Nerdfighter Wedding

I featured blushing bride Amorae last February because I just adored her purple and teal Chucks and petticoat:

Well, it turns out, she also had one of the most nerdtastic weddings I've ever seen. For their one year anniversary last week, Amorae made a video showcasing the ceremony and all the fun geeky touches, like concocting a love potion at the alter, video game and LEGO decorations, and vows that include references to zombies and dementors. So. FUN.

Check it out:

{sigh} Don't you just love watching geeks marry?

Congrats on your anniversary, Amorae and Jonny, and here's to many, many more.

And thanks to Sadie for the link!

PS: Also, check out these photos of Harry Potter themed weddings! So much pretty!

  6. I saw this earlier, it was awesome. I've never seen you reference nerdfighteria before Jen, am I blind and you're actually a nerdfighter, or was this a one off thing?

  7. So unbelievably adorable, and awesome! Makes me ponder about my own upcoming wedding...

  8. @ May - A one-off thing, I'm afraid. I used the title from the wedding video, not realizing there is a whole realm of nerdfightery out there. Then I just hoped it wasn't some weird fetish thing. ;) (From what I can tell it seems safely awesome, though. Phew!)

  9. We did Chuck Taylors for our wedding, too, six long years agao. :) There's just something wonderful about seeing everyone walk down the aisle in a pair of Chucks (even our parents did it!).

  10. Teal and purple peacocks standing out from the herd of white sheep. Love it! The photogs must not have had any problem from differentiating that wedding album from the masses.

  21. I can't quite top that, but at my wedding two months ago...

    1. My ring was designed by Architect Frank Gehry.
    2. His ring was a white-gold replica of The One Ring.
    3. We wore 'e' and 'Ï€' shirts and held copies of "The Silmarillion" and "The Hitchhiker's Guide" in our engagement photos, which we put on our invitations.
    4. The wedding party walked down the aisle to "Hedwig's Theme."
    5. Our cake was based off an xkdc comic ("My Usual Approach.")
    6. Our cake toppers were clothespin versions of us dressed in the team uniforms we wore to compete in engineering competitions together in high school (which was a LONG time ago, it's been an interesting journey.)
    7. We took the bulk of our wedding portraits in front of the Computer Engineering building at UF, where we took most of his classes. (I was EE at a different university.)

We're already researching the Think Geek kid's section for our upcoming baby. Poor kid. :-)

  38. So awesome! I remember the photos from when you posted them... It was so neat to see the wedding, too! Thanks for sharing!

And as far as nerdy weddings go: I read my vows in a language that I created--completely constructed grammar and all. (English didn't quite say what I wanted to convey--I did read a translation for the benefit of the onlookers, though.) Does that count? :)

  39. I couldn't stop grinning the whole time I was watching that. I love when people buck tradition and decide to make their wedding truly their own. Hopefully a wedding will be in my not-too-distant future and I can't wait to make it my own--my goal is to make it fun and relaxed for *everyone* involved. :)

  40. Awesome!! My hubby and I had Final Fantasy music in our selection, and my very prim and proper grandmother actually complimented the beautiful piano piece that she didn't know.

    ReplyDelete
  41. If it wouldn't seem so stalkerish, I'd totally look them up, being part of a fellow Dallas nerd couple. That wedding was definitely full of awesome!

    ReplyDelete
  42. So in love with that dress. SOOOOOOOOOOOO in love.

    ReplyDelete
  43. I think she needs to go into the "Geek Wedding Planning" business! That was wonderful, and I want to look at all the pictures/video they have to absorb the awesome!

Truly a testament to geek love.

  44. ok, so there is an awesome video on youtube, a spin off of harry potter and "firework".

  45. That was...well, awesome. :-) I kept pausing and rewinding the video to soak up as much detail as possible. I echo Bryna (and Up's Dug)--I don't know them but I love them! I also agree with Kati M about the best line of the entire video.

The link that Fernanda posted to the YouTube "blockbuster wedding invitation" was great, too. Now *I* want a nerd wedding.

  46. Jen! You are already a Nerdfighter at heart. They love a lot of the stuff that you do (books, humor, everything!). Remember Ransom Riggs, the author who wrote Miss Peregrines's Home for Peculiar Children (loved your review-btw)? Ransom is a very good friend of John Green(another fabulous Y/A Fiction author). John Green, and his equally nerdy brother Hank, are responsible for creating a wonderful forum for people who call themselves Nerdfighters. Nerdfighters ARE nerds--NOT people who fight nerds--who fight to decrease 'world suck' and they are made entirely of awesome. Examples: Nerdfighters participate in this thing called the Project for Awesome each year. It's all about charity and community. You know the Cake wrecks well in Mai Minshik? That well has a lot of Nerdfighter cousins in similar places where clean water is a precious commodity. After the earthquake in Haiti, Nerdfighteria teamed with the Harry Potter Alliance to raise money to charter five planes to Haiti full of medical supplies. That's just the tip of the iceburg. These are GOOD people--have no fear of fetishy stuff. Check them out--I promise you'll be pleased and will wonder why you did not know about them before. http://www.youtube.com/user/vlogbrothers#p/u/0/FyQi79aYfxU
DFTBA! (Nerdfighter creed--Don't Forget To Be Awesome)

    Very sweet wedding!
