Jen's Gems: A Harry Potter Wedding, Princess Kimonos, & Adorable Kids Teaching Us Life Lessons

It's been another tragic week here in the States, so I know we all have to dig a little harder to find hope and goodness, light and laughter.
So lemme show you what's been making me smile lately.

First, this Harry Potter wedding has so many magical details:

Not to mention incredible photography!
I like how intricate the centerpieces are:

And one last shot for the sheer WOW WOW WOW factor:
Read all about it (the groom proposed here in Orlando at Diagon Alley!) here at the photographer's site. Found via Thunder Dungeon, which put together a convenient slideshow of all the Potter-themed photos, in case you don't want to comb through everything. (And yes, there's lots more!)

In crafty news, I always love watching Creative Mom's videos, but this month she really blew me away with her Halloween fairy house:

She starts with a plastic bottle, adds foil, wire, and clay, and gets THAT. Seriously incredible - and so fun to watch! (I'm also watching a lot of Bob Ross episodes to fall asleep each night. WHAT.)

***
Diane Quintal's passion is kimonos. She collects vintage ones, and blogs about them over on Kimono Tsuki. But here's where it gets interesting for us Dizgeeks: she just finished a whole kimono series based on the Disney princesses!

Go check out all the magical details here on Diane's blog.

This video is the sweetest thing I've seen in ages. Prepare to smile and maybe cry:

There's a new account over on Instagram that I am completely smitten with: Food Creature Art. It features (with credit, yay!) a huge variety of adorable foods-with-faces, things that just make my heart happy:

I also *may* have purchased my first original art doll because it was featured on this account a little while back. Any guesses? (Hint: it's not one of these.)

And while we're talking Instagram, I should mention one of my newest joys is playing with Instagram Stories, which my friend Darla of Bakingdom finally taught me how to use. I tend to over think everything I post online, so having a temporary place to play with video and post silly stuff or little things about a trip to Disney or even not-so-silly stuff about panic struggles is surprisingly nice.

I promise I try to keep the Hamilton quotes to a minimum.

I also love watching other people's stories, from cosplayers to crafters, which can be a dangerous time suck, heh. SO, if you're on Instagram and haven't tried them out, go watch some Stories!

K gang, what's been making you smile this week? (You know, besides the fact that it's Friday?) Are you working on anything fun this weekend? Find any great new time wasters? Share your links in the comments!

    1. I never got into Snapchat, but even here I've curated the Stories down so I only watch... well, still too many. Ha!

  2. I officially went down the YouTube rabbit hole with that video on the Halloween fairy house! Oh my gosh I so want to try doing that. Sadly, I have to be all adult this weekend and work on cleaning out my mom's house. :(
Oh, and thanks for that most adorable video. I officially put myself on a news fast for a while after the awfulness that was Las Vegas in hopes of preserving some semblance of my sanity. I just mentally couldn't take anymore, and that video was just what I needed.

  3. I've been falling asleep to Bob Ross recently too :) I play it from my phone, which I put under my pillow so I don't get distracted by the visuals, and just listen until I drift off. It's just enough to keep my attention so my brain quiets down, without taking enough focus to keep me awake. Plus his voice is so pleasant.

    1. I kind of do the same, but I have one of those cheap under-the-pillow speakers so I can put the phone on the nightstand (or more likely, flopped over in front of me when I pass out, ha.)

  6. One of my friends requested that I draw a picture of her favorite character and her OC having a food fight with each other, which is totally hilarious since they'll be mostly covered in chocolate brownie batter. Kinda unrelated to your Gems here other than it's making me smile.

  7. Ooh, I have a guess for the art doll - did you buy the candy dreamland turtle? I love the pastel purple and blue.

  8. One of my BFFs and I are doing a Harry Potter themed 5K this weekend! We're not runners (lol) but it gave me an excuse to design us custom Weasley sweater-style shirts, plus I love any excuse for an HP party. :) Thanks for the sunshine!
