February Art Roundup: Modern Disney Princesses, Space Tourism Posters, & Mary Poppins!

It's time to round up my favorite new geek art this month!

First up, Anoosha Syed's "modern princesses" went viral this month, and with good reason:

They're SO FUN! (Belle is wearing a TARDIS skirt, you guys.)

Anoosha even wrote little back stories about the princesses' Alternate Universe lives, like how Snow White is a fashion blogger, and Ariel is a marine biologist. You can see the whole set here on Bored Panda, or head over to Anoosha's Etsy shop to buy prints of them individually, or all together!

Another gem that tons of you sent in this month: NASA has a page of gorgeous interstellar travel posters that you can download & print... FOR FREE.

And when I say "gorgeous," I mean it:

 WOWIE.
And these are just a few of my favorites! I don't see any info on the artist(s) behind these designs, but it looks like they were done in-house just for NASA. Head over to the NASA Jet Propulsion Lab's page to see - and download! - the rest.

UPDATE: Just learned the design firm behind NASA's posters is Invisible Creature. Check out their site for more great products!

I went to a local art a few weeks back and discovered the fantastic graphic styles of EDBOT5000, aka Edmund Dansart. First off, his TMNT series is pure gold:

Plus he has a whole set of Star Wars bounty hunters, which is what first caught my eye:

(Don't even, Greedo; we know who shot first.)

This burlesque dancin' Claptrap made John laugh so hard we had to buy a print:

Plus I picked up a few print sets for the Give-Away Board. This Vader & Kylo reminds me of wood linocuts:

There's so much more where that came from - and lots more fandoms - so go see! Prints at his online shop are only $5, or you can get sets of 2 for $8 - or the whole bounty hunter set of 6 is only $15!  You can also follow EDBOT5000 on Facebook for updates.

Also at that art show, I picked up the CUTEST BB-8 notepad by Radjinja - for only $5.

It's sold out at her online shop right now, but maybe she'll re-stock?

Radjinja (aka Cathy Alameda) also sells these sweet little coin pouches and charms with Lion from Steven Universe:

*squee!*

(I, uh, also bought one of those. WHAT.)

And more charms like this "Iron Ace":

And this Joker & Harley print for $8:

There are plenty more prints, charms, stickers, and buttons at her shop, so be sure to check out the rest!

Loving the rich colors and style of these Hogwarts House postcards by Sushi Studios:

Prints are about $4.50 each, or they're also available as mini-notebooks for only $4.25 each!

Also at the shop, this sweet Hippocampus acrylic necklace:

OooooOOOoooo. Me likey.

Plus these cutie-patootie MLP pins:

It's awesome seeing indie artists putting their work on more products these days! Especially for those of us who are completely out of wall space. ;)

Would you believe artist Heather Dixon made prints of this faaaabulous Mary Poppins... and gave them away FOR FREE last August at Disneyland??

[grabby hands] DO WANT.

Sadly it doesn't look like Heather sells any of her work, but she actually invites readers to print this one out from her blog!

And if you check Heather's DeviantArt gallery, there are more pretties like these:

Ok, now BONUS AWESOMENESS:

It's pretty obvious from Heather's art, blog, profiles, etc., that she LOVES Mary Poppins, and while I was grabbing links for this post I got lost reading her story of how she had dinner with Dick Van Dyke just a few months ago. She illustrates the whole thing with her own drawings, and it. is. AMAZEBALLS. Heather can write, you guys, and it's funny and sweet and fangirly and gosh darn DELIGHTFUL. So go. READ IT.  I guarantee you'll walk away with the biggest grin on your face.

*****
But before you go, be sure to comment below for a chance to win your choice of free art from my Pinterest Give-Away Board!

In addition to one Wild Card Winner, I'll also be picking TWO MORE winners for these:

So if you like either/both of those, be sure to tell me in your comment so I can enter you in those drawings, too. (And don't worry, I'll ship anywhere!) I'll announce my randomly selected winners in my next post.

Happy commenting!

The winner of "Fairy Den" is the Katy with this profile pic:

  127. I'd love to decorate my office with geeky prints, but I feel like I have difficulty finding art from different Fandoms that still "go" together. Especially since the art tends to be pretty colorful. Have you ever considered doing a post about how to decorate with nerd art? I'd love to read it!

    ReplyDelete

    1. I've got a couple theme walls going in my library to corral some of my geek art. I have one wall with 11x17 "propaganda" prints in a checkerboard pattern with smaller 10x10 of varying styles and fandom. Another wall is the space above my computer desk, where I've done a similar set up with 11x14 fictional corporation prints (Stark Industries et al) and some 8x10 ones between. Perhaps setting up some vignettes by theme or fandom or art style would work for you. Hope I helped spark an idea or two for you. :)

    ReplyDelete
  131. I FINALLY FRAMED IT! And it's so awesome even my boyfriend liked it. Then... it turns out I didn't do a great job so it shifted within it's frame and I need to do it better.

    ReplyDelete
  132. The kiddos are hanging over my shoulders admiring all the art, and yelling (in my ear, as if I can't hear them already) "I want that in my room!" and "HOGWARTS!! WHAT!? AND she does my little pony?!" and "Did you see the space stuff?! Can we do my room in all space stuff now?" So I think you've got them hooked now, too... :)

I totally love the Labyrinth worm! Such a great movie...I just re-watched it (for like the 1,000 time) after we lost the great Goblin King. :(

    ReplyDelete
  133. I would repaint my guest room to put the Fairy Den print in. Really dreamy. I needed a bib for all the drooling I did looking at these prints! Thanks!

    ReplyDelete
  134. Ooh ooh, I love the Labyrinth worm. He's actually my favorite character in that movie, which is very high praise. So please add me to the drawing for that one.

    ReplyDelete
  135. That fairy print is stunning! And your Pinterest board is a geeky/nerdy art-lover's dream! The droid half-faces, the Blue Box adventure print, Yoda hanging in there... so many..!
