John Made Us New Epbot Pins, And They Are SO COOL

For years now I've wanted to design some new Epbot pins, so I'd have something new to offer those of you who already have the original:

I thought it'd be especially fun to have the Epbot wearing different cosplays, and to debut a new design every year at Dragon Con.

WELL, since John's been having so much fun making those Epbot ad banners for CW (have you noticed?), he decided to tackle my pin wish-list. AND IT IS GLORIOUS.

John whipped these up in just two days, and is having so much fun he's designing even more as I type this. We worked together on designs and placement (ie I made him tweak a lot of stuff), but the actual Photoshop work is all John.

My favorite is the Ghostbusters one. (I came up with the green slime!)

It turns out the Star Wars font doesn't look very Star Wars-y without any Ss. (Leia seems a little plain, but keep in mind these are TINY buttons - just 1.25 inches across.)

Believe it or not, the Immortan Joe was our first design, and made us laugh WAY more than it should. It's incredibly creepy, and I don't expect many people will want one, but we got our entertainment value out of it. :D Plus I'd like to have a design for each year's biggest movie franchise, and I think Mad Max qualifies.

I'll be making as many of these as I can for DC, but I only have the material for 60 or so. So, may the best con-goers win - or, you know, find me in the crowd and ask for one.

Which reminds me: DC peeps, we're going to have a little Epbot meetup Thursday afternoon/evening from 4-6pm in the Marriot lobby, underneath the Pulse bar overhang. So if you're arriving early for DC, come say hi! I'll have pins, grins, and hugs for those that want them. (Friend me on the DC app to see my schedule and/or message me!)

For you NON-Dragon Con goers, tell me which pins you like best in the comments, and if there's enough demand, maybe I'll stick 'em on Etsy for a few bucks? Yes?

And if you have more costume suggestions, chime in with those, too! (John's working on a full-body Wonder Woman one now, and it's looking positively epic. After that, I'm making him do an Ariel. Because a seashell bra on a robot = WIN.)

UPDATE: John insisted I add Wonder Woman, so you guys can vote on her, too!

  16. These are so cute and shiny. Since you asked for future projects....lol....I'm suggesting a Star Trek Next Gen, My Little Pony, Harry Potter, Figment or Mickey ears. My fav is the Dr Who.
Will these be available for us non con goers via mail/order? I have all from the last set and would love to update my collection.

  20. I so want the mad max one. Although since epbot robot is metal, I kinda want one of him that says "shiny and chrome". Sad that I won't be a dragon con to get any. I'd buy some if they were on etsy!

  28. That robot looks mighty cunning. Robot walks down the street wearing a hat like that, folks know he ain't afraid of anything!

    ReplyDelete
  29. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE!! put them on Etsy!!! The biggest thrill of my DC experience last year was seeing you OMG LIVE AND IN PERSON! and adding to my button collection! I think i freaked my friends out a bit ;) But that button was one of the highlights for me. And I am not able to make it every year, so I would totally buy them.. SHUT UP AND TAKE MY MONEY!!!!! LOVE YOU!!

    ReplyDelete
  30. Oh my gosh the Jayne one!!!! Very cunning :) All of the Disney gals would be spectacular. And I say gals, not princesses, because Mulan, Megara, Wendy, etc need love too!

  31. Stay Puft Marshmallow Bot and Doctor Bot are my favorites! I'll try and make the Thursday D*C meetup. I should be all checked in by then.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Love the StayPuft one the most, but I would buy them all if you put them on Etsy!

    ReplyDelete
  35. Yes! On Etsy please! How about a gold C3-PO version? Star Trek is tricky. Vulcan version with pointy antennae? HP lightning scar. Mickey ears suggested above would be great.

    ReplyDelete
  36. ETSY!!!! PLEASE!!!!! I fear I am never going to get to meet you in person! I love them all! (Ok, Mad Max the least, ha ha). Could you do a My Little Pony one maybe? Or a TMNT mask would be easy. I'm trying to think of how you could incorporate Supernatural, but I got nothing. :)

    2. Ooh yes please! Please please pretty please! I can't vote, btw, I love them all - and may I suggest a Dread Pirate Roberts masked Epbot, holding a buttercup?

  37. I hope to make it to the meetup. My flight gets in mid-afternoon, so after I check-in to the hotel and get my badge I plan on coming by if it's before 6:30.

The Stay Puft button is my favorite :)

    ReplyDelete
  38. I need the Doctor and Jayne ones. NEED THEM! Seriously, they're adorable.

    ReplyDelete
  39. My daughter and I would buy the Dr Who one. She says she does not have enough pins on her backpack.

    ReplyDelete
  40. I love Jayne and Dr. Who, but the Ghostbusters is awesome too. YES! ETSY!!

    ReplyDelete
  41. I'd love most of them but slimy Stay Puft wins my heart - I'd wear him with pride on my jumpsuit!

    ReplyDelete
  42. I am soooo there for the Meet Up!!! I can't WAIT to get to DragonCon. We missed last year, and I am about to bounce off the walls with excitement to go back "home".

    ReplyDelete
  43. please, please, PLEASE put them on your Etsy store!!! I so want Epbot Jayne!!! and I'm sure my sister would too, along with Dr. Epbot. And I'm way up in WI, so no Dragon Con in the future for me.

  44. Since John's such a Brony, how about some MLP ones?

    ReplyDelete
  45. I like them all. My favorites would have to be Firefly and Ghostbusters. John has some mad skills.

    ReplyDelete
  46. Etsy Etsy Etsy! I need the Wonder Woman version. This is my first time commenting, that's how much I want you to put them on Etsy.

    ReplyDelete
  47. I must have that Wonder Woman-bot. MUST.
Even though I'm in Atlanta, I won't be at Dragon*Con. I love the idea of selling them on Etsy! Maybe in packages of 3 or 4 sorta-related designs, instead of just individually?

  48. The Firefly one made me squee out loud! Love the Doctor Who one too. Wish Australia wasn't so far away...time someone invented portal travel I think.

  49. My favorite is the Ghostbusters pin, but I also like the Firefly and Wonder Woman ones!

    ReplyDelete
  50. Yes to Etsy (and add in the original there too!) and my favorite of the above has to be Jayne followed by Sta-Puft.

    ReplyDelete
  51. Would love the Ghostbusters, Star Wars, and the Wonder Woman one.

  53. DIBS ON AN ARIEL!!! And I'll totally buy a Jayne and Doctor as well :)

I must say, the Doctor is my favorite!

    ReplyDelete
  54. Ahh! Jen, the Jayne hat (Firely) pin *needs* to go up for sale for us poor Aussies who don't get to go to the awesome cons and meet fantastic people like you. Love the amount of effort you and John go to in order to make your fanfriends happy

    ReplyDelete
  55. DOCTOR WHO!!! Also, Wonder Woman, Leia and Immortan Joe. :D

I would SO buy these on Etsy. I have a "con bag" for all the conventions I go to (around Chicago) and I covered it in buttons. It's a drawstring backpack with a pocket on the outside. I stick the stuff I reach for frequently in the pocket, like my camera and some cash, and everything else stays safe inside the drawstring part. Also, I wear it so the pocket is against my back (not visible until I take it off). Plus, the drawstrings are thin enough that they're not super visible if I'm cosplaying.

  56. the whobot! and ghostbusters! and wonder woman! and i think we need a captain ameribot! oooo a supernatural bot! moosebot maybe?

    ReplyDelete
  57. I saw "Meetup at DC" and momentarily thought you were coming to WASHINGTON DC (yes, I went to your book signing when you were in the area) and got super excited. You should time a visit to join our ThinkGeek trivia team (one of the perks of living near their offices.)

Ack! I love these! Now I'm even *more* bummed I'm missing DC this year. Please put the Doctor button on Etsy!

    ReplyDelete
  59. Love this! I think my favorites are Wonder Woman and the Princess Leia bot :) I think John may need to add a My Little Pony bot (I always vote Fluttershy...) and/or a Khaleesi / Mother of Dragons bot! I've marked your meetup on my DragonCon schedule, so hope to see you Thurs evening (and score a pin!). Squeeee!

    ReplyDelete
  60. I would buy the Doctor Who, Firefly and Ghostbusters ones. For reals. That's my vote from Canada.

    ReplyDelete
  61. I like the Firelfy one!!!! :D (Though this may change when I see Ariel.)

    ReplyDelete
  62. My favorite is the Jayne Hat. Or the fez and bow tie. PLEASE put them on Etsy!!!!! Or, make your way up here to one of our smaller Michigan cons (ConFusion or Penguicon). I don't have the money to make it to the cons you regularly hit. :-(

    ReplyDelete
  63. I haven't been a fan long enough to have gotten any of the originals. Any chance of that? I can pay!

    ReplyDelete
  64. Here are my votes: 1. Ghostbusters 2. Dr. Who 3. Wonder Woman
They all look great, super job both of you!

    ReplyDelete
  65. These are all adorkable! I like the Ghostbusters and Leia ones the best but need the Dr. Who one for my sister. For suggestions maybe the Beast from Beauty and the Beast? Or a Minion? Plus there has to be a way to do an octopus or seahorse. Can't wait to see all the new designs!

    ReplyDelete
  66. I want the Mad Max Immortan Joe one most of all, followed closely by the Firefly and then wonder woman!! These are so super fun. Makes me wish even more I could go to Dragon-Con!

    ReplyDelete
  67. I had this epic vision of John as Wonder Woman, and then I read your post again. Heh.

    ReplyDelete
  68. A Castiel Epbot would pretty much make my whole life. But I'd definitely buy the Jayne one too if it was available online!

  70. These are adorable.
I love the Wonder Woman and Jayne and Doctor Who...but, mostly, Jayne.

    ReplyDelete
  71. I was all set to vote on the Jayne pin, but then I saw the Wonder Woman version, now I can't pick....
    What about adding Ashoka?

    ReplyDelete
  72. Jayne hat and Wonder Woman are my absolute faves. Super cute!

    ReplyDelete
  73. *squee* I love these! All of them! I can't pick a favorite! Firefly! No, Star Wars, no Mad Max! ARGH All of them! Pin all the pins! Great job, John and Jen!

    ReplyDelete
  74. Definitely the Jane one, but I'd also love to see a Warehouse 13 pin (with purple goo?). My daughter is debating whether to have a Warehouse 13 themed birthday party or not. She loves it and thinks it would be an awesome party, but none of her friends have seen it, what do Epbot readers think?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Yes! A Warehouse 13 theme would be awesome, both for a pin and for the party!

As for other pins, I love the steampunk one and now really want to see the Little Mermaid one, because yes, seashell bra on a robot is instant cuteness!

      Delete
    2. A Warehouse 13 themed party would be awesome, though some people may get it confused with National Treasure. I think that even without seeing the show, people could appreciate the gadgets and history and purple goo.

  75. Suggestions: C-3PO, R2D2, Aliens, Harley Quinn, Joker, Batman, Superman, Iron Man, and maybe some patriotic/military ones. Seriously, you guys are so amazing.

    ReplyDelete
  76. I love the fez one but I think the Princess Leia one is best- the face and words really POP against the simpler background- especially on the little pin. But I may be biast- my daughter is named Leah. Would definitely pay for these on Etsy!

Ps- could someone please explain to me how to change my name from Anonymous?!

  77. Wonder Woman!! I would pay to own her!!!

    ReplyDelete
  78. The Doctor and Jayne ones are my faves.

    ReplyDelete
  79. 10/10, would buy. I NEED the Tardis and Steampunk ones... NEED

    ReplyDelete
  80. The Immortan Joe one actually makes me laugh too, so I kind of like it! Wonder woman and the Doctor one are fantastic too!!

    ReplyDelete
  81. I would purchase EVERY ONE OF THESE PINS if you put them on Etsy! :D :D :D (I live in CO, so will not likely ever make it to DragonCon *sniff*). My fav? Probably Jayne & the Whovian.

I second the Star Trek - the 'bot as an Andorian would be great! I think a Farscape one would be sweet - put a wormhole behind him, give him a communicator and the black/red Crichton PK vest, with the Farscape font... I may have thought about this too much... :)

    ReplyDelete
  82. Oh my gosh! I love these! I think that the Doctor and the Stay Puft ones are my favorites! I got one of the original Epbot ones (like you had just gotten the button maker--around that time) in Phoenix when you came for the Cake Wrecks book tour. It is on my corkboard in my room and I look at it nearly everyday. It is so cute and I am so glad that I got one when I did!

    ReplyDelete
  83. All of them on Etsy, please!

    ReplyDelete
  84. Those are awesome! I adore the steampunk Epbot, but they all are so much fun! You guys are so creative. I would buy them if they were on Etsy!

Wish I lived on your coast so I could meet up with you at DC. I'm trying to get up the courage to try my first con out here. I've been working on a Victoria & Otto cosplay and I'd really like to finally try it out, but I'm kind of nervous about going.

    ReplyDelete
  85. Oh my god. I love Slimer, I love Joe, and I WILL SEE YOU ON THURSDAY :-D

  87. I absolutely love the Jayne/Firefly, Leia/Star Wars, Stay Puft/Ghostbusters, and the Wonder Woman one. I'd probably love the Ariel one as well, so count me in for an Etsy purchaser!!

    ReplyDelete
  88. I like them all but Doctor Who and Firefly are my favorites! And I love the idea of Supernatural. Yes, please, put them on Etsy so we can give you our money! :)

    ReplyDelete
  89. They ALL rock! But I'd have to say my favorites are the steampunk one (reminds me of Tik-Tok from Land of Oz) and the Dr. Who one.

Also, please, please, PLEASE sell these on Etsy! I'm a minor collector of pinback buttons and I would love to own these.

    ReplyDelete
  90. They're all amazing, but my favourites are Leia, the Doctor Who one, and the Wonder Woman. I would LOVE to buy these as I collect pins for my library bag. Maybe even include some in your art giveaways? ;)

    ReplyDelete
  91. They are all great! I love the Doctor Who and Firefly best, my daughter would go nuts for those! They would be a perfect little stocking stuffer from Santa! Please sell them.

    ReplyDelete
  92. Yes, please put them on Etsy! The Doctor Who, Firefly, and Ghostbuster ones are my favorites. :) Great job!

    ReplyDelete
  93. Yes, please put them on Etsy! As I live in Europe, it's highly unlikely that I will ever meet you guys in person, but I would still love to have buttons from my most favorite place on the whole internet! You could do a bundle, as I would like to have one of each :D. It would be great if you could include the original as well, as that one is awesome too! Of the new ones, I really love the Ghostbusters button. The idea to add the green slime was brilliant!!

    ReplyDelete
  94. the Doctor Who one is so cute!!! and John was right to make you add the wonderwoman!
Otherwise how do you feel about a mad hater epbot?

    ReplyDelete
  95. I was totally going for Jayne until I saw Wonder Woman FTW, that button's AWESOME. I also read that as John coming up with a Wonder Woman cosplay for himself and was all, GO JOHN. Still love the button!

    ReplyDelete
  96. The Jayne hat one is absolutely awesome!!! I'm excited to see what an Ariel one would look like!! We check into our hotel at 3 so hopefully I can just skip on over to the Marriot!! :)

    ReplyDelete
  97. So cool! I love em.

I can't find how to add you in the dcon app though :-(

    ReplyDelete

    2. Perfect! Thanks so much, I kept looking at 'friends' (how silly of me) which needed friend codes.

  98. Even though I'm a Star Wars person, I'd probably buy the Ghostbuster pin first. So cool!

  105. OMG! Jayne 'bot! Must have! Must!

Ahem. I really like the Jayne bot pin. Please make it available on Etsy so I can add to my Jayne love collection.
Although if a collection were made available I'd have to buy all of them. I'm a little crazy like that. In case you haven't noticed.
    thank you

    ReplyDelete
  106. Ghostbusters followed closely by Wonder Woman - I too would totally buy them in your etsy shop.

    ReplyDelete
  107. I have been enjoying the ad banners as a reminder of some of the posts I've loved. So far my vote is Wonder Woman, but I would like to reserve my final vote after seeing Ariel. I always have a weakness for all things LM.

    ReplyDelete
  108. I love the SteamPunk pin and Leia. And I would buy or a set of three! My suggestion for anew design is either Tonks/Lily or My Little Brony.

    ReplyDelete
  109. Yep I would buy all of these, especially Wonder Woman and Ghostbusters! What an amazing idea! I need some cute pins in my life.

I have about 40 additional ideas. Epbot wearing Disney Mickey Ears, which would be perfect for park meetups (I swear, one day, I'll get down there for one of those). And oh, how about with a Dreamfinder tophat? Also, Avatar the Last Airbender (the arrow on the forehead!), Jurassic Park (stuck inside amber!), Harry Potter (glasses and lightning scar!), Darth Vader (mostly a paint job), Cakewrecks (holding a cake and wearing a chef's hat!). OK, ok, I'll stop now :)

    ReplyDelete
  110. My daughter collects pins and would love the steampunk or Ghostbuster pins. I love the Wonder Woman!
How about an Eppie with an Ewok hat? Spiderman logo and webs? Captain America shield? Geez, your fans love you and John, so probably anything you put on Etsy would find followers :D

    ReplyDelete
  111. The steampunk Epbot is my favorite. I'm just swooning over the mustache! :^~). Dr. Who Epbot is a close 2nd. I can see how you and John are having fun designing them.

    ReplyDelete
  112. Holy cow! These are great. If they were available on Etsy, I would probably buy them all. Jayne is my favorite though.

    ReplyDelete
  113. Ermagherd these turned out amazing! I think Jayne's hat made me laugh the most. :)

    ReplyDelete
  114. These are FABULOUS! I love the Jayne one, the Steampunk one, and (I'm weird), the Immortan Joe. Really, I like them all. Oh, but Wonder Woman is my fave! Please please please sell on Etsy! I'm a left coaster, so the odds of seeing you at a con are slim for me, but I'd buy a handful on Etsy in a second.

    ReplyDelete
  115. Doctor Who and Steampunk! Love those! And girl, I would totally buy these off you. I would love to have these buttons!

    ReplyDelete
  116. Please tell me that the very orange stockingcapped one is Jayne Cobb, the hero of Canton! Must have!

    ReplyDelete
  117. OMG, I won! thanks so much, Jen! Emailed with my address.

In regards to the pins, I love them all. I think this is so creative, and they are so well done. My favourites are the Dr, Jayne, Leia and Wonder Woman :-).

    Well done, as usual!

    ReplyDelete
  118. I would buy all of them on Etsy! Especially the Jayne and Doctor ones.
It would be really cool to have a Princess Bride bot... maybe Westley's black mask?

    ReplyDelete
  119. OMG THERE'S A JAYNE ONE!!!! I love you!!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  120. Oh, I would definitely buy some of these if you put them on Etsy! And Ariel sounds awesome, too! Buy ALL the pins!!! ;-)

    ReplyDelete
  121. Please please please put them on etsy! I need that firefly and wonder woman pins and I'm to far out in nowhere land to make it to cons or Disney :) oh and you guys should make a captian america bot too

    ReplyDelete
  122. C3PO, Belle, and the 10th Doctor please!

I so love the Wonder Woman!

    ReplyDelete
  123. Epbot pins on etsy? Yes please!!!! I need them to join the other two ;)

Supergirl bot? Iron man bot? Or is that too easy? Chris Pratt in Jurassic World with 3 bot raptors? (Maybe a little too ambitious!) Figment though would be cool - to celebrate your Figment for DC!

    ReplyDelete
  124. John is a talented guy! Unfortunately, I'm missing Dragon Con for the first time in eight years this year. I've seen you and John several times but have always been to shy to come say hello. Maybe next year I'll have to get over it to claim an awesome button!

    ReplyDelete
  125. Please offer them on etsy! I love Ghost BUsters, Leia and Wonder Woman the best so far! They are adorable!

    ReplyDelete
  126. I am so torn between Wonder Woman and Jayne Cobb, I love them both!

  157. JAYNE!!! Gimme, gimme. I fell in love with (read: became obsessed) Firefly because of your blog. Like, I even read the graphic novels, and I DON'T read graphic novels.

  158. Love all of the buttons, but Jayne and the Ghostbusters one are my faves! The Wonder Woman one is cute too! Please, please, please put these on Etsy! It's not likely that I'll ever make it to a con near you and I would love to have one (or more) of these pins to decorate my home office!

    ReplyDelete
  159. The Jayne Hat and the Ghostbusters one! Do put them on Etsy please. I don't have the means to go to far away cons.

  160. I must add my vote to the Etsy idea, please. I am currently collecting one badge for every uni subject I pass and I MUST have the Jayne one to add to my collection :)

  161. Wonder Woman is definitely my favorite of the ones you've released thus far. The Steampunk one is my next fave. I'm loving all the suggestions your readers are making, but the one that would be EPIC is Harry Potter! Lady Vadore would be like an inside joke for the faithful readers (the outsiders wouldn't know the significance). Yes, please put them up on Etsy. You have an eager cohort of consumers so fill that need! Have a great time at DC. We'll all look forward to the photo essay when you return.

  162. I plan to buy all of these and have a shadow box with a cork-board back so I can display them. I'll have fun re-ordering them as you release new ones :)

  163. Also, I vote for a Sherlock Epbot!!

  167. Really?!! OMG THANK YOU SO MUCH!!! Okay. Going back to the board, but I think I already know what I want. Also I started a new job this week (my first grown up one after college!) and I was just thinking about re-cruising the art board to figure out what I want to hang in my office!! Oh! And now I need to know how to hang it all! I am thinking of getting a set of frames from Amazon and spray painting them all Gold. Or maybe copper....

Looking! Update before the end of the day!

  168. I love the Leia! It's obvious, clean and funny. I also love the Jayne and The Doctor and Wonder Woman and all the others. Have a wonderfilled Dragon Con with the newest little (or not-so) dragon. Looking forward to pictures!

  169. I love this idea! You and John are so creative! Hate to introduce an icky thought, but I do recommend you confirm with 'the powers that be' of the borrowed franchises that charging money for your pins is alright with them. Just want to see you and John keep on rockin, rather than bogged down in legal red tape; better safe than sorry! Hope it works out, and if so, recommend you talk to the Star Trek powers that be. I'm giddy with the idea of an EPBOT AS or WITH Data pin... or Picard... or with Crusher's ginger locks and teal uniform... Or with Spock's ears and uniform... I wish you Q`plah!
