Nerfenstein was old enough to be a grandmother? And how she's encouraging The Next Generation to love what they love? Holy hope for the future, Batman!

And finally, John's contribution this week is my new favorite .gif:

Hope you guys have an awesome week!

  1. I felt like I had seen the Wonder Womb concept before you (Jen) posted it but I wasn't sure where. I think that's a case of lots of people having the same idea at once, independent of each other - which does happen.

  4. I don't know how John found that gif but it possibly the greatest gif in the history of the Internet.

  5. I totally used that tutorial to paint a Wonder Woman sword for a convention last weekend. I took an old bridesmaids dress that was pretty close and everyone was like "Oh you look pretty..." and then I turned around to show the sword in the back! That was much more fun!

  6. As if I needed more crafting projects to add to the list.....there's an Evee pattern that is begging to become my boyfriend's next dice bag.

  7. Thanks for finding that fantastic Captain EO article! I remember seeing it in 1986 when it opened. 56 viewings later, it's still one of my all-time favorite Disney attractions.

  9. I don't sew, but if you knit or crochet, Ravelry is just full of geeky goodness.

  11. Wow! My engagement ring also came in a snitch, but this one is way more fancy. I think I come out on top though because mine came in a handmade TARDIS, which was inside a handmade wooden box with a custom "One Ring" inscription!

  12. I have seen that sewing site before, but thanks for reminding me! I really would love to make that Sting sometime, since I use "Hobbit" as my older boy's internet alias. :)

  14. SewDesuNe just added a steampunk robot pattern! https://www.etsy.com/listing/510054018/robot-steampunk-plush-sewing-pattern-pdf
Also, it's worth noting that her patterns are available for commercial use. So you can sell your plushies at cons, craft shows, etc, etc, etc. :D
