No, I Didn't Fall Overboard

Sorry for the radio silence, guys; my health took a nasty turn this past week, and I'm just now forging my way back into the land of clogged inboxes, funny cakes, and awesomely geektastic steampunkery. (Srsly, how cool is my life?)

I hope you all have had and are having a fantastic holiday break! I also hope to return to my regularly scheduled program of entertaining (read: embarrassing) family anecdotes and crafty geekery very soon, but in the meantime....

Can I please have a pair of these for a late Christmas present? [Bambi eyes] Pleeeeese???

This was filmed by Epbot reader Veronica B.'s mom at the Knoxville Zoo, and you can actually hear Veronica talking in the background. On a side note, I love that you guys think of me when you see something this cute. Over at CW, it's all, "This cake was SO DISGUSTING, I immediately thought of you!" Yeah. Um. Thanks?

Now: can I please have a baby red panda? Or two? I promise to be VERY GOOD this year. :D

  3. They have a panda sanctuary in China. My daughter visited a few years ago and got to hold the baby red pandas. That sounds like a great anniversary trip to me. Maybe you can convince Jon. ;)

  6. sorry to hear you were sick. if it makes you feel better, i was sick with a chest cold/sinus/sore throat/laryngitis from early november to about two weeks ago. yes, that's roughly SIX WEEKS of illness! not fun times at all.

  7. Cuteness Overload!!! So glad you didn't fall overboard, sooo sorry to hear you've been sick. THAT SUCKS! I hope you feel better soon, Jon needs a break. :)

  8. Feel better soon!! We miss you! Just watch the red pandas over and over and you'll feel so warm and fuzzy that you'll get healthy right away.

  9. Dear god, those are the cutest things I've ever seen! I just want to pet their fuzzy little tails, and squish their fuzzy little faces, and rub my nose on their fuzzy little tummies :D.

Also, I hope you're feeling better. Being sick is no fun, especially around the holiday when things are already plenty busy and stressful.

Bonus super cute cthulhu for extra random cheering up :)

  10. I hope you're feeling better now! Also hope your cruise went better this year than it did last year! (Which is to say, "not at all")(:

  11. Jen! I'm so happy you're back! And alive and kickin' as well. :) seriously though it's been rough getting back into the swing of things from all the Christmas festivities without your charmingly witty blog giving me reason to procrastinate. And as long as I'm here I have a question for you: what kinds of music do you listen to? Any specific artists? Forgive me if you've talked about this in a previous post, just curious. Thanks for all you do, here and at CW, and have a happy new year!

  12. These are the same cute little firefoxes that Mozilla Firefox (the Web browser) is sponsoring! You can watch them 24/7 at http://firefoxlive.mozzila.org. Goodness, but they are SOOOOO cute! :D

  13. Awww! Put those baby red pandas on my wish list, too!

Did you catch the Doctor Who Christmas special, yet? I loved the steampunk-y style in the episode (and most everything else about it, too).

    Hope you're feeling better!

On a side note, these are seriously the cutest things! I want one for my very own, and I shall call him Fuzzy and he shall be mine and he shall be my Fuzzy!

  16. My second and third grade class voted on red pandas as our class mascot (the class divided into groups to campaign for different animals as part of a government unit), and that was *before* seeing this video! I'll have to show it to them. Thanks!

    ReplyDelete
  17. They are adorable! The "meet the cubs" video at Firefox's page (http://firefoxlive.mozilla.org/) is wonderful, and has some great snarky comments from the keepers.

"Hi. Could you come over here and be cute? Thanks."

  18. I hope you're feeling well and caught up soon!

I've seen that video through some other cute blogs. That's great that it was shot by an Epbot reader!

  19. i hope you're feeling better now! and i say this as someone who cares, please don't go on any more cruises. bad things seem to happen to you when you do. :(

  20. Glad that you're feeling better, now I can stop obsessively checking the site hoping for an update :-)

I was thinking about you on Monday when I saw the most amazing steampunk chandelier at a restaurant in Buffalo NY. Unfortunately I was unable to get a picture but the entire meal I was thinking "these need to be on EPBOT!"

  21. WOW. They look like a cross between a ferret and a raccoon! Very cute!

  22. Oh no, Jen! Really hope you're improving and not too discouraged after illness. Lots of love. Xxx

  23. hi, this is probably the first preB.A.D. thank you you've gotten but that is what I needed to make me feel better about what I'm doing today( I know what I'm doing because I was assigned yesterday to do something that I dislike very much and I don't want to go to work, but can just think of these cute little guys and see if I can get them on the computor at work??? they restrict sooo many sites and video might not work) sooo, thanks in advance for the little bit of happy/cute to get me through the day. D.

  24. I hope you're feeling better soon, Jen. And, you'll definitely need two red baby pandas so you can watch them chase each other around -- so cute!

    ReplyDelete
  25. That is ADORABLE and I am glad you are not dead (or rather, being forced to lash sea turtles together with your own hair :p), you were starting to worry me about my own cruise

    Feel better though!!

  26. we went to the Knox. Zoo in October. I have to say not the best time to go as alot of things are taken off exhibit for the winter already. But the Baby Red Pandas were certainly the highlight of our trip. They are absolutely adorable. I was going to mention the webcam but I see someone else already has.

  27. *poof* My head just exploded from cuteness overload!! I LOOOOVE these pandas. They give me the warm, fuzzy, super happy feeling every time I see them!! I also enjoy watching them on the firefox webcam... I'm watching them right now as I type this! (and as I was "working" on my grad school research a minute ago lol!) They're guaranteed to cheer you up no matter how much of a funk you may be in! Glad you're back, Jen! Happy New Year : )

  28. Dawwwwwwww!!!!! I made mewling kitty noises throughout that whole adorable clip - quite a feat, considering I have no voice right now. This blog always has the best stuff. Thanks for sharing!

  32. Glad to see you are feeling better. :)

I love those cuties! They look like what a mad with cuteness scientist would have made from foxes, raccoons, and pandas!

    ReplyDelete
  33. Absolutely adorable, yet disconcertingly remind me of Lovey Bears from Futurama. =)

  34. This is 100% the cutest thing ever. Red Panda's are my most favorite.

  35. Don't know what your gig pays but I'm pretty sure you're allowed sick days and vacation just like the rest of us (lucky enough to have them). Hope you feel better soon if not already.

    ReplyDelete
  36. OMIGOD CUTEEEE~!!! I'm sorry you've been sick, really hope you're feeling better! I think of you when I see funny cakes and anything steampunk, geeky, or cute enough to make your head explode. seriously, though. MUST. HUG. PANDA.

    ReplyDelete
  37. I hope that you're feeling better and that your cruise wasn't ruined. That'd be awful...like King Triton is trying to keep you off his seas or something. (Sorry, I'm a HUGE disgeek. :D)

  38. As a medical professional, I suggest that you have rest, fluids, a moderate amount of cake, and a visit to the happy place (zooborns.com, of course!) Also, if you haven't checked in at hyperboleandahalf.blogspot.com you can now find some new cheer. Be well!!

  39. Did you know their names are Ember and Spark? That makes them even more adorable!

  40. Awwwwww, their eyes...OMG I am dying here!!! The pouncing had me squeeing like a little baby!! I need to go the San Diego Zoo stat and see their red pandas and giant pandas!! =)
Glad you're back safe, poo on not feeling well, and Happy New Year!!!!!

  41. The red pandas at the Knoxville Zoo are actually at the center of Mozilla's newest campaign. You can watch them on webcams anytime at firefoxlive.org. Apparently they are the closest thing to an actual firefox. :)

    ReplyDelete
  42. I think you definitely need two of them. One just wouldn't frolic enough.

    ReplyDelete
  43. Those are real animals! They looked like an aimated stuffed thing! Here is another video of cuteness!
    Disclaimer:
No this is not my cat. One of my cats does love a life-like raccoon puppet like his brother (going so far as to dunk him in his food and water bowls and hiss at my other cat if he catches her playing with it), but this is not him. This cat however, will melt your heart.

  44. Yeah! You are back! I missed you a lot. Can't wait to hear about your trip and whatever geekiness you have in store.
And those Pandas! Awwwwwwww!!! So cute and cuddly!

    ReplyDelete
  45. I agree with some other commenters here: watching these adorable things live is so amazing! How easily a vocabulary is reduced to just vowel sounds :) And so much procrastination has come in the form of these red panda cubs! They're just TOO DARN CUTE!

  46. Hope you had a great and relaxing cruise and that you feel better soon.
    These pandas = CUTE.
Best wishes for 2011 and hope you (and all you readers) have a great year. But first, get better!

  49. Saw these at the local Williams Sonoma and immediately thought of this blog (first time commenting, by the way - love your work!). Enjoy:

Perfect blend of Star Wars geekiness and femininity. I would never have guessed to see Darth Vader's head on a commercially made apron. :)

  50. Oh noes, Jen - feel better soon! But, the panda babies are sooo frelling adorable - they're like the cute, fuzzy offspring of kittens and teddy bears!

    ReplyDelete
  51. So I first went to cake wrecks and there was nothing new there. Of course, it's Saturday, the saddest day on the internet. So I headed over to Epbot without feeling too hopeful and yay: a new post. I'm sorry to hear you weren't well. Thank you for the cute pandas. Take care of yourself.

    ReplyDelete
  52. I've never heard of red pandas before! They look like a cross between a teddy bear, a racoon, and a ring-tailed lemur.

Sorry to hear you've also caught one of the bugs going around. Being sick is bad enough, but being sick during the holidays is major suckage.

    ReplyDelete
  53. Hope you're feeling better. Stopping by to wish you a happy new year!

  54. So. Stinking. Cute.

  61. Awe, the red panda exhibit is my son Eli's favorite (we live in Knox too). I took him earlier this week and they didn't have any babies, but one of the larger pandas on display in the glass enclosure jumped up on the window sill and Eli screamed "Dog!" (Everything on four legs is a "dog" to a 16 month old). It's a pretty sweet exhibit.
