Don't Techno For an Answer

If you've never watched one of Pogo's music videos, prepare for a treat.

Pogo is a musician who takes sound and video clips from a movie and mashes them together to make beautiful, lounge-y, pop-ish, techno-esque music videos. (Yes, those are technical terms. Which I made up.) The fact that he uses so many Disney movies just makes 'em that much better.

Here's one of my favorites: "Expialidocious:"

And "Upular" will have you dancing about with a grin on your face:

Not Disney, but just as great: "Alohomora"

This one's on my iPod. :)

He also has songs for Toy Story, Sword in the Stone, and lots of other non-Disney stuff like Dexter.

So, if you're ready to lose the rest of your afternoon, go check out Pogo's Youtube channel. Then go to his website, 'cuz get this: most of his songs are *free* to download! (Though sadly none of the Disney ones; apparently he has some legal agreements with the company preventing him.)

I also highly recommend "Splurgenshitter." It's a great original song (even if I can't say the name without giggling), and the video is of Pogo dancing around wearing a Darth Vader helmet. What's not to love?

So guys, which is your favorite?

  6. I have to say the Alice one is my favorite seen here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TQuqeLBTetA

It's the first one I found by Pogo so it holds a special place. Their stuff is so soothing!

  7. Although I agree Splurgenshitter is quite fantastic, I LOVE Wishery. Oh Snow White <3

  8. Um...I'm gonna go with none. Sorry, this has been the only post of yours that annoys me.

  12. I love Expialidocious! It is really great!

  13. LOVE his Alice stuff. Have had it on my mp3 player for a while (well over a year?). I guess I got it before they got beef. Hooray!

  14. I'm absolutely in LOVE and I've only listened to the three you posted! I'm scared to check out his channel - will I ever be able to tear myself away? Thanks so much Jen for sharing something so fantastic - the best part of blogs is being able to introduce and be introduced to things you'd never otherwise experience. :)

  15. Bangarang! no Anna! wait White Magic! But seriously, I don't have a favorite, they are all so good. My husband and I have been following Pogo for over year. I thought the one he did for his mom on Mother's Day (Gardyn) was really touching.

  16. I changed my mind! "Wishery" is wonderful!

  17. Techno isn't among my favorites, but there is one by Ricardo Autobahn The Golden Age of Television that makes me smile, but it's more an upbeat dance number. Give it twenty seconds.

  18. The end part of Alohamora is cool but I really like Mary's Magic from The Secret Garden.

Even though the clip of Maggie Smith eating at a chicken bone is a little bit odd to see over and over. *lol*

  19. My favorite is Upular. I saw it some time ago but don't remember where. When I finally watched the movie "Up", I waited throughout it to hear this song. It wasn't even in the bonuses.
Thank you so much for featuring Pogo. (See, I wasn't crazy; there really was a song)

  20. WOW! Those were wonderful! Of the three you posted, Mary Poppins is my favorite. That movie has so many amazing memories for me--I tend to cry when I watch it because it reminds me a lot of my childhood at my grandparents' house.

I have to work right now, but I'm going to link to him on YouTube and download some of his songs. THANKS for the tip!

  21. OOOO! Bangarang is great! I love the movie Hook.

    Need to work...need to work...

  22. Yesss!! I haven't checked his YouTube channel in a while. Thanks for reminding me. :) Upular is my favorite. Great feature!

  23. I've been a bit obsessed with his "Bangarang" for a while - love "Hook"!

  24. Looooove Upular, it sounds like a Bjork song and I think the only thing that would improve the track would be her voice in a wordless melody. The boy's voice is so naturally musical, I wonder if he can sing.

  25. Loving these so far... reminds me of DJ Earworm

Each year he takes the top 25 songs and mashes them into the one song... it's brilliant! (and free to download from his website too!)

  26. I LOVE these!
Also, this totally reminded me of an old VH1 Commercial
    that I freaking love!

PS this link is not the best quality, but it's the best I could find!
    LOVE your blogs!

  27. Fantastic! Good bye afternoon :)

Mary Poppins and Mary's magic, though I enjoyed HP, Dexter, Willy Wonka... and the rest :P

  28. Oooohhh, Techno, my secret passion! I can't watch these here at work (can't turn the volume up loud enough to truly enjoy) but I will spend the evening enjoying them as my children dance to them (I KNOW they will) and slightly annoying my husband who will wear a smile of bemused tolerance. THANK YOU!

  29. I have to go with Upular. Up, as a film, just makes me so very happy anyway, that this just makes it even better! :)

  30. I agree with Zombie Edward. Just annoying. Better blog next time ;)

  31. I love everything from Pogo! But there's actually something that spawned from Pogo that I think is also absolutely wonderful. It's a cover of Toyz Noize by Alvin Pingol using all real instruments. It's really beautiful!

  32. I ended up listening to his entire YouTube channel on repeat at work today. After I watched every single individual one... some of them twice... (OK I watched Toyz Noize three times in a row) and completely wasted my morning. Now that I'm home, let the downloading commence so that I can listen to Pogo in my car! Thanks for sharing this - I love it! :)

  33. You've absolutely made my day. Also, thanks to your handy-dandy cheat sheet above, I can include the link to a cool acoustic cover that someone did to Toyz Noize: HERE (and in case the my html doesn't work, it's here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=466HE0aMdio)

  34. Alice in Wonderland! It formed half of my dissertation. The other half was on Cyberpunk.

  35. Yes, it's a grown man jumping around on the beach in a too-small Darth Vader mask, but damn if he doesn't look like he's having fun.

  36. I've had Alohamora stuck in my head for the past 2 days, even after checking out Pogo's other works of sound art. I think it's safe to say Alohamora is my absolute favorite. It fills me with all the wonder and delight of the first time I opened up Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone at the age of 10. :)

  37. Sad for those who found this post "annoying". Uninteresting for some perhaps, but annoying? Really?

    ReplyDelete
  38. SO I don't normally comment on your blog, though I am an avid reader, but I have to say thank you for introducing me to these videos! I absolutely LOVE "Wishery" (the Snow White one). I listened to it several times!

    Thanks,
    Tawnia

  39. HOW do we download them to iTunes? Is that possible? Because I LOOOVE this!! Help me!

    ReplyDelete
  40. @ Krantz - download the songs to your desktop, and when you double-click to open them they should automatically open/import to iTunes. Easy-peasy!

    ReplyDelete
  41. AHHHH!!! I LOVE the "Upular" one!!! So catchy, I find myself "needing" to play it several times a day! I didn't actually like the movie all that much, but I might have to give it another try now. Thanks for yet again introducing me to something great, Jen! :)

    WV: "bling"! :)

  42. Sad day! I am unable to download them. :( Is there some hidden trick to it? I click on download and it opens up to another page and I am unable to download it. It talks about Quicktime Pro option and that is it. Anyone else have any luck?

  43. My son and I found these about three days ago, and had a blast listening to them.

I have to say I like the Up one. But, I reserve the right to change my mind after I watch them ALL! :)

  46. I found Pogo when I watched the Youtube presents thing with all those really great videos... "Gardyn" is really beautiful, but I love all his songs, so I can't pick a favorite! Thanks for putting this up, Jen!

  47. Wow, I love these videos. I have now been watching these videos roughly three times a day!
