This Could Be The Harry Potter Room To End All Harry Potter Rooms, So Let's Steal Their Ideas!

Epbot readers Britney and her husband Sean spent the last five months working on this Harry Potter bedroom, and you guys, I think it's paid off.

Hold on to your sorting hats, Potter heads.

Let's start with the view from the door:

Over the bed are floating candles and a custom painted night sky, complete with fiber optic lighting:

The painting is by their friend and local artist, Spencer Douglas.

I'm going to pan around the room, starting with this wall of wizard portraits.

I love how Britney & Sean made themed vignettes everywhere, like this Death Eater shelf. Sean made the Azkaban prison number sign himself, along with so much more - but I'm getting ahead of myself.

The Potions shelf:

They crafted all of these themselves, using printed labels:

On the wall there are even some of Delores Umbridge's ceramic kitten plates!

:D

Here comes one of my favorite things in the whole room: the owlery!

This was also made by Sean, and I'm totally stealing this idea someday. Such a perfect use of corner space!

On to the other side of room:

Look at Tom Riddle's diary with the Basilisk fang! Sean made those, too.

It's funny how my favorites are everything Sean and Britney made themselves; these two are SO GOOD.

Right, moving further down that wall:

I'm not listing out everything because A) it would take all day, and B) this is the best I Spy game ever, am I right? So I'll just point out a few things here and there, like Luna's cork necklace. (!!)

Gringott's Bank shelf! Complete with the Philosopher's stone and a gold bar, yes.

The little corner desk has some Daily Prophets, and there's a poster and invitation for the Yule Ball.

Down on the floor comes another of my top favorites: the best Mandrake Baby prop I've ever seen!

See the earmuffs on its arm?

Sean bought the foam casting of the Mandrake here (and was kind enough to share his source!), but did all the painting, finishing, and potting himself. And honestly, Sean's looks better than the painted example from the prop maker!

Above the corner desk are winged keys and more custom Potterverse books - more DIYs by Sean & Britney.

This little vignette is especially heart-crushing:
That's the crystal shell Dumbledore drinks from, plus the Horcrux locket he and Harry recover from the well.  ::sniffle::

Down below in the bookcase display is the Triwizard Tournament shelf:

They even have the little bag of dragons! AAA! And the burned bits of paper the Goblet of Fire spits out!

Also down there are (I believe) every single kind of candy sold at HoneyDukes, and every toy from Weasleys' Wizard Wheezes.

There's more than this, but I'll just include these two cubbies for examples.

Sean and Britney, I'm afraid to ask what your decorating budget was for this room. :D :D :D

If your jaw hasn't hit the keyboard yet, wait'll you see the custom Pensieve Sean made for Britney on their 16th wedding anniversary:

The wand has a magnet in the tip, and each tiny vial has a magnet in the base, so you can do this:

Inside each vial is a memory of their life together, illustrated with cute little drawings. SO SWEET.

And full credit where its due: Sean tells me he got the idea from Matt's DIY pensieve here on Bored Panda.

Of course there's an awesome Monster Book of Monsters. OF COURSE THERE IS. (Hnnnnnnng)

One last section for their Quidditch posters, broom, and robes:

And that's ALMOST everything. To be honest, I skipped a few detail shots because there are SO MANY, but if you'd like to see all 70+ photos of the room go check out Sean's Facebook album here. Not to mention, they're still making a few more things to add!

Hope you guys enjoyed, and are inspired to do or make something magical in your own house now! I know I've spotted a few ideas I'm totally swiping for our Christmas party this year. :D

  1. I always love when people do themed rooms like this filled with so much stuff. With that said, I always die a little inside thinking of the maintenance and how long it's gonna take to dust all that stuff every month.

  2. Oh my goodness! This MADE my week! I've been debating going all out for my 35th birthday (I turn 34 in two week :P) and having a HP party. I've got the Pinterest board, so many lists on my phone and 'I think' enough time to do it properly. But THIS ROOM has just upped the game in such a big, fantastic way!! LOVE IT. Love all of it! Thank you Sean and Britney for the unlimited inspiration. And to Jen, of course, for helping spread the HP love.

  4. We're up to The Order of the Phoenix book reading in my house with the kiddables, and I couldn't help thinking of your party when we read the chapter focused on St. Mungo's Hospital for Magical Maladies and Injuries. When the folks in the waiting room are described (jinxes gone wrong, etc), I thought it could be seriously fun to have your wizarding party be a study in "what not to do." So, the guests would be from the Harry Potter world, but patients at St. Mungo's. I don't know, elephant trunk noses and chest arms and bubble-tastic boils sounds like a fun turn-it-on-its-head.

  5. I bet they had a very large decorating budget, I see a bunch of authentic replicas placed around the room. For example the Ravenclaw diadem and Slughorn's hourglass are Noble collection replicas and those are not cheap! They did such an amazing job! I really am super envious of the person who gets to spend time in this room.

    1. Thanks for the kind words. Everyone keeps asking me the budget. I am not sure what it was because this is a collection I have been putting together for 4 years. A little at a time is pretty easy.

  6. I love the horcrux shelf! And how they used the glasses to represent Harry-as-a-horcrux! I'm making grabby hands.

  8. Budget? What's a budget? ;) Thank you for the feature, Jen! We LOVE our room and how it turned out. I'm a little afraid of all of the dusting as well, but a layer of dust will just make it look more authentic, right? RIGHT? We're happy to answer any questions anyone may have. I'm lurking around the FoE Facebook group, so you can find me there. Thank you for all of the kind comments!

    1. Is this amazing place a guest bedroom or one that is in daily use? I'm afraid that any guest might not leave!

    2. It is a guest bedroom. We've only had one official guest stay in it so far, but the list of people who want to stay in it is growing every day! At this rate, we're going to have guests staying with us until next summer!

  11. I've got to say that this room is AWESOME!!! I was tickled when I spotted Slughorn's wand on the potions shelf. My youngest daughter has that wand because... slugs. She loves them! The Pensieve is brilliant - what a great idea in which to store cherished memories! The last photo of the Quiddich broom and robes reminds me of when we went to Universal last year. I caught a trio of college-aged guys walking around wearing robes, caps, and carrying brooms. It was perhaps the coolest thing I've ever seen. :)
