Next month I'm going to be at Disney World for the first time ever (hope I'm lucky enough to be able to hang out with you and John!), and now after seeing your pictures I'm already planning my next trip to the U.S. to see Universal (though who knows when I'll be able to put those plans into action)! But even though, your Universal already has 'The Wizarding World of Harry Potter' , ours on the West Coast is set to open April 7, 2016 at Universal Hollywood. Hopefully I can get my pass by then and go, it should be funas we've been waiting soo long for this. He's a sensitive little guy with a big imagination and occasionally has bouts of anxiety. (takes after his mom. sorry about that, little dude.) He tends to be worried about trying new things, and was afraid that he'd have nightmares from reading Harry Potter. I reassured him that he didn't have to read it until he was ready, but I thought he'd handled us reading The Hobbit and 3 of the Narnia books out loud really well, and now we're reading the Alfred Hitchcock Three Investigators series out loud and he's doing great with those. I also suggested that he could just try the first book and see how he does with that, and I would read with him if he wanted. He's got several friends who have read the whole series, and next Halloween our friends are doing a huge Harry Potter theme for their house, so he's wanted to start reading the book, but his anxiety kept getting the better of him.
And then he saw me reading Epbot, saw the photos and the video of the dragon, and wanted to see more. I showed him the other pictures you've taken of the Wizarding World of Harry Potter, and we chatted some more about non-spoiler parts of the series.
This morning he came out of his room, grabbed The Sorcerer's Stone off the shelf, and read the first chapter before school. And all the way to school he couldn't stop talking about it, and said he can't wait to get home and read some more!
I know this got really long (sorry about that), but I'm just so excited that he's conquered his worry and jumped in! I know he can handle the first couple books (we'll hold off on some of the later books for a bit until I know he's ready), and it's fun to have one more thing to share with him and excite his imagination!Bethanyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14794846683551309991noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1724594058209899258.post-53574811857678657162016-01-14T20:48:41.191-05:002016-01-14T20:48:41.191-05:00Jen because of you I'm going to Universal next...Jen because of you I'm going to Universal next week! Also, I'd recommend springing for their "Express Pass". This is a pass that allows you to skip the lines on most rides and go straight to the front. I don't know if the Harry Potter rides are included or not, but if you want to do anything in addition to Harry Potter, it'll be about the only way you'll be able to do it. In some way I'd almost recommend the Potter areas, because those two CAN be done in one day - whereas Disney is just so much to take in, you'll always feel like you're missing most of it. (Because you are!)

Even if you hit Spring Break crowds, though, you'll still be able to see the Potter parts of Universal (provided you're ok skipping the rest of the park stuff). Just buy a 2-park pass, so you can take the train between the two.

That said, Disney DOES stay open a lot later most of the time, so if you'd prefer pixie dust, just make a list of "must sees" and go for it!Jenhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11888187687405622408noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1724594058209899258.post-91839182370862270142016-01-13T15:26:23.723-05:002016-01-13T15:26:23.723-05:00OK, being an LA-based family, I've been intrig...OK, being an LA-based family, I've been intrigued by most of your Disney posts, but now I've GOT to drag the fam to Orlando. The only problem now is trying to decide between Disney and Hogwarts. I am a huge Harry Potter fan, but I have had people tell me that my childhood was lacking because I never went to Disney. Since we will most likely only have one day in Orlando, my big concern is that we won't get to see all the stuff we want to in whichever park we decide on.
