In Which I Embarrass John... AGAIN (Mwah-ha-haaaaa)

I have a photo I've kept on my phone the past few weeks that makes me smile - something I haven't shared anywhere yet.

But first, a quick back story:

A week or two before Christmas John came home in THE worst mood. He'd been out running errands all afternoon, and the holiday crowds and traffic and overall surliness of person in general had turned my sweet teddy bear of a man into one grumpy grizzly. I listened in horror as he told me about the guy who nearly ran him off the road, the lady who stole his parking space, the multiple rude cashiers, and the shopper who shoved him out of the way before demanding an apology. John's the guy who compliments every employee he meets and jokes with strangers at every turn, but this day had officially beaten all the love of humanity out of him.

So John stomped off to do some laundry, and I left him alone to go back to work in my office.

A few hours later I emerged to grab something out of the bedroom, and on the way passed John whistling merrily in the kitchen. I smiled to myself, opened the bedroom door, and saw this:

I don't know how he does it, you guys. I don't know how John so quickly turns all that frustration and anger into gratitude and love - but this picture reminds to try a little harder to use my grumpy days for good.

(It also reminds me we can write messages in the fuzzy blanket, which is nice to know for the future. ::evil grin::)

I don't need any more stuffed animals.

I don't need any more stuffed animals.

I don't.

So thank goodness this is technically a pillow.

  1. OMG the seal pillow!! I just, as a 43-year-old woman, got the big Melissa and Doug narwhal for Christmas and apparently now I need a seal pillow. LOL

    2. I'm also 43 and had to talk myself out of a giant stuffed unicorn that I found on Black Friday. My compromise was to buy it, hug it, and immediately donate it to Toys for Tots.

    4. My workplace (children's room in a public library) owns the seal pillow. It is soft and silky and PERFECT for throwing at people. The face is eerily photorealistic, in my opinion. A+ would throw at boss again.

  3. John seems like such a gem. But it's also good to know he has mad moments. 😉

  4. Last year i learned that one of the best ways to get out of a bad mood whether anger or even depression is by doing something for someone else. It gets you out of your head and it truly feels good to make others smile. Seems like john has that down to a science :)

  6. I yell all the damn time and swear like a drunken sailor with Tourette's; this is How the Klingon Do. My Vulcan is much more chill, barely raises his voice (I'm all the time yelling "WHAT?! MUMBLER!!"), and is very dry and droll in insults. So when he does have a messed-up day and freaks out and blows his stack, it's very weird and off-putting, and upsets my entire worldview. I tell him to calm down, which just makes him yell louder; "ME, calm down?! You're the one that's always hollering, can't *I* get mad and go off sometimes?! I'm not ACTUALLY A Vulcan, you know!" Then he plays with our Pug, Mr. Fred T. Lucas, and mellows out like Spock petting a Tribble.

    Your Pal,

    Storm the Klingon

  10. The seal reminds me of my favorite (now retired) website, CuteOverload. They called seals, walruses, etc. "blorp." So, instead of a cute blob, this guy would be cute blorp. Or, we'd ooh and ahh over all the cute blorpiness.
