So one night at the movies, we passed a bubblegum machine with rings. I made my fiancee stop and buy me one -the first try he got a gold ring with a red stone :) 25cents -not bad :) I still have it 9 years later, though it's broken and the gold paint has flaked off.

Our wedding rings are fairly traditional, but when I got pregnant, my ring wouldn't fit anymore. So I made him find another ring machine (they're hard to find in our city) and this time it took him $1.25 to find one he thought I'd like. It was a plain metal band painted gold with a small green plastic stone in it. eventually the stone fell out, but I still have the band in my jewelry box.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1724594058209899258.post-17610658076662327552010-09-15T23:25:53.252-04:002010-09-15T23:25:53.252-04:00I had the idea a couple weeks ago to get magnetic ...I had the idea a couple weeks ago to get magnetic rings for my boyfriend and I, but as we both work with computers for our jobs, it's not very practical and potentially quite dangerous! :)

Still looking for something geeky and sweet enough to propose to him with :)Dianahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02734727659177042173noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1724594058209899258.post-41505634568828560332010-09-09T19:11:41.032-04:002010-09-09T19:11:41.032-04:00We have tungsten rings that we had engraved with N...We have tungsten rings that we had engraved with Norse runes selected for their individual meanings (done in one of the Tolkien fonts just 'cause they looked cooler). He was in the Air Force Academy when we started dating, so he only got about three weeks at home, and then he had to go to a base somewhere for experience. The year after we started dating, it was in San Francisco, where he found me a really simple, handmade silver ring. It's two strands of silver woven around each other. That's my actual wedding ring, and it's the first ring I've ever had that didn't make me itch. Until I read all these, I didn't know metal allergies were so common!

My engagement ring (which fits against the wedding ring like it was made for it) is a claddagh with a sapphire for the heart, and it is white gold. It has fallen off a few times, but it always comes back to me. The problem is, my hands change sizes rather dramatically by temperature, and get cold easily, so a simple resizing won't work. All these comments have given me ideas about alternatives for travelling and other times where I wouldn't want to lose the important ones.Tindinoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1724594058209899258.post-48438608851565720802010-08-31T17:56:26.508-04:002010-08-31T17:56:26.508-04:00When my husband and I married, we knew we wanted C...When my husband and I married, we knew we wanted Celtic knotwork bands, but you could only find them in sterling (believe me, we went to every Ren Faire withing 400 miles looking) and we wanted gold. So, we found a jeweler with an online presence (not so common then) who was willing to custom design and cast our rings. I wanted amethyst instead of diamond, so that it would match my promise ring. I told the jeweler what shade of purple, what shape, what size, etc, he sent back a pic of the stone he found to match my specs and his design to work the stone into a knotwork pattern, and we went from there. Start to finish, it took less than a month and cost less than $500 for a gold engagement ring with a large amethyst and 2 matching wedding bands. I've been married 10 years, and I still have strangers commenting on my rings all the time! The jeweler's still around, though their prices have gone up with the price of gold. They also do runic and spiritual designs. The total cost was fifty cents. Almost thirty years later they are still married happily. I liked that family tradition. I had seen a grandmother unintentionally scratch her granddaughter in a grocery store with her diamond ring and that turned me off of diamonds. When my future husband and I started dating, I let him know, that I wanted to make our own rings too. It took him all of five minutes to figure out that he would not need to save up for a grand engagement ring . . . so there was no reason to wait to ask! We only dated for five minutes before becoming engaged. I made his ring, and he made mine. The designs are meaningful both of our commitment to God and to each other. Total price tag: seven dollars.
