Mid-Century Castles, Underwater Ruins, And "Unseen Forces"

Hey. HEY.

::eyebrow waggle::

Want to see some cool art?

I got all kinds! I'm your one-stop shop!

And since John and I are going to Disney Springs tonight for a reader meetup - where I will no doubt concern some of you with that eyebrow waggle - let's start with some super happy Disney art by Hayden Evans:

Hayden channels the best of Mary Blair with his mid-century style and love of Disney:

His illustrations are pure joy:

And his pop culture pieces are just as fun!

Have to include the Golden Girls, of course. Have to:

See what I mean? SO FUN. You can shop all of Hayden's prints at his Etsy shop, and also be sure to follow him on Instagram.

*****

Dada Atolye over in Turkey makes entire underwater worlds from wood, resin, and tiny sculptures you have to see to believe:

WHOA.

Right?

Ahhh, but wait 'til you turn the lights out.  ::resists urge to waggle eyebrows::

JAW DROP

Y'all. These are incredible. Each piece is completely different from day to night, and it's addicting going through Dada's account to see each underwater world both ways:

Dada hand sculpts all the scenes - and see those divers? They're about the size of a thumbnail.

Here's my favorite so far: a sea dragon that looks like a seahorse:

The polished resin acts like a mirror, so you get trippy reflections on all sides.

Daaaang. The prices are (deservedly) well beyond most of our budgets, but definitely check out Dada's Etsy shop to browse and dream anyway. Then give him a follow on Instagram to see his new work. (He posts progress pictures of the tiny sculpts, so you can see just how small and detailed they are!)

*****

I've been a fan of Stephanie Law for nearly two decades, and STILL her work takes my breath away. In fact I've had this new piece, "Unseen Forces," open in a separate tab for the last 4 days, just so I can keep clicking over to look at it:

I can't be the only one who sees this as a battle against mental illness, right? The light, the stance, the way the warrior isn't so much fighting as she is holding the dark at bay... oof. So powerful.

Stephanie has a style you'll know anywhere; I've never seen anyone come close to the level of detail and intricacy in her soft watercolor layers:

Talk about paintings you can lose yourself in; I stared at this next one for ages before I noticed the skeletal fish:

Check out Stephanie's website, Shadowscapes, to browse everything from prints to tote bags, pins, and even original paintings! You can also follow her on Instagram.

*****

Emy of Mioren Art is an Italian sculptor who pairs her adorable creature heads with fabric hanging hoops:

Aren't they fabulous?

The candy kitty is riding that creepy/cute line, ha.

Emy even makes some of them into wearable pins:

Looove. You can shop all of Emy's creations at the Mioren Art webstore.

*****

And finally, the purr-fect combination:

Bumble-Kitty! Or Kitty Bee?

This adorableness is by Katie Hofgard of Eskiworks, who paints incredible fantasy creatures:

This one is "Spring Tea Spirit":

And we can never have enough galaxy cats:

You can see all of Katie's work on DeviantArt, and browse her prints, stickers, and pins over in her Etsy shop!

I hope these gave you a smile and some new creators to follow!

Now, before you go, let's give away some FREE art. You have three choices, which I've put together from my personal stash following a "dragon" theme, just 'cuz. All are new and never displayed. The catch is, you must choose only one. Tell me your favorite set, and I'll announce the 3 random winners in my next post!

DOOR #1: Twice the Toothless

Top print by Christie Cox, bottom print by Kit Steel.  Both 5X7, both signed by the artists.

DOOR #2: Narwhals & Dragon Specs

The Narwhals one was a gift, anyone know the artist? It says "Dreamy Time Parfait."

The distinguished dragon is a signed 5X7 by Kate Carleton. Both are printed on glossy postcard stock.

DOOR #3: Dragon Hug

Matted, signed, and hand-embellished print by Mike Bocianowski, ready to pop into an 8X10 frame.

Happy commenting, and happy Tuesday!

UPDATE: The give-away has ended!

The winner of the Toothless set is Texpenguin
The winner of Dragon Specs is Emily F
And the winner of Dragon Hug is froggibabey

Congrats, you three, and please e-mail me your mailing addresses!

  45. From your last art roundup, my Otte-er framed print from Lucia Heffernan arrived last week. It fills me with joy whenever I look at it. ☺️
I agree with your interpretation of the “Unseen Forces” print. I looked at the image before I read your words, and it immediately brought to mind how I feel about my CFS/ME.

    ReplyDelete
  46. the 2nd one, the dragon reminds me of Lord Peter Wimsey (were he a dragon of course!) all he's missing is Harriet Vane and Bunter. :-) what a charming sophisticated dragon he is.

  56. So am I the only one who sees that last galaxy cat as Goose from Captain Marvel? :)

    ReplyDelete
  57. That resin art is breathtaking. Amazing artist recommendations, lots of awesome stuff to look at. I would love the 'Dragon Hug" one (3). Because, it reminds me of a book from my childhood called "There's no such thing as a Dragon", which I loved beyond reason. I would put a picture in (It is uncanny), but it won't let me. So here's a Youtube reading! Thanks! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A-BQ6wKlMZA

  58. Oooh, Toothless would be great - mostly because he bears a striking resemblance to our black pug when she's asleep ...
