A Dizgeek's Dream

If you're a hardcore Dizgeek (like me) with a bank account to rival Scrooge McDuck (not so much like me), then have *I* got the auction for you!

Next month, Profiles in History (the outfit that previously held that awesome Back to the Future auction) will be putting up some amazing Disneyana for sale. I learned about it through Inside the Magic, my favorite Disney blog, which if you love Disney - and I mean REALLY love Disney - you should definitely add to your reader.

Now, who wants an original Mr. Toad's Wild Ride car?

How adorable would this be in your front yard? Eh? Anyone?

'Course, it's estimated to go for between $8,000 and $12,000, so...I wonder how hard it'd be to DIY? Heheh. (I just love the color scheme, don't you?)

Or, for a spare $15,000 to $20,000, you could own the ORIGINAL Fuzzball:

Now you can put on a puppet show with the cutest character from Captain EO!
(Just be sure to invite me, Ok?)

Hey, anyone remember The Black Hole?

Ok, so I don't. (Hey, it's a little before my time, Ok?) Still, how cute is little V.I.N.CENT. here? $16,000-$20,000 and he's YOURS.

Or, hold on to your helmets, 'cuz this next one rocks:

[swoon]

Hm. I guess $12,000 is a little steep for a theoretical crossplay Rocketeer costume. But still...

And finally, this one's not Disney, but I know how often you've fantasized about dressing up as Gozer the Gozerian, so...

Ta-da!

Sure, it looks a little rough, but get this: this original Gozer costume was actually found over a year ago in a rack of "unidentified costumes" in a surplus store! You can read the story (and see more pictures) on my favorite Ghostbusters blog here. Amazing. Makes me want to find a surplus store with unidentified costume racks. (Where do you find those, anyway?)

Oh, and here's a shot of Gozer herself for comparison:

Now for $8,000 - $12,000, you, too, can ask people if they're a god.

(And we all know the answer to THAT, now, don't we?)

See lots more of the auction goodies here, or go download the entire massive catalog here.

  1. Ray, when someone asks if you're a god, you say YES! ;)

  2. If I had $120,000, I'd buy the Sleeping Beauty production cel and pan background. DUDE. If only we all had Scrooge McDuck's mountains of cash!

  3. Ooh. In my dream world where I'm a multimillionare playwoman, I'd have a steampunk office with the Rocketeer's helmet on the shelf. I may have to settle for a DIY version instead.

  4. So don't freak out, but I met Gozer once. She came into my office. She's just as severe and Russian-looking as you would expect.

  5. I sort of remember The Black Hole. I'm pretty sure I saw it as a double feature with the original Tron. But I was only about four so my memory can resonably be questioned.

  6. Dear Jen,
Thank you for the link to the auction website. I have now wasted four hours of my life drooling over their catalogs. This place is so full of awesome and win. :)

  7. Now I know you can come up with a DIY "hood ornament." And when you do please post step by step directions for the rest of us.:-)
BTW, I'll admit it, Vincent and Bob are from my childhood. Blackhole was a little long, ponderous, and scary the first time I saw it as a little kid. Rented it on video a few years back and it was much better!

  9. I just had an awesome idea for the Mr. Toad's Wild Ride car - if you had the kind of $$ to blow on something like that, the best use would be a very large home theater with several cars like it for seating so that it looked like a drive-in movie theater, eh, eh?

  10. Wow. Just... Wow.

Though I giggled madly at the random collection of Star Trek bridge buttons. And the pastel of Spock performing a Mind Meld on Nixon!

I think the Western Costume Co. does a sale each year out in CA. Not exactly sure, I read about it on a cosplay forum--one soul happened upon a piece like that Captain Marvel jacket on pg 251.

  11. Oh my god, I MUST have V.I.N.CENT.! The movie came out when I was too young to remember it, but I do recall watching the video multiple times as a child and he was far & away my favorite character.

  12. On a completly unrelated note - did you see Tom Felton (AKA Draco Malfoy) got added to Dragon*con?

I know someone (I won't say who hahaha) that is going to be SUPER excited

  13. Whoa!

    Whoa!!!

    WHOOOAAAAAA!!!!!!!!

That's some ridiculous Disney stuff up for auction.

I used to work at the Disney Store in Nashville, and we had a CM there who was older, and grew up in California... through the most amazing set of circumstances, she was actually babysat by WALT HIMSELF! She hung out in Walt's office and he played with her and her sister, and at the end of the day he decided that she was like Sleeping Beauty and her sister was like Alice and gave them each personalized and signed artwork of each character... I don't know if they were movie cells or what they were... I can't remember.

She brought hers into work one day.. of course, it's matted and framed and stuff, but to see Walt's own handwriting, and to know that she actually met him.. amazingly overwhelming....

I mention it cause there's an autographed Sleeping Beauty cell somethin' or another... one wonders how much hers would go for.. Of course she'd NEVER in a gazillion years sell it... but, yeah! lol

  14. Profiles in History used to have a show on SyFy channel called Hollywood Treasures. I was ALL OVER that show. I would get so excited by the stuff they had on there. I about DIED when they went into Stan Winston's workshop and just found boxes of random stuff from his films. They found two working raptor heads, the fake arm Arnold wore when it was torn off in T2 by the cogs, working Terminators and Terminator machines...I about died. The saddest part of all of this? I identified the T2 arm and the exact scene immediately and they had no idea what it was! I don't know why the show isn't on anymore. But Profiles in History does have a FB page--check it out!

  15. That car wouldn't go in the front yard. That bad boy's going right in the living room!

  16. Thanks for encouraging my tendency towards time-suckage! Yes, I'm a Disneyland junkie, and if given an unlimited amount of time and money would likely accumulate quite a memorabilia collection.

I love the "Toad" car, but my family already has a 1911 Model-T, which is essentially a real-life Toad car. It's a rolling money pit, so I don't think we need another!

  17. I bought some of the LOST props when Profiles in History had the big LOST auction, so now they send me catalogs every time they are having a sale. I kinda appreciate it since it's fun looking through a 6 pound catalog, but wish they'd stop since I'm saving up for a new house and really don't need to be spending any money.

  18. Unrelated:

Couch with mini fridge... but it's not just any couch. Scroll down a bit, you'll know when you see it. (Sorry, no direct link.) Plus, the attached beer cooler?! Win!!

  20. Do you, by chance, read Regretsy? If not, you should - it's a roundup of, er, less-than-mainstream items for sale on Etsy. But the woman who runs it is a voice actor, and does a lot of work for Disney. Actually, she's the daughter of the voice of Tigger, and she voices Clarabelle on the new Mickey Mouse Clubhouse. ANYWAY, as if that's not cool enough, she recently posted a bunch of pictures from Disney Studios. Here's the post:
