My little starving-stray-turned-house-panther, a short-haired Tortoiseshell who MIGHT have tipped the scales at six pounds at her largest, started out as Seven (of Nine...Lives...). She was also, at varying times, known as Itty Fitty, The Evil Cat-Beast, Fittens, House Panther, Fuzzbutt, and Stinkpot, in addition to a couple that I don't repeat in polite company. The name she came-when-called-to was Itty Fitty (but only when called in a voice like Schmoo). His parents bought the cat for him when he was a teenager and his older brothers left home, so that he wouldn't be lonely :D Once they had Russian visitors to the house who informed them that Suki in Russian means, essentially, "b*tches". Apparently the previous tenants had multiple pets; fleas had infested the carpet in the bedroom (I didn’t realize this until I noticed I kept getting itchy bites on my ankles while I was doing work at my desk and someone I knew looked at my legs and said, “You’ve got fleas.”) I don’t know how anyone here feels about bug bombs, but I bought some and set one off in every room in the apartment, and that took care of the flea problem. You do have to be careful, however - I had to cover everything up and be out of the apartment for several hours. (This would involve taking the kittehs elsewhere are well.) I also washed all my dishes and glasses and utensils afterwards (even though they were in drawers and cabinets) just to be safe. It also perfectly fits my Kitteh #4 (Berenice Kitteh). She is a mini Maine Coon cat (no, she wasn’t bred to be small or anything, she just didn’t grow as large as most Maine Coons are). But she is MUCH floofier than my other two cats (Annabel Lee and Ligeia).

I wonder if Eva has some Siamese cat in her heritage? She looks a lot like my former Kitteh #1 (Lenore, RIP) and my current Kitteh #2 (Annabel Lee). They were/are both black cats with green eyes. I know for sure that Lenore was half pure-bred blue point Siamese. One of my partner’s neighbours bred Siamese cats and a tomcat jumped their fence one night. They gave the litter away to their friends and family. We got Annabel Lee from a shelter, but my partner swears that she looks like she has some applehead Siamese in her. Apparently when Siamese cats mate with other breeds of cats, the kittens have a high probability of having black fur. Also, their ears tend to be a little larger than those of other cat breeds - like Eva’s are. And they are VERY “talky” - my Lenore-kitteh was *always* meowing at me and Annabel Lee has a very quiet meow, but she “talks” a LOT (especially whenever she can see the bottom of her food bowl!).

I personally love black cats and am sorry there are so many superstitions about them that can keep them from being adopted. (Berenice, my Maine Coon cat, is also pure black.) And the black/white contrast in your photos of your kittehs is wonderful! :) Jaimehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04295823449665683014noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1724594058209899258.post-8369229151253975332018-06-21T10:52:06.723-04:002018-06-21T10:52:06.723-04:00Is it just me or does just bathed Suki look a bit ...Is it just me or does just bathed Suki look a bit like Falcor?imspiffiernoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1724594058209899258.post-79947513606386852512018-06-21T00:59:49.521-04:002018-06-21T00:59:49.521-04:00My brother usually adds a random word to his cats ...My brother usually adds a random word to his cats name. Fleas jump to get to the light and fall into the water and drown. I googled this method and found a website that recommends this:

How To Make The DIY Flea Trap (Two Simple Steps)
Here is the exact trap that has worked very well for me in the past. It may look too simplistic but I have had great results and I am sure that you will as well! The best part? You can have about 10 of these up and running within about 10 minutes as I suggested earlier! The only expense is the purchase of a couple battery operated tea light candles. You will need one per trap that you make but since you can usually grab about a dozen of these for a couple bucks at your nearest grocery store, this will hardly break the bank. ;)

STEP 1: Fill a couple bowls with water and mix a two tablespoons of dish soap into each one. Dawn dish soap is a great flea killer, and it will get rid of them in minutes. You will need one bowl per flea trap. The best type to use is ones that are fairly wide with low sides as this gives a higher chance to catch a leaping flea. I have had a few readers suggest the use of large plates or pie dishes and I am happy to say that after trying it, this works very well! (Thanks Andrew!)

STEP 2: After mixing the soap into the water, carefully place a single battery operated tea light candle into each one, place it in areas where you are having the highest concentration of fleas. Simply repeat this process for a number of other traps and place them in key areas. This entire process should take you about 60 seconds per trap, making it one the fastest methods for combating fleas!

Flea Trap Intro ImageAs previously mentioned, since you want fleas to be drawn to the trap, its best to put them in place before you go to bed at night. Once the lights are out, they will be a shining beacon of death for those pests. After some reader feedback, I have been told that this trap isn’t as unique as I thought it was but regardless, it’s the one that I have used for the past couple years with excellent results so it has my stamp of approval. Please also remember to empty the water in each trap in the morning to keep things hygienic, you definitely don’t want your pet drinking from this water! ;) Combine this with a decent flea treatment for your pets and a few other flea infestation home remedies and this will help you get rid of a flea problem quickly.

NOTE: I have had some people tell me that you can use tea light candles instead of battery operated LED ones. While this is true, I don’t recommend it, as even though it works, it can be a potential fire hazard. You can feel free to try whatever you want though, just know that I don’t suggest you do it, especially if you have pets.Deb Kochhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13354864459661683674noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1724594058209899258.post-47065364270197656202018-06-20T19:49:23.035-04:002018-06-20T19:49:23.035-04:00Awwww!!!! We have 3 adult cats who are permanent residents, and we just cannot get them or the house completely flea-free.
