Yes, Please! Steampunk Weddings

I've been laying low on the steampunk front because a few weeks ago John told me I was just *way* too steamy. Or maybe that I was talking about it too much. One of the two, anyway.

However, no more! Prepare for the unleashing of my pent-up steampunk obsession, in the form of....[drumroll, please]...

STEAMPUNK WEDDINGS!!

Woohoo!

Stacy and Eric's wedding made the rounds on the 'web last month, but in case you didn't catch it: are those not the best hats? I love Stacy's gown, too:

And don't get me started on my love affair with their invitations:

Anything with a vintage playbill flair to it = instant Jen infatuation.

Their cake will be on Sunday Sweets this week, but you can check it out now at their photographers website, Studio EMP, plus lots more of the wedding goodies.

I'm especially excited about this next wedding, because the bride, Laura M., e-mailed me just two weeks afterward to share some preview pics and tell me all about the steamy goodness. (Have I mentioned recently how awesome you Epbot readers are? You're awesome. There.)

Here are a few of my favorite shots:

Look at the little hats on the bridesmaids! (I also have a thing for hats. Can you tell?)

And get this: the wedding was held in a historic old railway station, which is now a restaurant. Steam and trains? Could that... [Chandler Bing impression] BE any more perfect?

The conductor punched tickets for kiss requests! [squee!]

And look how gorgeous Laura is, coming down the aisle:

Every time I see this picture I grin like a big ol' lovesick fool. EVERY TIME. Love it love it love it.

Now, prepare to swoon over their fabulous table decor:

Gears and gems and clocks, oh my!

For more pics go here, and for lots and lots more pics go here (although you'll have to sign the guest book to view them.) All photos by Terry Clark Photography.

At first glance I didn't realize that Racheal here was the bride:

...but I love all the layers and details of her outfit!

Here's a beautiful shot of her dancing with her new hubby, Daniel:

Such a great space. Don't you love the musicians in the background?

There are a couple of gorgeous steampunk flasks in their photo album:

Groomsmen gifts, perhaps?

It looks like this was a small, intimate wedding, and almost everyone dressed steamy! Here's a neat group shot:

So. Fun. When am I going to get invited to an awesome wedding like this? (And yes, you can all consider that a hint.)

Photos by Sergio Villareal, and thanks to Ali H. for sharing the link!

One thing I love about steampunk: it lets the guys shine as brightly as the girls. I mean, c'mon, just look at these gorgeous groomsmen!
Wowza. That is all.

And here's Matt (the groom) with his lovely bride, Michelle:

Awwwww.

Matt & Michelle had their guests type on an antique typewriter for their guest book (!!), and they used copper pipe candelabras (which Matt made) for their table centerpieces:

Awesome.

For more pics and an interview with Michelle, check out their feature on Offbeat Bride here. Or go straight to their Flickr album here.

And finally, Anthropologie did a lovely steampunked wedding photo shoot earlier this year, with gorgeous results:

Their theme includes lots of glass, light bulbs, and paper flowers. It doesn't so much scream "steampunk" as it does whisper it ever-so-sweetly. Very nice. Check out the full shoot here.

Ok, that's it for me! Here's hoping we see many more weddings like these as steampunk continues to catch on with more "mainstream" audiences. That said, I'm sure there are more out there that I missed, so please share your steamy wedding links in the comments!

UPDATE: Ok, one more "last one." CJ just shared a link to a few of his own steampunk wedding photos in the comments, and I had to share my favorite shot:

[dreamy sigh] Gorgeous. See more at his photographer's site here.

  1. I published a post yesterday lamenting the fact that I don't get invited to these types of weddings.

I think I need to get some cooler friends.

  2. I had a quasi-medieval/Fall Solstice themed wedding when I got married 11 years ago. I didn't know about steampunk then.

    *SOB!!*

    I want a steampunk wedding!!!!

  3. Mind if I add some of our own wedding photos? This was from back in February. Lots of our guests came in costume too, but our photographer only chose a small sample for his site.

  4. Feel free to post about steampunk all you want. Is there such a thing as too much? I loved all those weddings! I think I might want a steampunkish wedding. Now if I could only find a man....

  5. I've been waiting for this post all morning (ever since you let us in on it on facebook), and I'm not disappointed! Well, wait. That's not entirely true. I am disappointed that I'm already married and can't now have a gorgeous steampunk wedding!

  6. Love love love! I'm *so* having a steampunk wedding>333 I can't believe I had never heard of it before Cake Wrecks/Epbot!

  7. DROOL!!!!!!! I loved my Halloween party wedding, but if I had been into Steam Punk when I started my planning, I would have HAD to go that way, so whimsical and fun!

  8. @ Dani - you and me both! I have yet to attend a fabulous themed wedding. *pout*

@ CJ - [gasp] Oooh, I <3 it! I hope you don't mind if I add your link to the post. Just beautiful.

  9. When I renew my vows steampunk style, I'll be sure to send you an invite. Just give me four or five years to convince my husband it's time.

  10. Great. Now I have to start planning another wedding. I'm pretty sure that my husband is going to be confused when I tell him what's going on.

Thank you for feeding my love of steampunk, btw. :)

  11. I plan on eloping if I ever remarry, but I would so do this for a reception.

    ReplyDelete
  12. I love Laura M.'s photo too
(the bride in the rust-colored changeable silk), because she looks like she's got so much happiness inside she could just burst. And I wouldn't have thought I'd love the burgundy-rust and peach colors together, but they're so wonderful with all the vintage metals and textures.
My wedding was small and lowkey, but we did get to be married in the old church in Jamestown and eat cake in Colonial Wmsbg, so I can't complain, even without costumes. And there is NO WAY ON EARTH I'd go through the planning part again. But I too would love to attend a steampunk wedding -- they look like so much fun!

  13. We definitely considered having a typewriter as a guestbook but a couple things held us up:
    1. As a registrar I wanted a register notebook (with a leather cover and acidic papers to drive me crazy as I get older and foxing starts to occur)
    2. The best local source for typewriters is a professor whose class I am barely passing, I want as little contact with him as possible.
    3. Most of my generation do not know how to use a typewriter!

  14. Jen, you may need to change the "girliness" part of your 3G slogan since it seems lots of guys are enjoying the blog, too!

  15. Wow, what incredibly creative, fantastical weddings! Weddings are always sweet, but can be a little cookie-cutter and boring. Not so with these! These steampunk weddings would be the event of a lifetime for all the guests, not just the bride and groom!

Thank you for putting together such an amazing collection!

    ReplyDelete
  16. Thanks for sharing the wonderful steampunk wedding eye candy!

I love how much happiness is shining through in those photos.

    ReplyDelete
  17. X3 Thank you so much for sharing my photos!! *is Laura M*

If we had been friends, TOTALLY would've invited you~

I LOVE seeing Steampunk, so you should post it up all the time! <3

  19. I really want to get married...again. And have a steam punk wedding. That first dress is gorgeous and you could totally wear it again!

  20. I have been doing a TON of steampunk wedding custom orders lately. Weddings have got to be my favorite part of my business, hands down. I love the challenge of incorporating all of the couple's favorite themes and colors.

BTW, I was featured in the Steampunk Sparklies post, and I wanted to let you know that my website has changed. Since MakersMarket is folding, all of my work is now at http://www.Rivkasmom.com

(Sorry if that seems spammy, I just didn't want anyone to go to the old site and wonder what happened.)

  21. OMG, those are the coolest weddings EVAH! I would love to have something like that.

And, don't hold back on the Steampunk goodness.

    ReplyDelete
  22. These are amazing! I think these are possible THE most beautiful wedding pictures/themes I have ever seen!

Hmmm, I am nowhere near getting married but I am now rethinking the whole 'classic' thing and thinking 'steampunk' instead!

Thanks for sharing these! How I love your blogs!

    ReplyDelete
  23. I'm speechless....these are amazing. My daughter says she wants a steampunk wedding; my mantra up until recenty has been "if you'll elope, I'll give you the money I would have spent on a wedding as a downpayment on a house", but I might have to rethink it after seeing all of these.

    Gorgeous!!

    ReplyDelete
  24. @Amy: When I got married nobody even did Medieval weddings, they were all terribly traditional. I would have loved a Medieval wedding. Having said that, I can understand your sadness because I love steampunk too.

@Jen: it's never too steamy or punky for me here, and as you can see by the comments, most people here (except for one sad little Anonymous at 5:57PM) agree.

    ReplyDelete
  25. so classic and beautiful..

i was *just* sitting here wondering how many wonderful steampunk Halloween costumes where adorned this year..
We had two in our group of trick o' treaters alone.. i bet there were heaps- and I equally bet that most of them were spectacular~

    ReplyDelete
  26. So beautiful!! Thanks for such a wonderful post! More, more, more!!!

    ReplyDelete
  27. I would totally get married just to have a wedding like that.
A friend and I are putting together some steampunk Ghostbuster costumes. I hope they look even half this amazing. Siiigh..

    ReplyDelete
  28. Jen, I'm planning on having a steampunk-inspired wedding. It'll be almost 2 years before we get married (late summer\early fall 2012), but I will definitely invite you. At least you can plan ahead...

    ReplyDelete
  29. How funny, on the way home from school I was thinking about looking up some steampunk wedding pics! Perfect timing, Jen! :D

    ReplyDelete
  30. I don't know if you read the comics, Jen, but Halloween's "Luann" strip had the title character going to a costume party as a steampunk chick, and trying to explain steampunk to her dad. I immediately thought of you when I saw it!

    ReplyDelete
  31. I'll make you your very own steampunk hat if you can get people to stop buying those horrible $5 and $10 disposable bowlers and "tophats" that are made in China by costume companies. If you're going to spend money on the costume anyway, why not get a decent hat that you can wear more than once and be proud of! There are so many local milliners out there who could do a better job!

    ReplyDelete
  32. Right now in Cincinnati there is a wedding planner that is working on a steampunk concept wedding - AKA, just a photo shoot with the bride and the space, etc.

I am her assistant, and also the maker of the dress (eep!).

Should you be in Cincinnati around that time (rather, not bloody likely) I'm sure that you would be quite welcome and possibly join the shoot as an extra!

    Hannah

    (I update the dress's progress on thebuescherproject.wordpress.com)

  33. Beautiful photos. I would've loved to have had a wedding like this. Instead, I impersonated a meringue. [Sigh.]

And ignore the steampunk scoffer. There are plenty of boring/ugly blogs out there for her/him to read.

  34. Hey, have you guys seen Riese: Kingdom Falling? It looks like it would be right up your alley:

    http://www.syfy.com/riese/

Web-based show (short episodes) with a steampunk look.

  35. That wedding cake has got to be the most magnificent thing I have ever seen.

I had just got done telling my brother that when my fiance and I get married, it'll likely be at city hall (second marriage for both of us), but these photos, wow!

Although I'm still holding out for him wearing his Dress Blues. He wants to wear a kilt.

    ReplyDelete
  36. You know, since my husband and I eloped 15 years ago, it might be reasonable to consider a 20 year wedding vow renewal party. Steampunked, of course. ; )

And speaking of marriages. . . don't listen to John on this one. BRING ON the steampunk. Never too much.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Jen - do you watch Castle? Awesome Steampunk themed episode a few weeks ago.
I love the idea of Steampunk.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Those are awesome! I looked at Stacy and Eric's photos and the shot of her shoes is also awesome. I have a pair of those in black; they're the "Countess Oliva" Fluevogs (swoon).

    ReplyDelete
  39. There's no such thing as too much Steampunk!

All those photos are absolutely gorgeous!

    ReplyDelete
  40. LOVE this... so inspirational! I was already obsessed but now it maybe over the top and with "Castle" dressing up as a steampunk man in one of the recent episodes I may now have my ideal steam punk man! Mwahaha

    ReplyDelete
  41. So, I know my wedding this summer wasn't exactly steampunk...but my hubby and I did wear Victorian garb and so did some of our guests. Is that close enough?

    Victorian Final Fantasy

I think the only awesome thing missing from her preview shots on the page were our Portal companion cube wedding favor boxes. The hubby & I also like to get crafty together and he bought a KNK Groove-e so that we could make good quality companion cubes that people would want to keep.

    ReplyDelete
  42. I want those flasks! Those are AWESOME! Where do they come from, anyone know?

    ReplyDelete
  43. Luckily I love steampunk and i'm single, so I can indulge in my steampunkery without any backwash from anyone...
Last Saturday at my Farmer's Market booth, my favourite costume for the Halloween sashay past us was a young woman steamed out to prfection as a steampunk vampire..the best and the coolest!

God Seriously what is the fascinations with steam punk. *shakes head*"

Jen can have fascinations and/or blog entries about steampunk or whatever else she likes, because this is HER BLOG. I am not in love with steampunk per se, but I do love looking at the pictures, and I like Jen's enthusiasm regarding all things steampunk.

Here's a suggestion: If you aren't into steampunk or whatever else Jen decides to post on HER BLOG, then skip that day's entry or, better yet, find another blog that is right up your alley. When people post (anonymously, of course!) comments griping about the content of that day's blog post, they just end up looking foolish and troll-ish. I have never understood the 'party-pooper mentality'; that people think they have a right to gripe about the blog OWNER'S choice of subject for THEIR blog entry. Why not just skip that post, or if it is a frequent occurrence, just stop reading the blog in general? Jen posts blog entries on Epbot as a way to talk to her followers about things other than cake. Even though this is a public blog, it is still HER blog, and as such, she has the right to post about whatever she damn well pleases!

No one gave you the right to come and post negative comments. Please leave using the door you came in with.

--A dedicated CW and Epbot reader.

  45. I'm not a steampunk geek - in fact, I didn't even know what it was until I started reading CW and then Epbot. However, I love seeing all your steampunk pictures, and I don't think you do too much of it at all. I love to see a well-executed wedding theme, and these did not disappoint. So fun! Loved this post.

    ReplyDelete
  46. I think what John means is you are way too steamy as in you are HOT! (See, he can't say no to that, because then he'd be saying you aren't hot, which would land him in the doghouse....)
Fabulous pictures. Looking back, I wish we'd had a bit more fun with our wedding, but I was pretty ignorant of all of the options.

    ReplyDelete
  47. As a girly nerd, I just want to thank you for this post. I squeed like some small child over it. Awesome. Guess who has been wanting a steam punk wedding longer than she has been wanting to get married!

  49. Too much steampunk? Is there such a thing?? Surely not! Love these pics!

  50. This link has nothing to do with weddings, but it is steampunk related: steampunk Lego creations!

My son just stumbled across it, and I felt compelled to share. My apologies if it's already been shared. It's no longer active, and it looks like the most recent post was from 2008, but it's new to me, so maybe it'll be new to somebody else, too =).

  51. Found you via Cake Wrecks, which a friend of mine pointed out I needed to go to today (based on her knowledge of my own steampunk obsession). Lovely cakes, lovely weddings, and I can't believe I haven't run across either before! :)

  58. I love this :) I was a bridesmaid at Stacy and Eric's wedding (the first couple you mentioned) and it was easily one of the best, most creative weddings I've ever seen. So many of the guests dressed up too! Thanks for highlighting the other steampunk weddings - I'm gonna go check 'em out!

(you can check out more pix of their wedding here - including a picture of their awesome cake!)
