I just found another amazingly clever craft shared to the Epbot FB page. Check it out:
Christy N. writes,
"We are planning a surprise Disney trip for our kids, and I wanted my daughter to be able to dress up but not swelter in the warm Florida afternoons. So I made her princess aprons - cooler than a dress, and easy to remove if she gets hot or doesn't want to spill a snack on it."
Seriously, how smart is this? By using tulle for the skirts, Christy made these feather-light and completely breathable, perfect for little ones to wear over shorts or everyday vacation clothes.
Christy added lots of great detail, too. Check out the rhinestones on her Cinderella bodice:
Even the tulle is sparkly!
Christy gathered the tulle at the bottom of the Ariel one to mimic tail fins:
Plus a few more sparkles on the top:
The Anna one is my favorite:
SO PRETTY.
Rapunzel's and Belle's:
And finally, I love the little sleeve caps Christy's Snow White apron!
I hope you guys found these as inspirational as I did! Heck, I almost want to get out the sewing machine - and you guys KNOW how bad I am with sewing. o.O
Thanks for sharing, Christy!
And for the rest of you, please keep showing off your projects and costumes on the Epbot FB page! Even though I can't feature them all, it's fun for me to see what you guys are working on.

ReplyDeletethese are amazing! and so apropos to my frame of mind, as my family just last weekend decided that we are hitting Disneyworld in January of 2018 and I have two nieces, one will be almost 4 and the other will be almost 6 at the time. Of course, I'll need some for myself, too. Better start making them now!
ReplyDeleteThat was a brilliant idea, Christy! Your daughter is going to be thrilled with those! Beautiful work!

DeleteSo creative and cute!! I need to think of something fun like this for my son. He loves dressing up, but it's hard to find something that works for boys. So far he's been really into Disneybounding on our trips, but he's always been bummed that there's so many more fun accessories for girls than there are for boys. Ties and hats, maybe? hmmm...
ReplyDeleteIf he isn't picky about who he dresses up AS, you might consider having him dress like one of the Dapper Dans. Those costumes seem to always get a lot of attention. That might be fun for him. --TAL
DeleteThat's a great idea! He's not terribly picky, but he always likes it if I join in and match him somewhat in his theme. I could come up with something to go with him and that would make him really happy. We've disneybounded as Pooh & Christopher Robin and Nemo & Dory and Dopey & Snow White, but he's always looking for new ways to dress up.
DeleteTweedleDee and TweedleDum?
DeleteThat's another great one! I should have come to the EPBOT community ages ago for ideas for us! :)
DeleteMary Poppins and Bert after they jump into the chalk drawing!
DeleteOh, he'd be super cute as Bert!

DeleteYou could be the Mary Poppins to his Bert...
DeleteOh I just posted about this for little boys. I was thinking maybe vests of some kind.
DeleteA great idea! I can totally see little vests, and maybe even a tie or hat to go with it!
DeleteSo sweet! Loved all the detail work. Thank you so much for sharing this idea Christy!
ReplyDeleteThose are seriously cute and creative! Love this idea. Props to Christy for coming up with it.
ReplyDeleteThat idea is GENIUS!
ReplyDeleteWhat a SUPER cool idea! Now I wish I had some nieces to make some for!
ReplyDeleteI hear my sewing machine calling me!
ReplyDeleteI think Christy just found her road to early retirement. She could make a mint on these things! Oh...if only I could sew (ALWAYS listen to your grandmother - learn a timeless art!) And her daughter is one lucky little ankle-biter.
ReplyDeleteShe doesn't even have to make them herself - she could just sell the patterns as a download!
DeleteOr sell kits....
So many ideas!
Dang it, now my ovaries are all stirred up and wanting a new little girl. I wonder if my cat would be willing to wear one...
ReplyDeleteFabulous! Does she have an Etsy store where she sells these? i'd love to get them for my daughter
ReplyDeleteSuper cute! I'd love to see how they look being worn.
ReplyDeleteOMG! These are adorable! I don't even have kids and I want one of each :) What a gorgeous and unique way to dress up the littles at the park.
ReplyDeleteJust genius!! Both the idea and execution - bravo, Mama!!

ReplyDeleteI would love to buy the patterns to these!!
ReplyDeleteWould you actually be allowed to wear these at a Disney Park? I have heard of that they only allow official Disney characters as played by there own actors and only Disney trademarked products.Basically this lady would be prevented from selling these or having her child wear them to Disney as they are not official, thats is what I have seen reported about EuroDisney anyway.
ReplyDeleteMy understanding is that they're fine with children in the US parks dressing up like characters (I'm sure they'd prefer you buy costumes in-park, but even if you don't, they won't kick you out), but they have some age at which they don't allow it any longer. I'm not sure what that age is, probably at the point where they stop fitting into the licensed apparel.
DeleteI think it's okay for kids up until age 10 if I remember correctly. But I would think those aprons would be okay even on slightly older kids because it's not a full costume. It's more like an accessory that nods to the characters.
DeleteKids up to age 14 can wear anything they want, costume or no. Anyone older than 14 cannot wear a full costume that makes them look like an employee. This means you can't dress in a full Cinderella gown or a full Tower of Terror Bellhop uniform. However, Disneybounding or poofy tutus or an apron like this would be completely allowed, because no one is going to mistake that for an actual employee. I'm in a group that does themed dapper meetups about once a month, and we have not had any issues, even with people wearing full-on Steampunk outfits or an elaborate Cheshire Cat dress or big inflatable wings for a Chernabog Disneybound.
DeleteThank you for the explanations.
DeletePretty smart idea for taking kids to Disney! The kids get the feeling of wearing a costume, but can also wear something underneath it in case they get too hot or they want to go on a water ride, etc. I'd love to see some ideas like this for little boys too! Maybe some character vests they could wear or something like that.
ReplyDeleteCharacter vests for boys is a great idea! I love it!
