Jen's Gems 8/3/12

Jessica H. e-mailed to thank me for my geek cred post last week, and mentioned in passing that she recently did a "Super Space Geek Bedroom" for her 4-year-old son. Naturally, I had to check this out.

Behold!!

And, you guys! LOOK AT THE CLOSET!

A glowing Death Star beside a TARDIS closet. Be still, my heart.

Head over to Jessica's blog for lots more great detail shots (I love that nightstand!) and even a tutorial for the TARDIS closet.

Elizabeth J. found the sweetest Star Wars art card for her living room, and I'm especially loving the fact that it only costs two bucks. Check it out:

The back reads, "The mission was to bring down the rebel’s shield generator, not fall in love." Hee! You can get yours at the UglyBaby Etsy store.

You know you've made it in the world when someone uses you as an answer in Draw Something, right?

WOOOHOOO! Thanks, Sarah A.! And great job!

You fellow Dizgeeks are gonna flip for these behind-the-scenes photos of the latest Annie Liebovitz portraits for Disney:

I love stuff like this! (Found via SuperPunch)

And here's the finished version with Jack Black, Will Ferrell, and Jason Segel:

(Is it weird that I like the poses from the candid picture better? Especially for Will and Jason.)

And now, some random hilarity that John made me watch yesterday: a professional actor reading a Yelp review. It's a little strange, but you have to watch the whole 90 seconds - it gets absolutely hysterical by the one minute mark:

:D

  1. Thank you so much for featuring my son's room! What an honor! Now my BIL can't say he was the only one in the family on Epbot (he did the dubstep song in the robot video a few Gems back). :D

  2. Love the Haunted Mansion pic! I agree, the candid poses are better.

  3. I was trying to read your post and then a 3-year-old on my lap said "GO BACK! GO BACK!" I scroll up and he points "It's Doctor Who AND Star Wars!" Thanks for that :)

  4. Okay, the space geek room? Awesome.

And the video, you were so right about the 1 minute mark! LOL That was great.

    Thank you.

  5. I LOVE the Satie music he used for the vid! This was funny - I'm gonna show my hubby this too.

  6. We just decorated our son's nursery in Star Wars theme, but this puts ours to shame! But it does give me some great ideas for future projects. I've been wanting to do something with the exterior door to our garage to make it look like the TARDIS (it's bigger on the inside!) so I will definitely check out her tutorial. Thanks again for sharing the awesomeness in the world. :)

  7. I also like the craggly tree in the background of the candid shot better!

  8. Love the light up Death Star... but THIS is a Space Geek room: https://picasaweb.google.com/111557964908982697789/SpaceRoom?authkey=Gv1sRgCPiA6ojMzpqZfg# :) (It belongs to my three year old son who is obsessed with all things NASA and tells me he wants to be the first person on Mars.)

  9. That shot of the closet - the TARDIS and the Death Star - sums up my entire childhood. Awesome.

  10. @Jessica, I'm loving that nightstand and closet! Great job!

Jen, is Disney remodeling the Haunted Mansion or something? I think I missed the story on that.

  11. @ Marnie - The Haunted Mansion shoot is just part of the on-going Annie Liebovitz/Disney celebrity series. If you haven't seen the other photos, you MUST go google it now! They're fabulous, and so, so fun.

  12. Love the closet ridiculous amounts. Am frantically searching my house for an appropriate closet right. now. When you first mentioned the bedroom redo was for a toddler, I thought "poor kid, his parents forcing geekiness into his life because they are sci fi nerds". How delightful to discover the little tyke is a geek in his own right :)

  13. Wow! I just looked up the celebrity series photos and I am amazed--my favorite is the magic mirror from Snow White. Although Queen Latifah as Ursula is pretty awesome too.:-)

  15. That space room is awesome. And you're right, the Yelp review video was kind of awkward at first, but also really amusing.

Because you & John like cats and cute things: http://pusheen.com/

  16. Ok. So now I know. No more watching YouTube videos posted here during work hours. I think I nearly gave myself an aneurysm trying not to laugh uproariously and almost snorted loudly as a result (very unattractively, I might add.)

    Thanks for the giggles Jen!
