COMING SOON...

That's right, my friends; the end of my self-imposed sabbatical... IS NIGH.

[And there was MUCH rejoicing... I hope?]

This post is not my official return, but I wanted to check in to assure you all that I am well - very, very well, in fact - and this little break has been everything I'd hoped for and more.

John and I have used this time to take on some monster projects, so I've actually been busier than ever during my "down time" - but in a good way. I'm looking forward to showing you all our accomplishments, along with step-by-step DIY tutorials for a few of the ones I'm most proud of.

It's been my unofficial goal to resume posting here in time for Dragon Con, assuming I was ready and finished with everything I wanted to do, and so far we're right on track. I hope to debut my finished costume (which I am frantically working on now) within the next two weeks, just before DC, and you can expect my usual marathon posts during and after the con with all my official coverage. (Who's excited? THIS GIRL.) After that, at the beginning of next month, I'm hoping life and posting here on Epbot will be back to normal - only better.

Thank you all for being so patient and supportive during my time away. I admit I haven't read your comments on my last post yet, and I've been completely ignoring e-mail (sorry!) - but from the snippets I've seen over on Cake Wrecks and Facebook and Twitter, I'm going to be a sobby sob-fest when I go catch up. Between those and the snail-mailed notes and little surprise gifts and the occasional e-mail John makes me read, I've been reminded many times these past weeks why the Epbot community has been my joy and passion online from the start, and that I could never stay away for long.

SO, just a little while longer, k? And then we're gonna par-TAY. Promise. ;)

'Til then,

- Jen

Get Burned Out again, so know that we will always be here for you, even if you have to take some breaks every now and then. <3 Also, can't wait to see your costume!

  13. summer VACATION! (that's how I looked at it)
Remember. You are not obligated to us, but to yourself. Do this not because we demand it, but because it pleases you and is good for you.

  14. I am REJOICING!! Many much rejoicing. I check Cake Wrecks and Epbot every Monday morning, and it's just not the same without any new geeky costumes and pictures and projects. It just starts my week off right!

Welcome back Jen! We missed you :)

  16. While I'm so, so, so glad that you're going to be back soon, I think it's entirely alright if you start taking yearly (aka, once a year) sabbaticals for a few weeks from the internet. Everyone needs time to recharge, unplug, and rub furiously at their eyeballs to maintain sight.
We love you bunches Jen, please do what it takes to maintain your sanity - for us!

  17. Glad to hear that you are well. Seeing this post brought me so much joy on a gloomy Monday. Can't wait to see what you have been accomplishing. Thank you for setting an example and reminding us that we need to take care of ourselves and set some boundaries sometimes. -BigDfromthe313

  23. Much rejoicing! I knew that Epbot added some joy and loveliness to my life by being almost the only positive, affirming place I ever see on the internet, but you know what they say about not knowing what you've got... I'm glad the sabbatical has been a recharger for you. Welcome back almost!

  35. YAY! Looking forward to your new stuff.

Just Saturday one of my daughter's friends was looking for some boots to borrow to go with her new cosplay costume. Then I opened my big mouth and offered to sew her some boot covers to make her other shoes into boots for the costume. She also needs some straps for over her bodice...some anime character that I haven't heard of. But I reminded her that she has friends with mad skills. ;)

It also helps a lot that I just got both of my sewing machines tuned up so they're ready to go. My daughter is excited. :D

I feel I should add that I attended my first big convention last Saturday, and your cosplayer advice and general awesomeness helped me both to decide to go and to have the best time possible once I was there. Thank you so much for everything, and keep being awesome! <3

  39. YEAH Jen! I am rejoicing and crying happy tears to see you back! I wanted to give you your space and not bug you although I really, really wanted to send you an email every stinking day letting you know I was thinking about you! Not telling you to hurry back or anything, just letting you know you were thought of daily! Love you and I'm so glad you've had a good break!

  44. I'm so glad to hear that your sabbatical was a success. I've missed your posts here, but you are much more important than my need to see pretty pictures of your awesome projects. I am, however, looking forward to seeing more of those pretty pictures!

  47. Huzzah! You've returned (sort-of!) Don't stress about doing things for the masses if you aren't up to it, but I, speaking as one voice in the crowd of awed plebeians, am ecstatic you're coming back soon. I'm glad to know that you're feeling/doing better. Your health and sanity is important to me.

  49. We will still be here, even if you stay away as long as Allie Brosh did. Ok, well, maybe not QUITE as long, seeing that Allie has won the internet, and so we HAVE to wait for her, because she's now our leader and all. But you're a close second!

    ReplyDelete
  52. That's fantastic you're returning, Jen! :D I don't blame you for taking a break from most places on the Internet because I seem to see too many catty people on sites that used to be peaceful and sometimes it's best to stay away from them when the negativity is overwhelming and just focus on positive cheerful things for a while.

    ReplyDelete
  53. This may be the pregnancy hormones, but I am literally crying I am so happy! Jen, I'm so glad you took that time for yourself! And please, don't feel pressured to come back right away! But, of course, I am Bed, Bath, and Beyond excited that you're coming back!!! We have missed you so much, and we are so excited to see you well again!

    Much love,
    Sabs

    ReplyDelete
  86. I am very happy to read that you are doing better! That is most important after all. Cause while I would be ever so sad if you weren't able to continue posting here and there, I would totally understand (and cry). So I say again that I am so HAPPY that the break has helped!! I can't WAIT to see your new costume! I really, really wish that I was creative so that I could make my own costume to cosplay. I am REALLY hoping to go the Chicago convention next year with my niece (it would be her first con and while technically my second, it would be closer to saying my first also, since I was only able to pop into a Star Trek con in Vegas for 1-2 hours several years ago) and wow was that a long time to go without using a period! Sorry! And this is why I don't blog. Well, that and the fact that I'm not all the interesting!!

Uhhhhhhhhhh....I think I got off on a tangent, when all I wanted to do was let you know how much you are loved. So....yeah. You are. ;)

  125. So glad things are positive! :D I also needed to take a break this summer for my mental health (I'm a teacher in an isolated community), and finally got to see people who *like* me this past month! Also very proud to say that I'm going to my first con in two weeks! Squee! In no small part to the posts you have written about them. I have a safe person with me, a brief photo-op scheduled, and plan on bringing lots of water and snacks. Thank-you for taking care of yourself, and reminding some of us that we need to do that too - and that it's a positive thing!

All the best, keep enjoying your time as long as, and whenever, you need to.

  132. Thank goodness, I was suffering withdrawal. I thought 'surely after a month she'll be back (and don't call me Shirley)', but you weren't. Every now and then I'd see you pin something on Pinterest and think 'She's still out there!' Really glad you're coming back soon!

  133. There is rejoicing here like you would not believe!!!

I am so glad that your time away was everything that you wanted it to be, but I am SO glad you are back

(not that I have been checking back here every day or anything... um.. no... that wasn't me...)

  136. AND THE LORD DID GRIN. And they did feast upon the lambs and sloths, and carp and anchovies, and orangutans and breakfast cereals...

I'll start the grill if you bring the sloths!

Sounds like you have enjoyed your well-deserved break. Can't wait to see your cosplay!

  137. YaaaaaY!! I didn't realize how much your online presences brightens my day! And I'm not just saying that it's because you crack me up (you do), or because you are a fantastic blogger (you are); I think it's because you are so honest and genuine in your posts I feel like I am getting a letter from a dear friend. Sometimes they are interesting, or funny, or inspiring, and sometimes they are just a quick note to let us know you're still there and doing well; I love and appreciate that. So. I am probably entirely too excited to know you'll be back soon. I am super happy that the break recharged and refreshed you because what I love about Epbot is knowing you love doing it and you are sharing because you *want* to and not because you *have* to. <3

Also? I am totally bummed that we live on opposite sides of the country and that I let my anxieties keep me from going to the Portland stop of you book tour. Maybe one day I'll make it to Disney World and I'll run into you. Though I'll probably recognize John first since I've seen way more photos of him. =) Unless you are dressed as Lady Vadore.. :D

Excited to see the D*C, and new project pictures!

  138. I am very glad to hear your break has been so good for you. You are totally entitled to do things for yourself sometimes. That being said, I'm glad to hear you'll be back to us soon. I've missed reading this blog with all its geekery and such.

    ReplyDelete
  139. YaY! I can't wait...well I can, and I will, but I'm just SO EXCITED! I'm glad that you were able to recharge and get things done, as many others have said, we all need that sometimes. I look forward to all of your posts, I've always enjoyed reading Epbot. :-)

    ReplyDelete
  140. Well of course we're excited. Mostly to know you are doing well.

  141. Yay :)
This definitely made my day. Glad to have your sunny self back and to see posts again. But don't burn yourself out - if you ever need to disappear again, you have support!

  142. Jen,

I'm really glad your sabbatical worked well for you, and I'm REALLY glad you've decided to return to Epbot (on a totally selfish level, of course)!!!! Looking forward to your DC, DIY, and other "acronym" posts to follow ;) .

Yes, there is much rejoicing in Epbot-Land, of that I have no doubt!

    ReplyDelete
  143. Welcome "home," Jen! I'm so glad you're back and can't wait to read all that you have in store for us. Great to hear your vacation was just what you needed. (Perhaps the occasional, planned, mini sabbatical would be helpful from here on out?) I hope you got some reading done while you were away...I always enjoy your book reviews!

    ReplyDelete
  144. HOORAY! Seriously ecstatic rejoicing going on over here, and I am so happy that your downtime was just what you needed! Sometimes we all need a mental vacation :)

    ReplyDelete
  145. So glad you are coming back but even more glad that you took a much needed vacation and are feeling refreshed!

  146. "The end is near!"

    "...Of my hiatus!"
    Oh, thank god!

    ReplyDelete
  147. BTW, while still glad to see you back - a little food for thought: http://www.tlnt.com/2013/08/12/see-you-in-a-month-why-americans-need-to-get-serious-about-vacations/#.Ugk5laS-OjQ.twitter

You could schedule a regular hiatus - a lot of bloggers do that...

    ReplyDelete
  148. And there was much rejoicing! (yay) And they were forced to eat Robin's minstrels (yay)

Glad the sabbatical served its purpose, and that you are feeling better and got lots done! I need to take one of those myself. I can't wait to see your D*C costume and all the other projects :)

  149. Yeah!!!! So glad you had a rest and that it did you well. I am excited for you to read all the love note you have. It's your own Wonder Woman moment. You have no idea how much we have missed you. I am so excited to see what amazing, creative things are ahead.

  150. so glad to hear you're doing well! can't wait to see more regular posts from you, you have been missed!

  151. Jen, thanks for the update & glad to hear you'll be back to Epbot. It's one of the few blogs I read with any regularity and I have always enjoyed the authenticity it expresses. Maybe you just need to build in a few vacation periods through the year instead of letting things get too overwhelming!

Several years ago I had a style blog I was following and the posts just suddenly stopped, somewhat in the middle of an ongoing series, with no explanation ever posted by the blogger - it still haunts me enough that to this day I wonder what happened to her or in her life that no one ever put any kind of explanation up. Almost every other blog that has been ended has some kind of message to the readers, and your earlier message about needing to take a break and now this update shows you respect the connection.

And I'm looking forward for more of your amazing creativity and girly geekiness - the world can't have too much of either.

  153. Thank you for being so respectful of your readers. I'm glad you took the time to regroup and recharge. I'm looking forward to catching up with all of your recent craftiness as well as seeing how much good "we" (and that's a ginormous, collective Epbot "we") can do to further the cause of keeping geek girls of all sizes and shapes and ages and persuasions happy and healthy and proud of who they are. It's good to hear you sound so happy :)

  154. And there was much rejoicing, dancing in the streets, and....oh wait. That was last night's dream :) SO glad to hear your break has been all you hoped for and I am eagerly awaiting the reveal of your new costume.

    ReplyDelete
  155. It's great to have you back! There has been a little less warmth and geek love on the internet since you've been gone :)

  156. Jen, All any of us that care about you wanted was for you to feel better. :D If you had to terminate this blog for your mental health, there would have been much (resigned) wailing and gnashing of teeth-- but anyone that gave a d@mn would have preferred it to causing you pain. You give us Joy in little glittery, shiny bits-- the people that put those ugly, s'nasty comments down are ugly, s'snasty people that live to cause pain. I'm sorry the internet has a bunch of those people; but your peeps Love you and want you to be Happy.

  171. Yay!!! I am so happy you're coming back! I found this blog about a year and a half ago and in that time, I've learned to revel in my geekiness. I even went to my very first sci-fi convention this past February, something I've wanted to do for many years but my social anxiety has kept me from. It was AMAZING. You are doing good things here, Jen; it will be a happy day welcoming you back. :)

  177. majQa'! I had been checking here everyday, just in case, and as I clicked this time I said out loud "Well, she won't be back yet, but I still gotta-- SWEET MOTHER OF BOWIE! SHE'S BACK!"

Girl, July was WAY weird for those of us with any kind of Brain Weirdness; not only did already weird people weird out pretty hard all month (including me), people who'd never shown the slightest tendency towards weirdness freaked OUT, it was weird. As me Irish ancestors would say, I'm glad to see the back o' July, I am!

And I was serious in my CW post; if you thought you'd get away with doing that awesome White Rabbit costume and NOT showing us any pictures, you're crazier than you think. There are those who would avenge my costuming wrath...and some of them are Vulcans. <<>;) <---winky Klingon

For real, the hell with those haters. Come on back to us!

    1. Oh, I forgot to tell you (almost posted it on CW earlier, because of the TARDIS cake); ELEVEN DOCTORS COSTUME UPDATE! Most of it has come together, though I still need my Fourth scarf and my Tenth Chucks (the most expensive bits of the costume). Will be carrying MANY props in my Ninth trenchcoat pockets, including Jelly Babies, Jammy Dodgers, a cricket ball (Fifth), a recorder (Second) and a set of spoons (Seventh) to play. No matter who your favourite Doctor is, he will be well represented!

Can't wait for your D*C costume pics!
