This Is Why I Love Conventions

Ok, well, one of the reasons why.

Ladies, gentlemen, and fellow geeks, I give you...

BRENT SPINER IMPERSONATING PATRICK STEWART!!

(spotted via Wimp)

Yes, he's weird on Twitter, but Spiner is gold - GOLD, I say - in person. We got to see him live with Levar Burton at MegaCon last year, and he was both bitingly hilarious and surprisingly humble by turns. I like him. And this video (shot at this year's Emerald City Comic Con) makes me like him more.

Now if you'll excuse me, I'm off to X out another day on my countdown to Dragon*Con. :D

  1. You *DO* know he's going to be on "The Guild" sometime this season, right?

  2. I get the impression that he treats Twitter as a form of performance art. He's playing the character of Brent Spiner, as seen on Twitter. Either that or he just doesn't give a f***.

  3. That? Was awesome. And I'm not even a Trekkie. But, when you grow up with this stuff playing in the background...it gains major nostalgic geek points! Awesome video. (And even cooler, because it happened in my neck of the woods. *grin*)

  4. Wow! That was great! So funny... I'm hoping to go to a few cons after I move and I so so wish they'll be as epic as that... Geekdom for the win!

  5. I found this on Twitter yesterday.... SPOT ON and absolutely hilarious... *sigh* if only I lived somewhere I could actually GO to a convention.....

  6. That is *awesome.* I could only follow Brent on Twitter for a few days before I was Dazed and Confused, but this is brilliant.

  7. That is spot on! He rocks! And I kinda think that when you are an actor and are in the spotlight so much, you are going to be a bit weird on Twitter and other places...it just kinda comes with the territory. My cousin is an agent in Hollywood, and the stories I hear are just WEIRD. But the majority of the actors he works with are wonderful people and very kind and caring. So that seems to make up for it. :)

  10. Man, I was there in that panel, and it was awesome! After the panel, my dad and I went and chatted with him and Johnathan Frakes, talking about how good they were in the panel, and I made a comment about how Patrick Stewart was great in it too :P

  17. I've seen several comments here like LunamothMama's... I encourage you to search Google for conventions in your area -- you may be pleasantly surprised.

You may not find a large, professionally run convention (like DragonCon or ComicCon), but you'll probably find a smaller, fan run convention. Fan run cons don't usually feature the Big Name Stars, but they are usually significantly cheaper to attend and afford an opportunity to meet other fans, talk to authors and artists and even the occasional Star.

  18. He was here in Calgary at Comic Expo last year - he was SO funny. My fave role of his is actualy the neurotic cruise director on Out To Sea with Lemmon and Matthau - hysterically creepy!

  20. I follow him on Twitter and he is very entertaining. I especially enjoyed his trek (no pun intended) from Williams Sonoma into the desert & the drug induced ramblings he had there... I suspect he may have been high on cold medicine.
    ;-)

To think that I read a long time ago that he didn't like going to conventions and it sounded like he was very shy or a private person. I'm glad he's gotten over that.

  21. Oh, but ...but...but Joe Flanigan had to cancel for DragonCon. Something about making a movie in Europe with Jean Claude VanDamme. Yeah, like we believe that. :(

  22. Am I the only one that remembers him on "Night Court"? Am I the only one that remembers "Night Court"?!

  23. I'm envious of your DragonCon countdown. My brother hasn't missed a year since he moved to GA. The pictures, the stories, the whole experience sounds exciting.

  24. Ooh add me to the list of women with a huge crush on Brent Spiner. If I had my pick of any of the Trek men it would be him <3

Now if you'll excuse me I have to go remind myself that I'm not a squealing teenage fangirl (anymore). *SIGH*

  25. At the Trek con in Vegas he was trolling Stewart at the start of The Captains panel. He played the part of a major fanboy, and was extremely convincing. He was very funny and very nice. He was throwing around my friend's tribble and making jokes and was just charming. :)

  26. My crush on Brent Spiner began with an episode of Night Court. The man is HILARIOUS.

  27. I was at that panel and it was Amazing Sauce!!! Both Jonathan Frakes and Brent Spinner were funny and had a good sense of humor while still being thoughtful...even when the little girl asked a question about Data's cat on the show.

  28. I was just coming to post that Brent and his character on Night Court were so funny! I'm giggling just thinking about that character and voice.

  29. Un.Be. LIEVable! That was so cool!

  30. God, that's awesome.

Yeah, I couldn't follow him for too long on Twitter. I know it's art for him, and I totally respect and admire it...but I leave it for others to follow. ;)
