My Friends Are Such Geeks...

...and I couldn't be more proud.

Yep, John and I convinced our friends Ray & Julianne to let us do THIS to their nursery:

If these photos look familiar, it's because they were also posted on Super Punch. I sent them to John soon after we finished the room.

The ninjas started out as small pencil sketches by Ray, who is a graphic designer, and then John and I designed and painted the whole room to incorporate them. Aren't they cute?

And speaking of cute, here's the Baby Ninja himself, Isaiah:

...wearing his "I am NINJA!" onesie.

And now a ninja punch, just for cute's sake:

Isn't it nice to see Geeks: The Next Generation in good hands? :D

  1. um. there are way too many adorable things in this post. Their kid's name is VALOR? And they FLEW HIM LIKE SUPERMAN? omg. <3! (Also his big old grin at the end of the video was incredibly adorable.) And the Ninja bedroom? LOVE! And Ninja baby is adorable!

This is not helping my baby fever AT ALL. We need another small geek in our household!!

  3. Baby post! Yaaaaaaaaay! Also I'm so happy to hear that the Gjertsons are doing well. I read their blog after you mentioned it, start to finish.

  4. I adore that ninja nursery!!! I love my sister, and I love my nephew, but now I want him to have a ninja nursery instead of the jungle room he's got. It's a really cool jungle room, but DUDE! Ninjas!

And where can I get my nephew that Superman outfit? It is necessary, I think.

  5. That's incredible! I really like Baby Ninja. I can't wait to have my own geek, someday, long into the future. For now I'll just keep trying to geekify my niece

  6. I thought the empty room pictures were of the actual baby ninja(s), until I saw the follow-ups.

How many baby ninjas were in the crib with him?

  7. Oh my goodness! The cuteness is overwhelming!
First the otters, and now this! I am in cuteness overload!

  8. When I saw that ninja nursery last year, I just about died. That's EXACTLY what my boyfriend would want as a nursery, assuming he didn't faint dead away whenever anyone says "baby" in his vicinity. I happen to think it's pretty awesome, too :)

  9. Ack! My ovaries hurt from all the baby cuteness, I can barely stand it. Yet I love every minute of it!!

  10. That would have been perfect if their son's name was the same as my oldest's: Clark!

    I LOVE the ninja room!

  11. OMG, so cute!

And to think, our friends thought a plush d20 was dorky enough for our newborns :P Oh, and the FIRST onsie..

Either way, ninjas totally own the ladybugs we had :(

  13. I checked out the Gjertson's blog and discovered I live in the same city! Small, small world! Would it be creepy to hunt them down and greet them like long-lost friends, while spouting personal information about them that I gleaned from their and your blogs? I'm thinking it would...

  15. Oh yeah, Im a hardcore Gjertsen cyber stalker. Love them I do. Peek in on them so much my daughter thinks Valor is her cousin.

Once lived with a woman who let me paint the whole inside of her two story house with murals...sigh, double rainbow bliss.

  16. Instead of Geeks: The Next Generation, shouldn't it be Geeks 2.0 *snicker*

  17. I love that baby Valor is so happy! He's like, "Mom's laughing, so something good must be happening... I don't get it, but I'm going to smile and pretend I do".

And Baby Ninja's punch! I melted.

You know, I don't think it's an accident that both of these geek-babies look so happy...

  18. The kids are so happy, too! I love it. I really want to know what these kids think when the grow up and see these videos/pics...

  22. I definitely made that "I am NINJA!" onesie, though the idea came from someone else. Love both families and babies! You know you can't wait until they are old enough to watch geeky movies with you!

  26. Oh jeeze, that ninja nursery?? Too bad hubby just got snipped, or I'd have another baby just so I could decorate a room like that. Even if you had a girl, you could make pink ninja's. So cute/awesome/dorky!

  27. This is oh-so-adorable!!! I love that the boy's name is Valor..Worth.

  28. I saw the Ninja Room on Super Punch a while back. It made me want to have another baby. When my husband said no I asked him if we could decorate our bedroom like that. He said no :(

  39. the funny thing is... i can totally see myself or my group of friends doing similar things with (and to) our kids when they get here. between my proclivity for making weird things out of yarn and my magician husband, our kids don't have a chance a normalcy.

sorta on the subject, check out the 50 my little pony mods for geeks on buzzfeed.com (i really like the spock pony)

  40. Ninjas + Nursery = AWESOME!!!!!

please tell me that in the VERY near future i can buy those fantastic ninja pics in a store!

not because the hubby and i have a baby on the way... not yet at least.

because we are the type of geeks who would want this in OUR bedroom!

  41. So cute and nice to know that plenty of people are instructing the next generation in the Art of The Geek.

I'm doing my part. My sons love all things superheroes (their favorite at the moment being Ben 10) and can quote Looney Tunes lines by heart. Yes, my 3 year old - when prompted with "Rabbit Season" - will say "Duck Season! Fire! Psssh!" (His imitation of Elmer's gun firing.)

Oh and did I mention that my oldest and I are making a board game? All about math? Using Lego minifigs as playing pieces and 2 D12 die? *watches proudly as my son's Geek-rating soars*

  42. WOW. that video and those pictures are seriously TOO cute. LOVE!

  44. My oldest Abbey is a geek with a splash of nerd. Lindsay, her younger sister is a spaz with geek around the edges. The tapestry of DNA is fascinating.

  46. I have to say that I have watched this video over to cheer me up and causeme to smile uncontrollably. Thank you and your friends!

  47. Larissa - I got that outfit (in several different sizes so he can wear it for years) at WalMart. They're technically PJ's.

It's nice to know there's a community of kids growing up where my kid will fit in as he ages. While he's somewhat behind in speech, he can sign "dragon" and "unicorn." I'm content.

  48. this makes me want to do a baby ninja vs pirates when I have a kid :)

  49. Wow, love the nursery. So how can I buy the ninjas? Are you guys selling htme, because you should!!
