Count Down to Dragon*Con!

Yikes! Can you believe Dragon*Con is NEXT WEEKEND?!?

[flailing] AAAUUUGGHHH!!!

I'm calm.

I'm collected.

I am a leaf...on the wind.

Aaaand....breathe....

That's better. Now I can get back to panicking. (So. Much. To do!)

Now then, for you lucky few who will be joining us lucky masses pilgriming to Atlanta, be sure to watch my Twitter feed. Yep, we'll be playing "Find Jen And Win A Prize!" again this year, mostly because it's fun and because I haven't bothered to think of a snazzier name for it.

We'll also have a much wider variety of prizes this year, including: (drum roll, please)

- both Epbot and Cake Wrecks pins (CW pins will include "I want Sprinkles" and the always-popular "No Sexual Harassment" design)

- Carrot Jockey Necklaces - HEYO!

- PLUS, some brand new, not even in stores yet (unless you count the online ones) Cake Wrecks 2011 mini calendars!

- I'll probably also bring some custom bookplates, in case any of you'd like a personalized autograph.

To win a necklace or calendar you may need a word or phrase of the day, which I'll be divulging on Twitter. The rest, however, will be available to anyone who asks for them - until we run out.

And just to make things a little easier for you seekers, here are a few tips:

- I am NOT a morning person. Don't bother looking for me before noon. (Although I'll make an exception for Saturday's parade.)

- We'll be there all four days.

- We probably won't be in costume at any time. So just look for a shorty in pigtails. And John. And my parents, who you don't know, but I hear my mom will be wearing elf ears. ("You bought what?") So. Um. There's that.

- I'll be spending a disproportionately large amount of time gawking in Artist's Alley. And by proxy, so will John. :)

- We'll probably also be at some/all of the Stargate: Atlantis cast panels. (The only autograph I'm after? David Hewlett's. Awww yeeeah.)

So, keep an eye out for us, and I hope to see some of you there!

UPDATE: David Hewlett has just canceled for Dragon*Con. Please pass the tissues. [sniffle]

  4. I may cry from jealousy. Scrap that. I AM crying from jealousy. Sometimes I hate being Aussie. There are no decent cons here that the cool actors come to. Atlantis cast? *cries* David Hewlett? *weeps*. If someone says Paul McGillion is there I may have to go back to bed and not come out for a while.

Meanwhile, have the best time! And please please please, can you do something awesome for your 'fans' that live in pokey annoying places overseas? And my fans, I mean me! :-) Will cheer us/me up immensely!

  5. Hahaha...I just found Stargate: Atlantis on Netflix. I'm making my way through season one now. Every time I put one on, I think "holy crow...I am a nerd." At least I'm in good company!

  6. I love Stargate Atlantis! And McKay is one of my favoritest characters!

  7. Aww yeah! Don't get scared at the water elemental who might run your way. I'm mostly harmless.

  8. We were in Atlanta last year the weekend of DragonCon... however, we were there to watch Alabama start their march to a national title. (It's football, Jen. That's the one with the odd-shaped brown ball)

In addition to those two events, there was also a gay pride rally going on on Spring Street--which we were not aware of until I decided to take this road back to our hotel.

Needless to say, the three very different groups of crazies made for an eventful weekend! Enjoy!

  9. Wish I was going- I would love to play. Have a great time, I look forward to your updates!

  10. ::shudders:: Try to avoid being a leaf on the wind, dear, it doesn't end well. And what would we do without our Disastrous-Cake Chronicler?

  11. OMG, OMG, OMG! You'll be at D*C?!? Me too! Now if I only knew what you looked like!!! I've got a room at the Marriott. Oh this is so (much more) exciting!

  12. @MissRon - the only autograph I got LAST year was Paul McGillion's. [grin] In fact, since there was no one around at the time, he even came out from behind the table and took pictures with me.

Since he was using his Scottish accent to call me a "wee naughty vixen" the whole time, though, all of the pics have me doubled over laughing my head off. Not flattering. But very, very funny.

Oh, and I had him sign a pic of him & David Hewlett together, so I'll be bringing that for David to sign this year. Woohoo!

  14. My 8 year-old daughter absolutely *has* to have the CW and Epbot pins. We also absolutely can't make it to Atlanta. How can I fulfill her needs?

  15. I am so excited about Dragon*Con. I will have to remember to bring the Carrot Jockey necklace I managed to snag on the last day last year.

I will also be with Team Tiaras for Tatas, so just be on the lookout for tiaras and pink.

  16. David Hewlett is teh hawtness. I admire your taste.

  17. Ahhhhhhh! I'm not ready for D*C either!

  19. I just informed my husband that I will be abandoning him next weekend to go. Ah, David. My husband doesn't get it.

I wish I could go, I've never been to a con but always want to. Should have done more before the kiddos came along.

  20. We'll be there and probably in some of the StarGate panels too. We have gone for the last 4 years. (We gotta raise the youngin' right!) We'll look for you. We're in the Marriott...like you really care! *snort* ;-)

  21. Just want to say WIN on the Firefly reference! Have fun at Dragon Con!!

  22. But I just moved from Atlanta! NooooooO! The real kicker is that I moved to Arizona after you visited here. : (

    ReplyDelete
  23. McKay for the win!

That was all I had to say.

  24. I'm a leaf on the wind...watch how I soar...
DAMN IT WHY DID I QUOTE THE WHOLE THING </3

  25. I know that it's totally random that you & John visit a city and then he has to go to the hospital or something, but if that happens, y'all can totally come stay with me -

    ReplyDelete
  26. oh, wow. David Hewlett. Love him. and his twitter account. and now that Joe Flanigan has gotten onto twitter, too, life is good. Especially when they snark at each other. As for DC, i too am jealous. David, Jason and Paul all together. And Summer Glau and Sean Maher from FireFly? sigh, so so jealous.
For those who wonder when where their favorite Stargate Actors appear at conventions, you can keep track here.
    http://stargateactorappearances.blogspot.com/

    and the twitter is
    http://twitter.com/JoeFlanigan
    http://twitter.com/dhewlett

and of course David has his dgeek webpage and David Nykl his letters from pegasus page, and ... yeah, i am a major fan.

and sometimes at the cons, they do photo ops where u can get a photo taken together with David and Joe.

  27. I am officially in love with you!!! My two fav shows referenced in one post??? Firefly and SG anything - you are my hero! Good luck getting David's autograph. I'm definitely envious:)

  28. This is gonna sound stupid, but is there Doctor Who stuff at dragon*con?

    ReplyDelete
  29. Don't quote Wash, it brings tears to my geeky little eyes!

    ReplyDelete
  30. Taking my pocket schedule out, writing in "stalk Jen", got it :)
We are going to try to head down for the parade. That is if I can drag my family out of bed in time to trek all the way down there.

  31. If you or anyone is interested, some friends and I put together a Dragon*Con Photo Scavenger Hunt for this year. It's totally just for fun -- but there's also a prize for the winner. :) http://dcphotohunt.wordpress.com/

  32. "leaf on the wind"

    Wash... :sniffle:

    enjoy the Con! I'm envious!

  33. Elisabeth, there is indeed Dr. Who stuff at Dragon*Con. Many, many panels of it. Dragon*Con is split into fan tracks, and the British media track is about half Dr. Who (and the other half Monty Python and other silliness!).

I may have an advantage - I volunteer to work on staff in the big ballrooms each year, so I see almost everyone at 'con at least once (as long as I know who I'm looking for!).

    ReplyDelete
  34. I have such a ridiculous fan-crush on David Hewlett. Good luck on that autographs =)

    ReplyDelete
  35. I might bring a picture of one of my own wrecks for you to sign, lol. If I can find you! This is going to be my first Dragoncon and I am so excited!!!! I'll be the one dressed as TF G1 Bumblebee. Look for the bright yellow felt robot. =D

    ReplyDelete
  36. Wait. You're nerds and you're not helping us get the Guinness record for Star Trek costumers?

    I think I'm gonna cry.

Come on, just put on the Spock ears and a Federation shirt and be one with the Trek. Otherwise I will have to stalk you and start singing "Kirk is climbing a mountain" in your ear. :)

    ReplyDelete
  37. Steelfeather, you'll have to fight me for him! :)

Since I can't do crowds, I guess I'm out of luck, though. I think crowds are kind of a given for autograph hunting. Unless someone knows a secret I don't?

    ReplyDelete
  38. Yay! I'll be there in Atlanta as well! I'll be on rollerskates for the parade (I hope) so cheer loud for the rollergirls! :D

    ReplyDelete
  39. I think we might attend next year. If we do Jackson Public and Doc Hammer are at the top of our must see list. I got CW/E love, but ya know, GO TEAM VENTURE!

Plus, I kind of have a harmless crush on Doc. His Vulcan like features are very attractive...I have a crush on Spock too, but that one has been full on since I was 6.

  40. Wish I was going to Dragon Con but we sprang for a weekend in Wisconsin over Halloween for House on the Rock's festival of the Gods weekend. Neil Gaiman will be there and it's a whole weekend devoted to the anniversary of his novel American Gods. We save our cash and be ready to fully geek then. Plus our anniversary weekend! The real point of my comment being that I just found your blog yesterday and have spent a good few hours pouring through all your past posts. And can I say WOW! I love this "new" blog of yours...the nerd stuff, the DIY, the pretty jewelry and cool baubles, the how-tos. I'm hitting the hardware store and craft store today. I love the Tara McPherson toys that you put in a shadowbox. We have so many tiny toys that are so hard to display and such a pain to dust around. Thanks for this blog! I love it more than Cake Wrecks.

  41. I am SO SO jealous of all of you who are going to Dragon*Con! I would love to see any of the Stargate cast, but especially David!!!!! If I could go to Atlanta, I'd take a short hop between and visit the Weyrs :)

    ReplyDelete
  42. This will be our first year at Dragon*Con. Once I found out you were going, I squealed (yes, actually squealed) with glee. If you see a unicorn running toward you, screaming hysterically, that would be me. Please don't run - the costume involves a corset and it's going to be difficult for me to move very quickly.
    Can't wait!!!

    ReplyDelete
  43. I hope I remember to check Twitter while I'm there - I'm local, so I'll be there Saturday and part of Sunday, but I'm too cheap to pony up for a hotel room (plus I didn't think about it until everything for miles around was already booked up!).

    ReplyDelete
  44. I met David Hewlett at one of the Creation Entertainment conventions, and got a giant banner of him, signed. I understand your glee.

    ReplyDelete
  45. I'll be down there for my first Dragon*Con. I'm going down with members of The Hunter's Lair in my Predator suit, and we'll be at the beginning of the parade. So, if you see a bunch of Predators chasing Aliens and USCM members, at least one of them is a fan of your blog.

    ReplyDelete
  46. Just thought you should see these AWESOME dragon claw finger adornments!!! I soooo want them!

  47. crap
David Hewlett just announced he is not coming to DragonCon

    ReplyDelete
  48. David tweeted and the Stargate track confirmed, David isn't making it AGAIN! :-((

    ReplyDelete
  49. No DHew?! I'm crushed! *sob* I finally washed the hand that touched Joe Flanigan last year and now IT WAS ALL FOR NOTHING. Alas...

    ReplyDelete
  50. Have fun for me! I wish I could go... wrong end of the country and all that.

    ReplyDelete
  51. never post, but I follow Cakewrecks and epbot regulary. AND I will be at DC!!! I'm so excited. I've pretty much bounced all week, so far!! And I will be at a couple of Stargate panels too!! Hope to see you there!!

    ReplyDelete
  52. I totally thought of you guys while watching the most recent episode of Phineas and Ferb. They go to a sci-fi convention. It was awesome. If you haven't seen that show yet it is a must. Disney rocks!!

    ReplyDelete
  53. I am sure you have already seen this (as I am usually behind the times), but I saw this and thought of you - it's a steampunk Mr. Potato Head: http://www.instructables.com/id/Steampunk-Mr-Potato-Head/

    :)
