I Made The Weirdest Valentine Wreath Ever - But I Love It

I have a hard time letting go of things I've made, so upcycle crafts are my jam. Case in point: our Huffle Plants from our Potter Christmas party:

I made two of these guys, but had no idea what to do with them after the party. They were too big to easily give away here on the blog, but no one at a Thrift shop could possibly understand my vision enough to appreciate them, you know?

Then John mentioned our front door's basket/wreath thing was looking rough, so maybe we should put some fresh flowers in it.

EUREKA.

First I consolidated the two Huffle Plants into the door basket:

... then, for some seasonal flair, I headed to our trusty Dollar Tree.

Yep, thaaaat oughta do it.

Are you ready for this?

Because it's so ridiculous I can't even.

::muffled giggles::

Ok, Ok, I'm good.

Here we go:

Ta-DAAAAAA.

 "KISS ME, SEYMOUR."

  Told you it was ridiculous.

I made the "glasses" out of the plastic heart slinkies:

This glue didn't hold great - it snapped apart when I dropped one -  so you might try superglue instead if you make your own. Then I used poster putty to stick them onto the plants, so they'd be removable. You can just see the white putty if you look close:

I wanted this all removable, of course, because I'm already planning their Easter outfits.

Although I guess I'll need some top hats for St. Patrick's day first...

Anyhoo, I ended up liking this so much that I couldn't bear to put it outside, so it's been facing IN on our front door for over a week now, ha. I guess I'll need something a little less fun for the neighbors to look at.

Oh, and anyone else getting serious Tiki Room vibes here? Like the plants are about to burst into song at any second?

"Innnnnnnnnn the Tiki Tiki Tiki Tiki Tiki Room,
In the Tiki Tiki Tiki Tiki Tiki Room,
It's Valentine's Day,
And the plants love you!
In the Tiki Tiki Tiki Tiki Tiki Room!"

Happy Valentine's Day, peeps. I love y'all, and I hope you find plenty today to make you smile. ::MWAH::

Oh, and thank you for using my Amazon links to shop! (USA, UK, Canada.) It costs you nothing, but helps pay a few bills around here. John and I - and the girls! - really appreciate it.

  4. I feel a little bad for your neighbours for missing out on sooooo much awesomeness. Now, if it was motion-activated and moved and sang songs, I'd find it a little less awesome...and I'd run away screaming...

  9. I love the way your mind works. The only way this could be better is if it WAS motion-sensor activated and started singing...sorry JCY :)

  10. Awesome sauce! I was just in Sydney (Australia, not Nova Scotia) and the Botanical Gardens have a glorious exhibition of All The Carnivorous Plants, and they need this. And YES! Easter bonnets! St Pat's hats! Mayday wreaths! Summer sunhats! We had plans for our giant inflatable dragon along these lines, but it's -40 where we are, so anything outdoors is a non-starter. [-40 is the same in F or C]

  13. These photos made me smile the first time I saw them, and the second time too. They're great, really fun to look at. I hope we see your efforts to give the repurposed plants holiday-appropriate accessories.

  16. Not even halfway through, and I'm like, dude, you need to keep these up all year and just change their outfits for the season! Then Boom! you mentioned their Easter outfits. Perfection.
