24-Hour Disney Day Meetup

John and I have heard from quite a few of you going to the 24-hour Disney day tomorrow, so I'd love to get you all together for a little Epbot pow-wow, if you're up for it! I'm thinking we can meet up at the Sunshine Tree Terrace (aka the little counter-service spot next to the Flying Carpets, across from the Jungle Cruise) at midnight:

We can all get Citrus Swirls, sit for a while, shoot the breeze, quote Princess Bride at each other, you know - the works.

Now, I know a lot of you are exactly like me, meaning you're kind of shy about going up to total strangers and introducing yourself, but I don't expect there will be more than 10 or 20 of us, tops, so please come out if you can! I'll even bring Epbot and Vader-riding-a-pony buttons for ya, because I am SO not above bribery. :)

You can also keep track of me that night on Twitter, in case you're not able to make the meetup but still want to find us to say hi.

See some of you there - and for the rest of you, stay tuned for a photo post! I'm hoping to get more crowd-free shots ala last year's.

  1. I wish I could join you guys! I'm purchasing my Disney annual pass on Friday, but I'm going to have 3 small children with me and an all-nighter is not in the cards. Perhaps next year...

  2. I'm totally jealous, as "I genuinely believe and have believed for some time now that we can be best friends."

  3. Benjamin has Prom tomorrow night. I am thinking about bringing him to the Magic Kingdom after the dance is over. He loves being in the park after dark. I will also bring copies of my book '3500', about Ben and Snow White, because I am not above shameless self-promotion. ;-)

  4. Grr, I SO wish I lived in Florida right now! :D Looking forward to living vicariously through your photos.

  5. I wish I may, I wish I might go to the Epbot readers meet up night. Alas, I live over a thousand miles away, so that will just have to wait until another far off day...

  6. I'm going through some MAJOR Disney withdrawals right now, but I'm in Texas, so... But y'all have fun! Looking forward to the photo post. :)

BTW - Have you read Kingdom Keepers by Ridley Pearson? They're aimed at, I'd say, junior high age but I'm obsessed with them. They're about a group of kids that when they go to sleep, they "wake up" in the parks. *sigh* http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Kingdom_Keepers

  7. If it weren't for the fact that I have no expendable money and a crippling fear of alligators, I would totally meet up with you so we can finally buy some leiderhosen together. Oh well, looking forward to your future posts.

  8. Yay! I was only going to go to Star Wars Weekends tomorrow (cause it is the only day I could make before they end) and leave after the Hyperspace Hoopla. But I'll totally re-caffienate and hop over to Magic Kingdom for the chance to be bribed with buttons :)

    1. Yay! That's one! I'm telling John that if less than 10 people show up, we're totally buying everyone Citrus Swirls. ;)

    2. I think I owe *you* a citrus swirl for showing me how to use my WDW pressed pennies to make jewelry! :-) My hubby and I are flying in Friday afternoon (we booked the trip before they announced the 24 hour thing) but if the park hasn't reached capacity when we get there we'll come by and say Hi at midnight!

    3. Ugh - that looks creepy to post as Anonymous and then say "see you tomorrow!" I'm Julie.

    4. Don't worry - we're all WAY past creepy here. ;) And if it's anything like last time the crowds will start to thin around midnight; after the parade & fireworks a lot of folks throw in the towel. 3AM or so was just about perfect.

  9. Wish I lived in Florida. And not just because it's 60 degrees today. Have fun!!

  10. Ohhh! Will you be going to any more of the Star Wars Weekends? I will be at DHS with my family on Sunday, June 2!

    1. It's always possible, though I don't have any set plans to. Tweet at me the day before, to remind me, and maybe we can come out!

    2. That would be awesome! I'll set myself a reminder to Tweet the day before :)

  11. Why, oh why can't I teleport myself places? That'd make going 1,700 miles a lot easier! Alas, I will follow your tweets and pictures and imagine myself there.

  12. ::sigh:: I hate living so far from Florida right now :P If you do this again next year I will WALK to Florida if I have to!

  13. I would love to hop a plane from Vancouver and come and meet you . . . I will settle for checking out the twitter feed the next morning since midnight your time is 3 a.m. my time and I am not staying up that late.

    Looking forward to photos.

  14. I wish I could, but I won't be able to get to Disney until next weekend the 2 & 3. Some of my airship crew and I are doing Magic Kingdom on Saturday and SWW on Sunday.

  15. Aw, man! I wanna go! :/ Promise me you'll still be going to Disney five years from now when I will have finally saved up enough money to take my family there?

    ReplyDelete
  16. Jealous! Though I'll be following the twitter feed it won't be the same. It's been a while since I've been there but if hubby & I ever end up being able to afford it, I'm so going back :)

  17. Andrei and I will be there... did I tell you we moved to Orlando due to work and that now we live *behind* (and when I say behind, I mean BEHIND) the Magic Kingdom?

    Well now you know.

    See you guys tomorrow!

  18. Waaaaaaaaaa! I was sooooo going to meet you there. We are driving from Naples that night, and will get up there too late to make it worthwhile(other than meeting you and John, that is!!!) to do the late night hours, and I will be pooped from driving. I know that I will randomly run into you in one of the parks one of these days!

  19. I'd love to do one of these 24 hour events. I didn't know they did that until I saw your 2/29/12 post and I didn't know they were doing it again until you mentioned it recently. Are they an annual thing? I would plan a trip down around that!

    1. Both times were surprise events, announce within 2 months of the actual day of the event. The first time EVER was leap day last year, and there were rumors that they might do it again in 2016, but I don't think anyone expected it for sure.

  20. I will absolutely be there. Are you kidding? Vader riding a pony? Worth it even if the company stinks, which there is a 0% chance of.

    ReplyDelete
  21. I don't live there, or else, I'd totally be there. :( But... I'm coming down to Orlando around the 4th of July for my niece's birthday, so can I put in a request for a raincheck? :)

    ReplyDelete
  22. Wish I could. Our passes expired and we're far too poor right now to renew. Hope your event is enjoyable!

  23. *pouts* Why oh WHY do I have to be on the other side of the Atlantic? I would LOVE to meet you and John someday; you seem like my kind of people. :)

  24. Midnight, my wife and I will be there!

  25. I'm still debating going to Disneyland's....I went last year and it was a total madhouse. If you were on this coast that would make my decision a lot easier!

    1. From what I saw, DL had it WAY worse than we did at WDW, so I don't blame you! Not sure I'd be up for those crowds!

      Delete
    2. It was better this year in some ways... last year, DL didn't expect the crowd, not enough staff and only one park open. This year they also kept CA open all night but it was restricted certain times for teenagers during Grad Night (maybe not the best plan for 24 hrs, Grad Night, Memorial Day weekend, and a Friday at that!). It was crowded but not crazy the way it was for Leap Day. We knew that it would get packed by 7-8 with people getting out of work and also people wanting to be there overnight. I, a friend, and my 3 and 5 yr olds got there at opening at 6 am and it was smart to do so, waaaay less people and it was pretty empty until about 11-12 noon. My kids are just pure awesome and kept going until 9 pm, we had a 15 hr park marathon, a personal best for us, lol. One of these days we'll make it to WDW to experience the magic of an emptier park when my boys are a little older and can stay up all night. So much fun!

    3. Yeah, there were a ton of reasons why last year was the mess that it was. I missed out on this year, unfortunately - but future 24 hourathons will be done :-)

Jen, if you ever make it out this way again, I know your west coast readers would love a meet up :-)

  26. I will be there but I have an 11:35 dinner reservation but I want to meet you guys so if I get out early or you hang a around for a little while or heck want to come to dinner at the plaza resturant? I hope to meet you there anyway... so if I see you and say hi it is not creey or stalkerish right...

    1. Haha, not to worry; we'll still be around! Just tweet at me, and if nothing else we'll track you down later to say hi.

  27. Wish we could, but we aren't going back until October for the Food and Wine festival...and our honeymoon! :-) Maybe we could meet up with you and John in Epcot again?

  28. I would love to see you both again this trip. Midnight is the same time as the BabyCakesNYC cupcake meet and it's at the Tomorrowland Terrace. I'll do my best to teleport between both, but maybe we can meet at another time on that long, long day.

  29. Cool... my hubby said we would be there :)

Maybe I've had a bit too much wine...

  32. Jealous. I need to get disney passes!!!!!!

  33. I can't be there, but I definitely want to encourage anyone who might be shy to go. I had the chance to meet Jen & John at wdw last year. They are just as awesome in real life as they are online!

    ReplyDelete
  34. [Sigh...] I'd definitely go if I could, but seeing as I live in SC...
Oh, by the way, you still have one more birthday/blog anniversary present coming. I'm sending it as soon as I can (and I would have sent it a lot sooner,) but the Post Office just loves being closed during my free time.

  35. Shenanigans! I didn't know they had a 24-hour day. Damn... I'm only 4 hours away >_> Damn you Miami! T-T

    ReplyDelete
  36. I'm so jealous!! I wish I lived closer than 12 hours away. :(

    ReplyDelete
  37. SO very jealous!! I wish I could have gone for the last 24 hour one too... Oh well. We're going in August, but I doubt you want to be out and about in summer heat with the crowds. But maybe during our December trip? Nothing like Christmastime at the World! One of these trips I will meet you! Do you tweet when you're at the parks or something? I was especially bummed to see that I apparently just missed you as we both took pics of the two girls covered in Duffy stuffed Animals this past January!

  38. If I lived in Florida I would totally be there!

  39. So sad! We won't be at Disney until Sunday and I was so hoping to see the cool cake lady at the Star Wars exhibit or around the park :(

    ReplyDelete
  40. AHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!! WHY DON'T I LIVE IN FLORIDA??

    Oh wait... The humidity...

WHY DON'T YOU LIVE IN CALIFORNIA????

I am dissolving in a neurotic puddle of jealousies...

    ReplyDelete
  41. This is the ONE thing that would make me even remotely think about doing the 24-hour day. Alas, hubby is a CM, so our passes are blocked. *sigh* Enjoy the citrus swirls and the company!!
