6 Handcrafted Necklaces I'm Currently Drooling Over

It's been too long since we looked at some drool-worthy art necklaces, gang, so grab your wish-lists and gather 'round!

Starting with:

This Laser-Cut Barn Owl by BirchPlease!

Not only is this absolutely GORGEOUS, it will help you find all your fellow Labyrinth fans. Heck, I'm already singing "It's Only Forever" just looking at this. :D

Next, a teeny hand-sculpted bird in a dome by AliceDufeu:

SO CUTE. You get to choose your bird's color, and whether she comes on a snowy or grassy base.

I'm having a hard time choosing my favorite, but it's between the yellow and teal right now.  I love the bright colors with the green grass!

Speaking of greens, look at this magical "Heart of the Sacred Forest" by MiraCrafts:

She hand-sculpts all the branches and greenery around the gem! There are more shapes and colors in her shop, too.

Back to winged things with this Honey Bee Pendant from Ewing Workshop:

Oh wait, I just realized this is a brooch, not a necklace. No matter! I love the Art Deco feel, and all the different tones in the metal.

I bought a beautiful glass fox necklace from an Etsy seller years ago, and still wear it so often I've been getting asked where it's from. I finally tracked down the shop, only to find it's been closed. But not to worry! Turns out this fox is a common design, and Newell's Jewels's fox pendant looks exactly like mine:

Isn't it gorgeous? I get compliments every time I wear it, and the smooth glass back feels nice against my skin.

And finally, my newest favorite necklace ever:

I don't dive into retail therapy very often, but I admit I bought this around 3AM one night when I was feeling a bit blah. (This was back around my Being Green post.) Just the sight of it made me smile, and that was enough for me!

I'm pleased to report this happy little cloud is even better in person, because A) it's a little bigger than you might expect, B) it weighs practically nothing, and C) the rainbow sounds like tiny chimes when you move it! (You can also order the rainbow in shades of blue, so it looks like raindrops.) You have to intentionally lift & shake it for the chime sound, though, which is nice since I don't like wearing bells or jangly things.

I've worn this 4 days in a row now, and I've discovered it's a perfect fidget toy while I'm writing: I often find myself playing with it when I stop to think. I even bought a second one to send to a friend just now.

I hope these bring you a smile! As always nothing here is sponsored; just sharing some finds that make me happy. If you have a favorite maker you think I should know about, then be sure to link them in the comments, or share with me over on Facebook or Instagram.

And finally, I'll end with a challenge. See this pretty thing here?

KCool Windproof Ashtray

That's made to be an ash tray, but I feel like it's destined for something grander. The top section swivels inward, and it's hollow inside. SO. What else could you use it for? Could I modify it to be something else? All suggestions welcome!

  1. I'd use it for chocolate. But I use everything for chocolate.❤

  2. KCool Windproof Ashtray: better use - floo powder holder in a high net worth wizarding home?

    1. Omigosh, YES. Although John might object to the green glitter I'd want to use, lol.

    2. Do they make that iridescent plastic fake snow in green as well as white? That would be less pervasive than glitter is, I suspect?

... or green pixi stix powder? But I'm not sure how one would serve it in a sanitary fashion.

  3. I love that cloud necklace! How about a secret little nest hidden in the ashtray, maybe for a baby phoenix? Seems appropriate!

  4. Ya know... with all of those Etsy links, and your great social media following... I'm surprised you don't use affiliate links via rstyle.me

    Just a friendly suggestion :-)

    1. Oh geez, you know, I think we signed up for that at some point... and then I completely forgot about it. I should look that up again. :D

  5. Also, the globe is clearly made to hold the button that opens the secret door to my underground lair...

    1. Right? How else is one supposed to enter their cave of awesome?

    2. Just make sure not to mix up the door opening button with the self-destruct button. That would be not good.

    3. "Why do we even HAVE that button?!" :D

  6. Steampunk bingo ball turner thingie

  7. That ashtray is obviously meant to be a paperclip holder. Open it up and dump some into your hand, then the bowl part will hold them as you’re putting your paperwork together, any extras leftover are dumped back into the globe when you close it back up.

    1. Ooooh, I love it, great idea!

    2. I love the paperclip idea and you could totally buy specialty like cats (obvious reasons) and raindrops (to go with your necklace) - Amazon has so many options. It would be so cool ;-)

    3. Ha, just commented below with a link to mine (link). I just stuck a magnet to the top and it works great.

  8. I'm liking the idea of the pretty ashtray on my crafting desk and would probably use it as small garbage can for sewing strings, bits of crafting extras or chocolate wrappers (for the sugar fixes that keep me going). Or maybe just leave the lid off (though its so cute with it) and plant a succulent or some other plant that doesn't need much space or water.

  9. My immediate thought upon seeing the first necklace was Labyrinth and then I quickly remembered that barn owls exist as their own separate entities and felt a little bad.

The Heart of the Sacred Forest necklace is totally something out of Ghibli movie though.

  10. My favorite maker is also a friend of mine. She doesn't do jewelry, but she does skirts (WITH POCKETS), bags, makeup cases, pillow cases, luggage tags, and so on.

    Here's her shop: http://geekgirlscastle.com/

  11. Oh, Epbot. You bring me the loveliest art!

    Thank you.

  12. That globe is screaming for something clockwork inside - open it up and tick tick tick.....I do't think an actual clock, you need to be able to see it working, so opening it needs to trigger the movement.

  13. My friend used the owl necklace for a Harry Potter-bound recently. It makes a great Hedwig!

  14. I was thinking paperclip holder or rubber band holder for the ashtray as well, but Eva and Suki psychically told me it really is a kitty treat holder and should be filled to the brim.

    1. Bahaha! Their mind control extends beyond just me and John, I see. They're leveling up.

  15. Place the holder in an innocuous location in your home. Put a token in the holder that says redeem for a prize from your giveaway stash. It would be interesting to see how many of your visitors look for it if they know about the holder or are "nosy" wonderers. Move it to a different location after friends visit.

    1. OOOOOH, I love the idea of leaving random challenges around the house. Is it weird that would make me want to invite people over more often? :D

    2. Not weird at all!:^}

  16. Is anyone else seeing that windproof ashtray as a Faberge Deathstar? (I'd be tempted to put cat-treats in it and see how long it lasted; my cats are really, really good at opening things!)

    1. Gory! I didn't know you hung out around Epbot! (though I should have guessed :-) )

  17. I added a small magnet to mine and use it as a paperclip holder (click links for pics). Nothing fancy, just stuck a neodymium magnet on the top to grab the clips...tip it upside down when needed, and presto, paperclips. :^D

    Not fancy but it works.

    1. THAT IS BRILLIANT. I wonder if I could do the same thing for bobby pins!

    2. Squee, thanks! Bobby pin holder is inspired...I think I may have to get another one (or two) now.

  18. You are such an enabler--I just ordered 3 necklaces from that last shop!

  19. According to a classic SNL skit: "You keep your WEED in there!"

(Now legal where I live. YMMV.)

  20. That ashtray sphere really reminds me of an enameled puzzle ball, like Twiggy's "Happy Fun-Time Ball" from Critical Role.

  21. I have a couple new favorite items and shops on Etsy. Thanks!

I'm the weird one who would put something totally incongruous in the beautiful and delicate windproof ashtray: tiny edible babies, an Aragog, a heart that beats when you open the lid...

  22. I would use it to put things like buttons, push pins, or loose change if it is big enough.
