A long time ago a hoax video went viral showing a Sleeping Beauty (aka Princess Aurora) in a Disney parade with a dress that changed colors from pink to blue and back again. It was a photoshopped trick, but it fooled a loooooot of people. Anyway, that's what I first thought this next video was, BUT THIS ONE'S REAL:
[wordless screaming]
I first watched it on my phone, and so missed the subtle tells until someone in the comments explained how it was done and I watched it a few more times. Even knowing the secret, I'm super impressed with how smoothly it transitions!
Allsyuon Cosplayer posted the video, btw, but I don't think that's her on stage. Can anyone help ID these two cosplayers so I can credit them?

Jessica Danker of Recyl EARS strikes again with these FABULOUS Muppet Vision 3D ears:
Gonzo! And he has a 3D Waldo danging from overhead!
Jessica makes everything from felt and paints it by hand. Isn't it awesome?
Then there's Jessica's latest Haunted Mansion ears, which are a double-sided masterpiece. She's got a 3D Leota globe on this side:
And the stretching room gargoyle and portraits on the other!
Did I mention it has lights AND sound?
Gah. SO GOOD. Go follow Jessica's FB page for more.

Torrid just launched a new Harry Potter line of clothing & accessories,
and there are some ca-YUTE things here. I don't think I've *ever*
bought any girly geek clothing, but I actually went looking for this
plaid skirt and dress in one of their local stores:
Sadly
the shop here didn't have them, but the dress especially is
calling my name; love that cut and style on the top. I think it's made of that
shiny "rayon spandex" blend, though. Bleh. Have any of you seen it
in person?
Torrid is a
plus-size brand, btw, but they start at size 10, which was smaller than I expected. And even if you don't
fit their sizes, there are some cute purses and scarves and things:
(As always nothing here is sponsored; just sharing stuff I think you guys might like!)

Creative Mom's been killin' it lately with her upcycled soda bottle and paper clay crafts. I'm loving her latest roly-poly creations: a Santa and this glowing snowman:
Her videos are inspiring AND relaxing; I've been watching them before bed this week to help me fall asleep. :)

You guys know I'm a big fan of using puppetry in cosplay (John I used a little in both Junk Lady and the BB-8/Jawa), so I'm THRILLED to see more cosplayers taking it to the next level. Check out Caitlin Carmichael's Lydia Deetz with her pet Sand Worm:
Just a motion test of my little Sandworm and Lydia Deetz cosplay before a convention. This one was so much fun to take out!

Yessss.

If you're like me and go gaga for all things Kawaii, then go follow Disney Food Blog and Dining In Disney on Instagram immediately. They've been sharing pics of their trip to Tokyo for over a week now, from ALL the adorable foods to merch to shots of different theme parks (including Disney, of course!), and I want them to stay there forever now.

Really feeling a lot of these 9 life tips from Tim Minchin:
#7 is one of my guiding principles for this blog, in fact.
(I should mention I take issue with his calling life "meaningless" btw, but he could be saying that tongue-in-cheek.)

And finally, John thought you guys might appreciate this flight attendant's safety talk performance:
That's one way to get people to pay attention. Ha!

Unfortunately the Harry Potter line at Torrid is online only. I ordered the Great Hall dress and have fingers crossed for a good fit. Most of their dress material is fairly comfortable.
ReplyDeleteMost of the Torrid geek girl clothing is online exclusive stuff, so none of the stores carry them. However, the return policy is pretty good :)
ReplyDeleteThat Torrid dress is challis fabric. Torrid's challis is actually pretty nice. Not cheap feeling or polyesterific at all.
ReplyDeleteTorrid is, (or was??? not sure where they stand now) affiliated with Hot Topic. They carry the plus sizes, but usually both companies list the same designs. here is the great hall dress pictured above in XS to their 3X on Hot Topic's site. :)

Heather beat me to it: Torrid and Hot Topic are owned by the same company, so while some of their stuff doesn't cross over (for example, certain pieces of the Outlander collection were only available for plus-sized gals), you can often find a straight-sized equivalent at Hot Topic (or a plus-sized version at Torrid, if you see something at Hot Topic that you like).
ReplyDeleteThat flight attendant just slayed me. Bwahahaha!
ReplyDeleteFrom what I've seen of Minchin, his philosophy seems to be that life has no inherent meaning, so it's up to you to give your life meaning. Dunno if that helps :)
ReplyDeleteThis! What is the meaning of life? Whatever you make it mean!
Deletewhat's the secret to the dress?
ReplyDeleteIt looks to me like there's a top layer that's secured at the side, with one side blue and the other pink. I think the prince grabs the edge of that layer at her side and then she spins, wrapping the fabric around her the oopposite way to reverse which color is facing out, and then the prince reattaches the side piece (probably either with Velcro or maybe a strip of magnets or something?). Her sleeves don't change - just the bodice and skirt.
Deletethank you, Merida Ann, I re-watched it multiple times and could not figure it out
DeleteThat Tim Minchin video was censored. He's a comedian with a definite world view that is part of his comedy. And he most definitely did mean that he thinks life is meaningless, though he also explained how he's a romantic, not a cynic. But someone cut out the things they didn't like and then posted the video as if it was what he had said.
ReplyDeleteThe whole speech is the first 12 minutes of this video:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yoEezZD71sc
I'm OK if people don't re-post videos by people who say things they don't like, but I'm really not OK with censuring a video and then pretending that it's what was actually said. (Not you, whoever posted that cut version on youtube.)
Thanks for posting the link to the full address.
DeleteYeah, Tim himself said that the video was edited without permission- that’s not cool by that company. It would be great to replace the video in the post with the full-length speech.
DeleteAnother great collection, Jen!
Gah, why do stores show things in the headers that aren't available? That capelet coat and that long open drape in the header are soooooo cute, but they aren't listed in the products :( Darn Torrid!
ReplyDeleteThings on Torrid sell out really quickly (especially Harry Potter and Disney stuff) :-\
DeleteHi! I'm Elle! Did you get my e-mail? (Sorry, excitement + anxiety of doing something wrong is a thing.)
ReplyDeleteI bought the Great Hall dress at Hot Topic's cyber Monday sale for I think like twenty bucks, it just showed up.
ReplyDeleteThe fabric is super comfy but sorta think, I could see it wrinkling easy but it isn't see through. It has pockets in the skirt! Get it.
