MegaCon 2014, Pt 5 - Last One!

Ok, it's finally time for my last installment of MegaCon costumes. Is this a new record? Ha! I like stretching them out like this, though; less stress on me, and I think you guys can appreciate the costumes more in smaller bursts. Yes? Maybe?

Well, either way, ONWARD!

Daenerys brought one of her dragons along. Creepy little fella, idn't he?

Awesome Big Sister from BioShock 2:

She even has the pink bows on her Little Sister basket!

(I am suddenly seized with the need to see a Big Sister carrying a Little Sister in the basket. Somebody, please, make this happen.)

These next few photos aren't mine, but I had to share this adorable little girl Doctor fighting off Roxy the Rancor:
Posted by Joey Myers here on Instagram.

And then there were two costumes at MegaCon I was mildly heartbroken to miss: first, Captain EO:

How cool would it have been to get a pic of the good Captain here with John's Dreamfinder? Two vintage, cancelled Epcot attractions, together again! *sigh* Well, maybe she'll be back next year. (Before I'm corrected: yes, Captain EO is back at Epcot right now. Details, details... ;)

And finally, oh how I WISH I'd seen this motorized Patriot in person:

via Orlando Weekly

Check out the exposed leg pipes! And he's even got the two crossed flag poles on his back. Sweet.

Ok, back to my own pics:

When I asked this Lady Death for a photo she had her cape closed in front, and so then proceeded to throw it open to pose like this:
John was visibly startled, which was adorable. :D

This next photo is horribly backlit, but these elves were amazing:

The guy had to show us his legs to prove he wasn't on stilts; I think he was nearly 7 feet tall!

More bad lighting, but here's a lovely gender-swapped Sherlock & Watson:

Plus Zelda's Majora's Mask.

(The red carpet & high lighting in the vendor hall does terrible things to photos. Terrible things, precious.)

This Harley had a great hammer & shoes:

And Tink there has the classic pout down pat. Super cute.

Sonic, squared:

This photo is begging for a caption. BEGGING.

Oh! Remember I promised Disney princesses wearing their princes' clothes?

TA-DAAA! Aren't they great? Probably inspired by this artist's drawings.

Steampunk super heroes and the new record-holder for Most Ridiculously Oversized Sword:

Dude. THAT is a Ridiculously Oversized Sword.

You guys will have to help me out on this one:

I may not know the character, but that is a super impressive costume - right down to the metallic face paint and wigwork.

[Update: Looks like he might be the Monkey King from The Forbidden Kingdom, a martial arts film. Thanks, Nisay!]

How to unintentionally make your cosplay photo look like an ad for Aquafina:
 Oops.

:D

I don't know what's happening here, but to be fair, you never really know with a gang of Deadpools:

This Roger Rabbit was the bomb; not only was he perfectly dressed, he NAILED that pose:

And this was at the end of the day, too! Love seeing enthusiasm last that long.

Here's another character you don't see much these days: Betty Boop!
I LOVE the black-and-white color scheme; she even wore gray contacts!

And finally, a gorgeous gender-swapped Wolverine:

Digging the wild, color-dipped hair; so perfect for the character.

K, this concluded my MegaCon 2014 coverage! Hope you guys had as much fun as I did!

  1. For the picture you weren't sure of would that be the Monkey King off of 'The Forbidden Kingdom'? It's the only thing that comes to mind.

Great pics btw. I always enjoy these posts. They make me feel like I am there without actually being there. :) It seems like a lot of fun, hope I can experience it someday.

  2. Thranduil is fantastic! Was he really that tall? Wow...I have a strange urge to cosplay as him, as his character seems to lend itself so well to gender-bending. And the Betty Boop is unique, spot-on and gorgeous! A little creepy, but gorgeous! ;) And John is so cute to be startled by the sexy lady un-caping herself. LOL! You have a sweet husband, Jen.

  3. Those Elves are AMAZING!! Wow. Just wow. And I am in the camp of the more posts of con pics, the better. :D I'm going to my first con in two weeks and am so excited! I've been reading all your old posts of "con survival tips" and such and am feeling better prepared than I was a couple weeks ago, especially as I am going by myself. And I'm going in costume one day, as Kaylee from Firefly. I see all your posts about cons and such and as a result have wanted to go to one for years, so I was super-excited to find one fairly close by. Can't wait to join the ranks of con-goers!!

  4. My husband thinks the guy with the big sword is Sanosuke Sagara from Rurouni Kenshin.

    1. I agree. That's who I thought of as well.

    2. It most definitely is. His sword is called a zanbatou

    3. of course he is.

  5. Is the person dressed as Captain EO wearing blackface?

    1. I thought the same thing! Soooooo close to perfect, it's reminding me to always be *thoughtful* with costumes.

    2. This! It would have been a great costume without the blackface. :(

  6. I have loved seeing all these different costumes from MegaCon. As I don't live anywhere convenient for a con, the odds of my going to one anytime soon is slim, so I appreciate getting to live vicariously through your photos :) I also really enjoy your commentary on the costumes. It makes it more fun than just finding pictures of random ones online. So next time you go to one, please use as many posts as necessary to show all the beautiful costumes!

  7. I have to say, the Disney princesses dressed as the princes were fantastic. Also, I particularly loved the Black Widow/Captain America picture because I'm dressing up as Black Widow for C2E2 in Chicago this weekend. It's my first real cosplay and I am soooo excited!

  8. I'd just like to mention that the oversized sword cosplay is of Sanosuke from the manga Rurouni Kenshin and that it's based on a real weapon that size called a zanbato! Okay, otaku moment over. :P

  9. And the massive sword, that style is generally called zambatos :) really cool

  10. Ok, I fan girl squee'd a bit at the group of Deadpools. <3

  11. Loving all the Rurouni Kenshin readers!! Now I must go re-read it!! :D

  12. I love the Thranduil/s and the Sherlock and John. You don't often see things from Sherlock. Which is why I went as Molly. ;-)
Small typo at the very beginning. *Isn't, you've got Idn't.

    1. I think that "typo" was actually intentional.

    2. Ha, yeah, that was my failed attempt at channeling Ursula when she says, "Life's full of tough decisions, IDN'T it?" :D

  13. Is Thranduil the same guy who won an award at Dragon Con last year? That fellow was amazing... And hysterical.

  14. I wish Captain Eo had not chosen to do blackface for her costume. The costume and wig get the character across just fine without it.

    1. I thought the same thing. At first, I was like, does she have a really bad tan? Then I saw her hands were a different color. Was not necessary and got the point across fine. Michael Jackson was so racially ambiguous later in life, and clearly had issues with who he was. However, the practice of blackface amongst white people has such a negative and demeaning history, that it really isn't a wise thing to do.

  15. I LOVE the elven costumes. Gorgeous!

  16. I love that someone did Captain EO. One of my all-time favorite things at Disney. And that Betty Boop looks fantastic - so clever!

  17. That Thranduil was really nice. Apparently he's rather shy and was overwhelmed by all the attention he got. I told him, with his height and that incredible costume, there was no way he wasn't going to get mobbed.

  18. I definitely appreciated the shorter posts. Thank you for all the pictures!

  19. That Zanbatou (the crazy large buster sword) is from Rurouni Kenshin. The character is Sagara Sanosuke. I was there for Friday and Saturday, I somehow totally missed you. T-T Next time!

  20. That one Sonic looks like Sonic cosplaying as MegaMan making him even better!

  21. It's fun that you mentioned how tall the male elf is... My husband and I happened to be behind him when he was walking up the stairs to the upper-level. I was amazed how easy he was able to go up the stairs (thinking he was on stilts), till I noticed his sneakers! Very tall man! =)

  22. These have been such great pictures. I actually went to my first comic Con. It was so much fun! I definitely will be going to the next one.
