I know Christmas is over, but this Rockwell-inspired art tweeted by DeathStarPR made me grin like a scruffy-looking nerf herder:
Ha! This went viral before Christmas, so I had a heckuva time tracking down the artist. Persistence finally paid off, though: It's by Kevin R. Adams, although his website seems to be down right now.
Amy Mebberson - who you may know from her super popular Pocket Princesses - tweeted this in-progress sketch of an extra adorable Minnie Mouse:
Those little hair curls slay me. :)
Cuddly Rigor Mortis (aka Kristin Tercek) ran a sale for New Year's, so I finally bought a print of her "Make Like A Banana" that I've been eying for the past year:
(This one's sold out right now, but check Kristin's shop for more goodies. Most of her prints are $25.)
Oh, and Kristin just did a show at Disneyland's Wonderground gallery last month, and I am positively DROOLING over her Oswald piece:
LOVE.
Sadly these prints are only available at the gallery, though, so I may have to sweet-talk one of you California readers into doing me a solid. [Bambi eyes]
Now, who wants to see a steampunk Batgirl done Art Nouveau style?!
You know, besides me.
Steampunk Batgirl Nouveau, by Luca Maresca
This appears to be part of a set of prints, but I couldn't find any purchasing information. If you speak Italian, hit the link and see if you can find something I couldn't with Google Translate. (And then let me know in the comments if you do!)
[UPDATE: according to a few of you, this *was* part of a set which has completely sold out. Drat. However, Amy found Maresca's art blog, so you can see more of his work there!]
And because we can never have too much Art Nouveau - or too much Labyrinth:
She reminds me of the Babe.
DA member kishokahime has a whole gallery of 80s inspired Nouveau prints like these, and they're all fabulous. She also JUST set up an online store so we can buy prints, which start around $15. If I can just find a free wall in my office, I'll also be wanting these three:
Isn't Lili fantastic? Seriously, we just don't see enough Legend art these days.
I recently discovered Sara Richard's work, and I'm loving her soft, swirly style:
She's also done some fantastic Doctor Who and Rocketeer pieces, though sadly I don't see any of those in her online store.
Jerrod Maryumaya, who ought to be dubbed The King of Cute, made this fantastic Penguin:
Jerrod has a store here, but again, there's no sign of Penguin over there.
Stephanie Buscema's Beetlejuice print makes me want to design a whole nursery around it:
Of course, I'm not having any kids, so...any volunteers? STEP RIGHT UP! (Which, incidentally, is the name of this print.)
Happy commenting!
(I'm guessing it's a licensing thing, but then, that's something that has always confused me with artists, since so many of them DO sell fan art without official permissions. I've had pro artists try to explain it to me in the past, but it always leaves my head spinning. So moving on...)
Stephanie Buscema's Beetlejuice print makes me want to design a whole nursery around it:
Of course, I'm not having any kids, so...any volunteers? STEP RIGHT UP! (Which, incidentally, is the name of this print.)
And finally, since I've managed to accumulate a lot of art over the years that I can either no longer fit on my walls or that never made it there to begin with, I've decided to start giving it away to you guys!
Here's how it'll work: I've made a new Pinterest board, which John has pain-stakingly filled with all the art I currently have to give away. Most are signed prints, but there are also a few original pieces in there. (There are also a few sets, which count as a single piece.) Take a look, and if you see something you want, just leave a comment on this post to enter.
I'll pick a winner at random sometime next week. If I pick your name, then you just tell me which piece of art you want. (No need to tell me now; just when you win.) Easy-peasy! And I'll ship anywhere, so you international peeps feel free to throw your hat in.
I plan to do these give-aways with every art post from now on, so expect them to happen roughly once a month. I'm hoping these will help give my favorite artists a little more exposure, and also help introduce more of you to the joys of great geek art. Plus it will clean out my office closet. See? Win-Win-WIN. ;)
The contest has closed, and the winner is: Toneea W. from Australia!

ReplyDeleteAfter I saw your new pinterest board this evening, I kept bouncing back and forth between epbot and pinterest, hoping for a giveaway. I would love a piece of geeky art from you!
ReplyDeleteThis is awesome! You inspired me to seek out and collect some nerdy art. I have had bare walls for a long time, but now I have a few neat pieces. My style is a lot different from yours, but your stuff is adorable. (Plus, if I won I could just collect it in person because I live in Union Park XD)
ReplyDeleteLove all these Jen, also love the prints by Jasmine Becket-Griffith and Meredith Gillman.
ReplyDeleteI must have the Mike White Wonder Woman My friend's daughter has a brain tumor and Wonder Women is her superhero. She is 2 and has a year of super hardcore chemo ahead of her. They were using a milder chemo but her tumor started to grow so she had a second brain surgery and seems to be doing great.

ReplyDeleteAnd thanks for always being so conscientious when it comes to crediting artists and crafters!
Ahg I love all of these prints! I swear if I didn't have an online bank account to remind me of expenses I have I would spend all my money on random art work and nifty things!!
ReplyDeleteLove all the art nouveau stuff. You find the best art!
ReplyDeleteI love the art nouveau pieces! They are awesome. I have a whole wall full of mucha pictures that I framed.
ReplyDeleteYou are my geeky hero! Thanks for having Epbot so us Geeky Girls can unite!

ReplyDeleteI always love when you do art roundup posts! The Labyrinth and Legend pieces are killing me, they're so gorgeous. There's so many phenomenal artists out there with amazing geeky inspirations. I think it's lovely that you'll be doing giveaways, too! Here's hoping! ^^
ReplyDeleteIve seen those same prints on pintrest before and thought they were amazing, great minds think alike.
ReplyDeleteOh OH! LOOOVE these! Pick me, pick me! ;)
ReplyDeleteSo awesome! My walls are bare. It's embarrassing, really.
ReplyDeleteIt seems like these art pieces should be ceded to a geek girl, so I feel guilty trying to win. However, (HOWEVER!) I see a couple things my mom would love and I have to enter for her. Isn't that what a good son should do?
ReplyDeleteI'm usually just a lurker, albeit a faithful lurker. But I have to surface for this fabulous give-away. I love your art posts!
ReplyDeleteI'm heading to Disneyland at the end of the month if no one steps up before then. I'd be happy to pick something up for you and ship it. :)

ReplyDeleteThese are amazing!! sooo in love with The Labyrinth!!! off to go click every link & discover more geeky goodness!
ReplyDeleteOh Jen! I want one! I might want more than one, but ya know. :)
ReplyDeleteI got one step closer to the Steampunk Batgirl Nouveau Print, but it looks like it was a limited edition collection that was only sold at the one fair in Italy where all the artists attended. Here's the site I found of the project: Drawers
ReplyDeleteWow! You really do have an amazing collection! I'd love to win!
ReplyDeleteI'd so love to win this - I have a slowly growing wall of art that is sorely lacking in geekery (but a part of me really doesn't want to win, because then I'd have to choose - they're all so gorgeous!)
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely swooning over the pieces
ReplyDeletePretties! So many pretties! You've got an amazing eye and great taste.
ReplyDeleteSigh. . So much awesome!!!!!
ReplyDeleteThat Oswald print is adorable, and I fell in love with the Neverending Story "Empress" a few weeks back. Glad to see it reappear and remind me just how sweet she was.
ReplyDeleteAck! Tiny robot! And Sorcerer's Apprentice - my favorite Mickey. :)
ReplyDeleteHappy New Year!
I love the art nouveau pieces but if I were lucky enough to win I would like the 5x5 postcard prints by Camilla D'Errico
ReplyDeleteYou have some really lovely art! You are clearly a person of good taste! :)
ReplyDeleteChances of me winning are probably very slim, but since you have such nice art on offer, I'll take my chances and enter. Nothing ventured, nothing gained. We're moving countries in 2 weeks, and we definitely can still use things to prettify our new appartment!
ReplyDeleteThere are some lovely items on that list who I'd love to give a home to! I think Robot ACEO by Katie Cook is my fave.
ReplyDeleteHey, Jen!
ReplyDeleteI'm actually IN Italy, so I thought I'd take a gander at the link that you posted about Luca Maresco. Wanted to let you know that he has his own blog. The link you posted was to a blog that posts stuff from different artists. Luca's blog address is: http://lucamaresca.blogspot.it/
He has an email address posted there where you can inquire about his art. (Apparently, he was at the comic convention in Lucca this fall and was selling some of his art there).
Another blog that you might be interested in is that of DraWers, which Luca Maresca has been included in. The address for this blog is: http://draw3rs.blogspot.it/
Hope this helps!
Ciao!

ReplyDeleteLove love LOVE art nouveau!!!! And love those ones! I just got myself a shirt with a sailor moon art nouveau on it!
ReplyDeleteAnd your pinterest board is beautiful! I too understand the whole "having more art that places to put it" thing as I have accumulated a fair bit from bartering away my photography to other vendors while selling at art shows. ^_^; But I still have a bit more room and wouldn't mind adding more to my collection.
The Minnie curls killed me too! Hope I win. x

ReplyDeleteSo much great stuff!! Definitely would like a chance to win something! :)
ReplyDeleteMy year of university Italian didn't help me tremendously in the search, but fluency in French enabled me to find what I THINK is the original source for the Steampunk Art Nouveau prints. I managed to find a YouTube channel for an illustrator and designer named Eleonora Dea Nanni. I think she might be your girl: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cahxeAJmQ6k Everything else I found seemed to be in Italian, but Europeans tend to study English in schools, so I'm guessing you could contact her via YouTube (assuming it's her actual account) and either she or one of her followers would be able to respond in English. p.s. I don't remember if I replied or not, but I'm glad you enjoyed the mathematical Christmas tree link. Apologize to John for me. Next year's tree should be fun for him. ;)
ReplyDeleteHow can you give away the cool manga style pictures?!?!! An octopus hat plus butterflies = Awesome!
ReplyDeleteWho wouldn't want to win such pretty things?
ReplyDeleteGorgeous stuff, here! I need more art for my house. I'd love a chance to win some of the stuff you're giving away!

ReplyDeleteOh, I'd love some fun new art for my home!
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness, that Minnie is to die for!! So dang cute! Also loving pretty much that entire pinterest boared...fingers crossed!!

ReplyDeleteI would love a chance to fill my place with another art piece!

Hi Jen, I’m a long time reader, but I don’t comment much.
ReplyDeleteI would be over the moon if I won one of your pieces of art!
And since I'm commenting, thanks for entertaining me with Cake Wrecks and inspiring me with Epbot. I tried to tell you that when I met you at a book signing, but I got tongue tied and said it all wrong. *blush*
I love these, pick me, pick me!!
ReplyDeleteOf course I want to win! Great art!
ReplyDeleteHi Jen! You have so many beautiful pieces of art! I especially love the Fairy set by Meredith Dillman. I adore fae of all kinds and even got my brother to create a D&D-based fairy character for me to play with in his campaigns when I was a tiny geekling. The Beautiful Mermaid by Myka Jelina is also fabulous!
ReplyDeleteYou have an enviable life (even taking into account those things you share about it that aren't at all pleasant) and I love reading about it in your blog.
Studying Art History in college I loved art nouveau more than any other style, so those prints of the 80's icons are absolutely amazing to me. I'd love them all in 3x5" cards framed as a set, wouldn't you? Especially if you could make/find a frame that can do them justice.
I'd love any of the Myka Jelina or Jasmine Beckett-Griffith prints. Beautiful work!
ReplyDeleteMy ten year old daughter and I are squeeing over these!
ReplyDeleteLove the art. Also, the stuff on the pinterest board is gorgeous.
ReplyDeleteOoohhh dangerous. I love the art nouveau prints by Kishokahime, especially the Last Unicorn one! Sadly it said she didn't have anything for sale yet? Thanks once again for helping me waste time ;)
ReplyDeleteSo much pretty! Here and on the pinterest board.
ReplyDeleteYes, please! Although thanks to some of your previous posts plus our own art collecting habits, wall space is at a premium. :>
ReplyDeleteI completely and totally understand about running out of office wall space, but every time you do one of these posts, I want to rush out and buy a million new things. Thanks for being an enabler. :)
ReplyDeleteSarah Nouveau is SO gorgeous! So are the others, but I adore Sarah!
ReplyDeleteWould love to win the giveaway, but how can you stand to give any of them up?!
OMG Jen, I collect fairies, I would love to have any one of those. In fact, I could offer a trade if you were interested :) I know you don't have room, but I have some pretty sweet art I've had for a long time I would be willing to send ya. I can get you a pic in an email shortly, even if you're not interested, I think you'll like looking at them :)
ReplyDeleteNikki T
So much gorgeous artwork :D
ReplyDeleteCan't resist tossing my name in as I really need to start adding to my collection again and even if I'm not selected I've got some ideas on what to get next
As per usual these are all awesome, but I'm still giggling at the banana split- way too cute. :)
ReplyDeleteI'll take any of them!
ReplyDeleteConsider this my entry! Sooooo many pretties!

ReplyDeleteYour tiny Robot original art was just what I needed to make me smile this morning. ADORABLE -> LOVE IT!
ReplyDeleteThis is so awesome of you to share your geek art! I've been wanting to start a collection of my own. (:
ReplyDeleteSaw the art pins last night but not the post til now, LOVE!
ReplyDeleteI love all the geeky art! That Rockwellesque one of the Millennium Falcon makes me giggle every time I see it!
ReplyDeleteThe Batgirl print was part of a Steampunk Nouveau folder,of which only 100 copies were made.
ReplyDeleteSorry to break it to you but it does not look like any more will be printed. At least not according to the website. Ah well, that'll teach me for sitting here, debit card at the ready, itching to blow my tax refund on something artsy. Guess I am back to shopping for shoes again!:(
My friends would absolutely love that Oswald piece - they're both Disney fanatics and have played both Epic Mickeys. Sending the link in case they ever wind up in California :p
ReplyDeleteI was wondering what the pinterest board was... cool idea.
ReplyDeleteOh My God. Legend art! That is my favorite movie. Although most of the time I end up explaining the plot because it seems like no one besides me and you has seen it.
ReplyDelete*Sigh*
I love love love the Camilla D'Errico postcard prints! So pretty!
ReplyDelete
