StayPuft Donuts, Steampunk Movies, and Dapper Days!

I'm coming up for air from work and cosplay photos to remember there IS a world outside my office.

A world... soon to be filled with Ghostbuster Krispy Kreme donuts:

They're filled with marshmallow goo, and they just went on sale this week. WOOT!

I do love it when my two blogs collide, but my Cake Wrecks experience can assure you: they will never look this good in-store. [evil chuckle] Poor StayPuft.

Hey, just realized I'm wearing a StayPuft shirt right now! But then, I have at least half a dozen different StayPuft shirts, so... (It's a sickness. A wonderful, wonderful sickness.)

I'm mostly posting those to assure you guys I *have* seen them, since I'm being bombarded - albeit in a good way - from all social media sides. Heh.

Similarly, yes, I'm SUPER psyched about Hullaballoo, the 2D animated feature being put together by Disney animators (but not for Disney):

They've already raised nearly FOUR TIMES their goal amount, and the campaign runs through October 1st, so, YAY STEAMPUNK. (Doesn't it look gorgeous? I'd love to see this turned into a whole series!)

Speaking of Disney-related stuff, Cori S. reminded me that Dapper Day at WDW is coming up again on the 27th, so for you locals or well-timed vacationers:

I like how they call it the "Fall" Soirée, when it's still 91 degrees over here. If last year was any indication, there are going to be some sweaty fur stoles and wool suits over at DHS that day. :( We really should stick to Winter Dapper Days in Florida, don't you think?

That said, I looooove seeing all the fabulous clothes and Disney-Bounding, so I'll try to make it out for the 6PM meetup for photos, at least. (Here are my photos from last year, if you're looking for fashion inspiration!)

Also on the Epbot Facebook page, Teresa M. found me the perfect t-shirt:

 YES.

On average I think I leave the house once a week, and the only times I enjoy leaving the house are for conventions or dates with friends and/or readers. So, yep, gonna need this shirt. (Aha! Finally found it on Look Human for $20.)

And finally, 'fess up, you commenters: John Strangeway paid you all to convince me to watch Tucker & Dave Vs Evil, didn't he? DIDN'T HE? Because he's been pestering me for ages, but it took all your comments on my last post to finally get me to watch it. (That, and John wanted to. ;)

And my verdict?

Absolutely hilarious (I thought John was going to sprain something,) and screamingly gory. (Two words: wood chipper). Fortunately the gore wasn't too psychologically disturbing, if that makes sense, so I just hid behind a couch pillow and yelled my way through it. And you guys are right: Alan Tudyk is a genius. Both guys are, but some of his lines...

It also helps that you can usually tell when the bloody stuff is coming; no surprise decapitations or anything. Still: SO GORY.  o.0

John and I are already hard at work (him actually working, me "consulting") on another big geeky project, but no pics yet, for fear of the Epbot Project Jinx. Maybe soon, though?

'Til then, Happy Thursday, everyone!

UPDATE: Jamie asked over on Facebook how my cat Lily is doing with her over-grooming, and since that's a FAQ: Lily's doing grrrrr-REAT! Granted, she's still on steroids, which aren't ideal, but we're still testing new foods in the hopes we can wean her off the pills some day. For now, though, she's a playful purr-box constantly demanding hugs. So, you know, perfect.  ( <-- opinion="" unbiased="">

And since I'll take any excuse to post Lily Glamor Shots, here's one I just took on my phone:

I moved her box onto the table to keep her off my lap while I'm trying to craft. She's still really distracting, though. I mean, LOOKIT DAT FACE. (Must... snuggle...)

  1. And, only 91? Here in the southern CA desert, I wish it cool down to 91. It's been HOT here. Deadly hot.

Also, love the Tshirt!! I leave the house maybe once every 8 weeks, and the ONLY place I've been in the last 2 years is to doctor appointments.

  2. SO glad you watched Tucker & Dale vs Evil! I was going to comment on your post the other day to tell you to watch it, but I spaced it out. It is hysterical. I got a friend to watch it over the summer, and she laughed so hard we had to pause the movie a few times. Alan Tudyk is fantastic. We had an Alan Tudyk marathon of sorts, that's how I convinced her to watch. We watched A Knight's Tale (I'd never seen it), 28 Days (she'd never seen it), and Tucker & Dale vs Evil (she hadn't seen it). He was hilarious in 28 Days too.

  4. Yey! So glad you watched it. Tucker & Dale is TOOO FUNNY! haha - The Helmet!
Not gonna lie, pretty excited about Hullabaloo. It's about time something like that came about!
    That t-shirt is awesome. :)
Love all your posts, Jen! You and John just make me smile.
    Have a great day!

  5. Jen, now that you've watched Tucker & Dale vs Evil, maybe you can help me with the peach ice tea jug and the oversize gun/weapon in the John Strangeway/Tucker & Dale cosplay photo you took at DragonCon. I'm not getting the references. Maybe it's a mashup with something else I don't know about? Anyone know?

Love the introverts T-shirt, but wish it was available in black on white or white on black. Rainbow lettering = too cheery for most introverts. Heh. And also there's the problem that message T-shirts invite attention from people wanting to read them, which is certainly the opposite of what I'd want since I spend all my time away from home trying not to be noticed and avoiding eye contact so that I don't have to engage with anyone.

Fortunately, I guess, I'm the designated grocery shopper, so I'm forced to leave home at least once or twice a week to accomplish that. Does John do all your grocery shopping, or do you guys get it done together on the seldom occasions that you leave the house?

We definitely need a photo of what your Krispy Kreme donuts look like when you go get them (or when John brings them home, haha). I'm curious to see just how smeary and smooshed they are, and I want to know what StayPuft's hat is made out of. Looks almost like a gummy candy in the photos above, but that would be really weird.

Are you and John going to dress up for Dapper Day this year?

    Sorry so many questions.

Looking forward to seeing the photos of the next "big geeky project." Good luck with it!!!

    1. 1) We actually asked Strangeway about the jug, and it's not movie-related; it's just filled with some kind of alcohol, I believe. ;) And the gun/weapon I *thought* might have been the big chainsaw from the movie? Maybe? Or a portable wood chipper? Ha!

      2) I was actually going to say something similar about slogan shirts; I'm uncomfortable with people pausing to read my clothing, so I never wear them. How's that for irony?

      3) John gets major cabin fever, so he does all the shopping of any kind, and gladly. "Oh, we're out of butter? LET ME GO BUY SOME RIGHT NOW."

I still like shopping at places like Home Goods or the antique mall sometimes, though, & we make a lot of trips to the craft & hardware stores together during projects.

      4) No dapper dressing for me, at least! To be painfully honest, it's mostly because I don't like drawing attention to myself and/or having my photo taken without a mask. That's ok, though; I'd much rather be the one TAKING the photos, anyway!

    2. Is Lily the prettiest cat ever? Yes. I think this to be correct. (Don't tell my cat!).

    3. I love the introverts shirts too, but I wish the company realized that a large portion of the country wears a size larger than XL. They're losing a lot of customers by limiting their sizes.

    4. Thought - if you aren't comfy with folks reading a logo shirt, could you serge the neckline and wear it backwards?

  6. ...and if you hadn't heard yet, Tucker and Dale vs. Evil 2 is in the works :)

  7. Since when has Krispy Kreme done such cute donuts? I'm going to try to go for Talk like a Pirate day tomorrow if the line isn't insane and definitely check out the Ghostbuster donuts. I just wish the donuts weren't so super sweet.

  8. I LOVE Tucker & Dale vs Evil...I laughed when I realized Tyler Labine's character in Reaper (which was where we first noticed him as an actor) was Sock, and Alan Tudyk's character in Firefly/Serenity was of course Wash. har har ha...ahem OK, I guess it's not THAT funny.

  9. Um...I think you mean Lily is purr-fect...maybe not? Missed opportunity? Anywhozille also looking forward to Hullabaloo, the look sort of reminds me of Atlantis, which is where I got my first taste of the steampunk idea, and also one of my very favorite Disney films! Sometime I hope you will be able to make it up to the PNW for a visit, no oppressive heat here!

  10. Lily is gorgeous, those eyes! My daughter and I will look for you at Dapper Day!

  11. I credit/blame you that the first thing I thought when I saw the Ghostbuster donuts was not how awesome they were but "There's no way they will look like that in the stores. They are going to end up on Cakewrecks." Also, I am so glad you saw Tucker and Dale vs Evil. I ADORE all things Alan Tudyk and after seeing Reaper I started following Tyler Labine. So when I heard about a movie with both of them... we that was a no-brainer gore or no. If you haven't seen Reaper you should, even though like Firefly it was cut tragically short. While I admit the show had it's issues I loved it. Between Ray Wise and Tyler Labine(Sock was awesome!) it was a really fun show.

  12. I'm glad Lily's doing so well, and wow, she is just beautiful!

  13. Ahh!!! It's so awesome to see people spreading the word about Hullabaloo! I inadvertently stumbled upon his old blog when planning my Halloween haunt and back then it was just his "Steampunk project." Then, almost the next week, I heard about the campaign! I'm cosplay ing Veronica Daring at my local con in November!

  14. OMG, Lily is SO PRETTY! Glad she's doing better. :)

  15. So I saw your Strangeway and friend at DC as Dale and Tucker, and got a kick out of the costume while having no idea what it was from....but after your post today, I decided to watch Tucker & Dale vs. Evil today during my kids' naptime. So worth it! I was a little afraid that I was going to wake them up from laughing too loudly, and I'll confess that I did not get my daughter up right when she woke up because I was ten minutes from the end of the movie. :-P

Have you seen "Dollhouse", Joss Whedon's other sci-fi show? Alan Tudyk is AMAZING in it!

  16. So happy that Lily is doing so much better!! And I have to ask where you got the charm on her collar - it's so cute!!

  17. That face is an awful, awful distraction. How do you even internet with that bebe just needing all the love in the world? I could't do it.

  18. Lily has to be the most beautiful cat ever. Those eyes! *swoons* It's as if she can read my soul. Purrrfect!

And now I must watch that movie. I'm a sucker for Alan Tudyk. Thank you.

  19. Wooow Hullabaloo looks amazing! Although I couldn't help being distracted by the big white bust he had in the background. I kept trying to work out what it was ... it just looked like a giant white, framed penis in the background. xD

Gosh I want that t-shirt. Good to hear about Lily! She's such a pretty baby.

    1. The bust is one of the faces from haunted mansion that stare at you no matter where you walk. It does look a little questionable, but it's very Disney.

  20. Those EYES!!! At least if you're staying home, you have kitties to snuggle. :)

Hmmm, I think I need to rethink my life...I need to be home more myself...

Anyhoo...Dapper Days would probably work much better in February. :)

  21. I am not a cat person myself, but I got to say, Lilly looks gorgeous in that picture. The blue of her eyes and her blue color really pop.

  22. It just dawned on me my comment was incomplete...it should say I need to be home with MY CATS more myself. :)

  23. So glad Lily is doing better! Tucker and Dale is comedy gold and Ghostbuster donuts for the win!

  24. Oh my goodness... I absolutely need that shirt and so does my kidlet. Except it would attract too much attention. Maybe the pillow. I wouldn't attract too much attention if I was hugging that pillow while I was out... would I?

And Lily is completely, utterly gorgeous!

Jeremy's currently wearing a Super Mario StayPuft shirt.

  26. Random unsolicited cat advice: mine over groomed for years. I finally found the culprit: the treats we gave him daily. They were the greenies ones. We switched to a no grain one and it abruptly stopped (his food was already no grain) . Just something to check.

  27. Tucker and Dale RULE! So glad to hear you watched it. Now you need to see Black Sheep (no, not that one, the other one). VERY low budget, zombie sheep (because what else are you gonna use for extras in New Zealand?). Sadly, it's Alan-Tudyk-less, but it's very funny all the same.

Alan Tudyk is one of our greatest unsung geniuses. He can play any part, from serious to screamingly funny, but sadly doesn't get much recognition. Maybe because he makes it look too easy?

  28. So glad Lily's better - she's looking great, especially with her little collar (:

  29. I really love the marvel character roundup and the tardis believe! I think those are older. ..maybe. I love so much!

  30. Lily really is a beautiful girl; I hope she's calmed her mad grooming problems. I love Justin Gerard's work! Have you seen a blog called Muddy Colors? It's run by several illustrators, he's one, and he did a whole post about that cute little blue dragon. He'd finished the big rampaging blue guy and it just... wasn't cutting it. I mean, yeah, he's big and mean and destructive and wow and... kinda boring. Then he thought of the little blue guy, reading and fantasizing, and THAT made the whole painting. Also, Ursula Vernon, who just posted an illustration she did for Scholastic Publishing - "My Favorite Teacher" http://ursulav.livejournal.com/1596142.html Scholastic owns the copyright for this, alas, so no prints will be forthcoming, but it's still a delightful illustration.

  31. Not sure what you've tried for the food, but since that's my specialty, I hope you wouldn't mind a couple of suggestions. Really, a good food is not exactly worthless even if it doesn't help her with the grooming. It can at least help her skin a bit, making it easier to heal up.

I'd suggest something with as few ingredients as possible, and no chicken. Chicken, wheat, and corn are common intolerances (and in the latter two cases, totally unnecessary for obligate carnivores like cats anyway). Orijen is usually my top pick for kibble, which you can find in high-quality places around the world. I would try the 6 Fish, as it is 80% fish and a few fruits and vegetables.

There's also raw food. Stella & Chewy's (USA) makes freeze-dried/frozen that I like a lot (most importantly, that my cat likes). They have formulas with novel protein sources, which are good if the common meats seem to be a problem. Their cat formulas are 98% meat.

Wet food is a really good thing in general, too. There are good options with very little extraneous junk in them, for sensitivities. Rabbit formulas are very very popular for sensitive cats.

Also important: Lily is so cute! She is such a good-lookin' gal.

  32. I would get NOTHING done if I had that cutie pie looking at me with those big blue eyes! Nothin' I tell ya'...

  33. Hi Jen! I wanted to let you know that I actually ordered one of the Introvert t-shirts from Look Human and had a terrible experience with them. The company itself I had major problems with, but the shirt itself is very poor quality. I ordered the heavyweight version and the shirt is so thin that it is completely see-through. Additionally, the colors are nowhere near as bright as the picture - the shirt I received is very faded and dull looking. Absolutely not worth the price they are asking! Just an FYI!
