You remind me of just how I was, and now as an adult I can enjoy all the Star wars I want. Hopefully things will relax for your situation and you won't to wait nearly as long as I did. So stay strong. Gro...Katie- Your story sounds very similar to mine. Growing up I was always the geeky kid. I loved Star Wars, Star Trek, Phantom of the Opera, horror movies, Batman, and anime. Naturally I got picked on for liking every one of those things from first grade all the way through high school. Actually I got picked on for pretty much anything: my glasses, my freckles, my lack of height, my clothes, my voice (which they used to say sounded like a boy's)... the list goes on. (Sometimes I think they just made-up things about me to pick on that weren't actually there >_<). Being different is certainly anything, but easy. But I will say that ultimately it gets better. Being an eccentric adult isn't exactly a cake walk, but it's a lot easier than being the nerd kid in class -if only because you can tell people who are mean to you to "kiss your butt" without getting in trouble for it. :P I didn't start making friends until high school. I was still picked on, but so were my friends so we all just learned to ignore it and laugh in our perpetrator's faces. When I got to college it was even better. I met all kinds of people who liked the same things I did, and plenty more people who had a variety of other interests. No one seemed to care if I was a nerd. I was rarely picked on in college, and the people who did pick on me usually never made it to graduation. There was one girl who was mean to me in college that actually did get her diploma. I was right in front of her in line. I'll never forget how good it felt to have my name announced accompanied by "Summa Cum Laude" and "with honors" as I received my diploma, while her name was called right after mine... with no honors at all. About three years ago I pulled into a gas station in my home town, and the guy pumping gas was actually a boy I went to high school with that wouldn't have given me the time of day when we were in school. But 5 years after graduation he was rushing up to talk to me. I must admit I didn't even recognize him for the first few seconds. I felt a little bad for him, of course, but it would be a lie to say that I didn't feel a little bit of satisfaction out of it all. In any case, hang in there. As nerds we may not get to sit at the "cool kids" table, we may not get many dates, or get voted "Prom Queen," but trust me that you will get to do things that are way more important, more fun and much cooler than all of that.
May the force be with you, young lady! Keep on being geeky!
~Kat
katrruff@gmail.comKatnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1724594058209899258.post-80733390530898957302011-12-08T03:22:49.841-05:002011-12-08T03:22:49.841-05:00Hi Katie

I own all three the Star Wars Movies (Re-mastered and Original Episodes IV, V, VI) and all three Clone Wars Movies on VHS and DVD. I've been reading Star Wars novels since primary school and I used to be bullied and teased as well for reading my Star Wars books at school. I never stopped reading them though and when I went to university, I discovered there were hundreds of other people in my university and even all over the world who share my hobbies and interests. In my group of friends, the biggest Star Wars geek is me :D and the biggest Star Trek geek is a girl too. So all I can say is; the force is not strong with those bullies.

I wish I had a Star Wars water bottle! :D

May the force be with you!Brenhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00258105294549121248noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1724594058209899258.post-53932570250157907682011-08-11T02:45:04.531-04:002011-08-11T02:45:04.531-04:00I'm a girl too and I love Star Wars since I wa...I'm a girl too and I love Star Wars since I was little. I was applying for a job with a former co-worker, so I knew he was a Star Wars fan too. My "interview" was over lunch, so I placed my lightsaber (with lights AND sounds) on the table and said, "I type 90 words a minute, I have a light saber and will travel". I've had the job for almost 3 years now. :) We even named our backup hard drive Yoda ('cause it's small and knows everything) and the copier/printer/fax is Han ('cause it can do almost anything if you know what buttons to push). So keep sporting your water bottle and letting people know the things you love - chances are you'll become better friends with better people because of it!Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1724594058209899258.post-57038597719795564982010-12-17T21:43:46.330-05:002010-12-17T21:43:46.330-05:00Katie,
