A Few Favorites From Wondercon 2015

Norm over at Tested (Adam Savage's site) always posts the most amazing, ENORMOUS photo galleries whenever he hits up a convention, and his latest set from Wondercon last weekend boasts a whopping 634 photos. It's cosplay heaven!

I started to just pin all my favorites, but quickly realized some of this stuff needed to be shared with all of you.

Because, seriously, you have to see these Slave Leia mashups.

 How great is this Ariel??

John tells me he's already seen this steampunk Leia all over; I guess she was popular with the photographers. Easy to see why! - and I'm digging her hair clips.

I admit it: the buns on this Rapunzel made me laugh out loud:

I think it's also her expression. :D

Now throw in a Harley Leia and a Princess Bubblegum, because why not:

And finally, the most epic of them all:

Slave Elsa & Hans (yes, HANS) Solo!

I'm amazed by how pale her skin is - so perfect for the part, and I don't think it's even makeup!

Speaking of Frozen, there were already costumes out from the new Frozen short, Frozen Fever:

 Love that embroidery on Anna.

Tell me this Joker isn't totally channeling Benedict Cumberbatch:

 Right?

And this Belle is the spitting image of Emma Watson!

THAT DRESS. I wish the photo showed all of it!

And this Hawk Girl:
WOW.

Fantastic Darth Vader armor:

With a matching "Red" Guard:

Now Xena and the Mario princesses... as Playboy Bunnies:

There's something I never thought I'd see.

How badass is this modern Merida?

And while we're at it, have a punk Merida & Snow White:

Love all the stuff on their vests.

Not sure on the character, but this is some of the best cosplay armor I've seen in ages:

Beautiful.

Plus I was delighted to see several Spider-Gwens!

At first glance on this last one, I thought, "Wow, epic steampunk Vader!"

Then I looked closer, and realized he has a Millennium Falcon strapped to his chest, R2 on his helmet, a giant toy octopus on his wrist, and he's wearing a Star Wars Hawaiian shirt... with a corset

And I thought, "Wait, is he mocking us??"

And then, well, I just couldn't stop laughing.

So, parody or not, I SALUTE YOU, SIR.

I have so many more favorites, but I'm going to end there. Definitely click over to Norm's full gallery now, so you can find your own favs. Trust me, there is SO MUCH GOODNESS, I've barely scratched the surface. (And if you're new to Tested, don't miss their video section. Adam's "One Day Builds" are like nerd crack to me.)

Oh! And one final shot from Wondercon, this time from ParksAndCons over on Instagram:

Little girl Thor teaches Captain Hammer a lesson.

Ha!

Now I can't wait for MegaCon this weekend, so I can take my own photos. (Awww yeeeeah.) See some of you there!

  1. I believe that gal's cosplay is from World of Warcraft, of Deathwing (a black dragon, and the final boss of the Cataclysm expansion) in his human form.

Here's some concept art from Blizzard: http://vignette4.wikia.nocookie.net/wowwiki/images/6/6e/Deathwing_human_form_by_arsenal21-d3ezv3v.jpg

And here's his in game model: http://vignette3.wikia.nocookie.net/wowwiki/images/2/24/DeathwingHuman_Cata.png

    1. Though she could be something else as well as the weapon looks different than Deathwing used and the armor is not quite 100% the same. But Deathwing is my initial impression! :)

    2. I think she is just cosplaying in a WoW armor set. If you look at Colossal Dragonplate Battlegear set on Wowhead it's very similar (http://www.wowhead.com/transmog-set=1197/colossal-dragonplate-battlegear). I am not sure what weapon she is wielding, but I bet with a bit more digging you could figure it out. :)

    3. I was gonna say a genderswapped Deathwing at first, too, but I think Erin's right with that Colossal Dragonplate.

As for the weapon, it's the new Black Hand mace (http://www.wowhead.com/item=113979/the-black-hand&bonus=0).

  2. I can't wait for your Megacon photos! I had planned to go, but my move schedule unfortunately got completely messed up and now I can't make it. :( I'll have to continue living vicariously through your con photos just a little bit longer!

  3. Wow, Slave Elsa looks exactly like Natalie Dormer! Love these pics, but Little Thor and Captain Hammer definitely win the day.

    2. Me too. It brings out the big sister need to yell, "STOP LOOKING AT HER LIKE THAT!"

    3. I can tell you for a fact HarLeia is second least naked! (Steamy Leia is completely covered!) ;-D I'm a lot older than the young Leias so totally have full coverage behind me and underneath all that. ;-)

    4. The Rapunzel Leia definitely could have used a smidge more coverage--so much skin!

  9. I'm pretty sure the unidentified photo is the warrior tier 13 set (from World of Warcraft) with the Rend Blackhand hammer. https://www.pinterest.com/pin/83035186856319279/ might even be the same girl.

    1. Yep I was thinking the same thing that the armor was from WoW. Looks like the warrior shoulders from Deathwing but I'm not 100% sure and Blackhand's hammer.

  10. The "modern Merida" is actually based off of this art: http://www.deviantart.com/art/The-Walking-Disney-Pixar-Merida-439604598

    1. I'm so glad you posted this! I saw the "Modern Merida" and thought to myself, "That's gotta be a Daryl-Merida mashup!" Now I'm digging through Kasami-Sensei's work and practically drooling...

    2. I'm sorry, I meant this for Marcie...

Agree that Tiny Thunder is adorable though! :)

  13. Dude Vader thanks you for adding me to your gallery and your comments. The first six Star Wars movies are featured over my entire outfit with old figures to entertain the kid in all of us.

  14. Anybody look through the gallery on tested and see the woman dressed all in black with a black umbrella? I'm trying to figure out what she's from; it seems familiar.
    Thanks!

  15. I loooove the punk Snow and Merida!! Tell me I'm not the only one...that Snow White looks like Alison Scagliotti. :)

  18. I always love it when you post con pics! The "Red" Guard with Vader is actually a Shadow Guard from the "Star Wars: Power of the Force" video game. They have a pretty awesome back story too!
    Shadow Guard
If I ever get my skills up to 501st level, it is a costume I'd love to rock!

  19. The Merida is actually a really well done cosplay from a painting from a collection of disney characters during the zombie apocalypse. I cant find the artist name, but that cosplay is SPOT ON!!!
